It's more than that. And to be honest the MMO thing is being pushed and It is only marginally similar to most MMOs, though it does technically meet the acronym
The lore is interesting, even if the story seems to be a little hokey and standard. The gameplay is a blast, though they need to work on weapon balance (sound familiar). Each class has a space magicey "super" that is as the name would suggest quite powerful, but they aren't I win buttons. For example the Hunter class summons a glowing hand cannon that one-shots a ton of PvE enemies and pretty much anyone in PvP, but you have to hit something with it. The other two classes supers are AOE, but still need to be timed and aimed properly.
Each class also has a specific movement mode, grenade and melee and everything can be upgraded and modified through the leveling process. Then each class has an additional subclass which can be unlocked after lvl 15. It has a looty feel too, weapons are lvl locked and Diablo color coded for rarity. Uncommon weapons and up level up as you use them with the exotic weapons having a ton of powers and benefits when you level them up, while uncommon weapons just unlock a stat boost and one to two different scopes.
PvE has (in order of difficulty) free roam, co-op story, strikes (3 man missions), and raids (6 man missions).
I've never played PvP before, but I played it in the beta and had fun even though I was pretty horrible. Only one PvP mode was available in the beta but I think there will be 6 in the full game with i think 6 initial maps. It also seems like it is going to get a ton of pay and free post release content and continuous support until the next game comes out
It has quite a lot that I feel would appeal to some fans of ME3MP, though I do realize there is a portion of the player base that is anti FPS and kinda anti "shootiness" in general. It probably wouldn't appeal to those people. But then I hated first person perspective till I played borderlands and oblivion.
It's just awesome how much of that is completely incomprehensible to me.
I'm utterly delighted to find there's still stuff in here that I know exactly zero about.
Seriously? I don't know a great deal about games and didn't play the Destiny beta but everything in Cronshaw's post is pretty much self explanatory or obvious from the context.
I certainly appreciated the mini-review anyway, thanks Cronshaw.
