It's more than that. And to be honest the MMO thing is being pushed and It is only marginally similar to most MMOs, though it does technically meet the acronym

The lore is interesting, even if the story seems to be a little hokey and standard. The gameplay is a blast, though they need to work on weapon balance (sound familiar). Each class has a space magicey "super" that is as the name would suggest quite powerful, but they aren't I win buttons. For example the Hunter class summons a glowing hand cannon that one-shots a ton of PvE enemies and pretty much anyone in PvP, but you have to hit something with it. The other two classes supers are AOE, but still need to be timed and aimed properly.

Each class also has a specific movement mode, grenade and melee and everything can be upgraded and modified through the leveling process. Then each class has an additional subclass which can be unlocked after lvl 15. It has a looty feel too, weapons are lvl locked and Diablo color coded for rarity. Uncommon weapons and up level up as you use them with the exotic weapons having a ton of powers and benefits when you level them up, while uncommon weapons just unlock a stat boost and one to two different scopes.

PvE has (in order of difficulty) free roam, co-op story, strikes (3 man missions), and raids (6 man missions).

I've never played PvP before, but I played it in the beta and had fun even though I was pretty horrible. Only one PvP mode was available in the beta but I think there will be 6 in the full game with i think 6 initial maps. It also seems like it is going to get a ton of pay and free post release content and continuous support until the next game comes out

It has quite a lot that I feel would appeal to some fans of ME3MP, though I do realize there is a portion of the player base that is anti FPS and kinda anti "shootiness" in general. It probably wouldn't appeal to those people.  But then I hated first person perspective till I played borderlands and oblivion.

It's just awesome how much of that is completely incomprehensible to me.

I'm utterly delighted to find there's still stuff in here that I know exactly zero about.

Seriously? I don't know a great deal about games and didn't play the Destiny beta but everything in Cronshaw's post is pretty much self explanatory or obvious from the context.

I certainly appreciated the mini-review anyway, thanks Cronshaw.

Heh - I've been playing FPS games since (the original) Doom and PvP FPS games since Quake over a LAN - I still play TF2 and, technically, I've been playing Team Fortress in one guise or another for best part of 20 years on and off (since the original Quake mod which was released in '96)... I've no problem with FPS games what doesn't appeal to me is loot and a persistent world FPS; I never really *got* Diablo - hell, I even think UO went downhill when it became more about gear than character skills/setup.

I couldn't be bothered with mucking about with customising guns in Deadspace or Borderlands; and I got really bored of the whole open-world thing in Oblivion... just give me an interesting story, with some side-quests and point me on my way (e.g. I loved the original Witcher).

... but then it took me a really long time to be convinced that I'd like Mass Effect - Dragon Age in space really didn't appeal to me; but the story suckered me in and the multiplayer bit in ME3 is way more fun than it has any right to be!

I find it completely incomprehensible that you find a vast number of things completely incomprehensible. Is there anything that you can completely comprehend?

No worries

Anyone who is interested feel free to PM me (I guess you need to send me a friend request first to do that which is fine) and I can give you more info.

Don't want to clog up BioWare's forums with Destiny talk.

You can find a ton more info here: It's a link to my characters from the Beta with all their gear and stats.

It's like Halo, but with more space magic.

Mass Effect was Halo with space magic before it was cool

I miss my old VECTREX and INTELLIVISION!

Not many folls had a VECTRX back in da day, that's pretty elite.  :)

I had the Intellivision. I remember thinking how great the graphics were and that it couldn't get much better lol. I can't help but to chuckle about that now.

Personally...I loved it and I'm not a huge FPS/PVP player but it is very enjoyable. I had the same feeling playing it as I did in my early/mid ME3 career. I had the pleasure of teaming up with many of my ex-ME3 friends and we all enjoyed the teamwork it encouraged (it can be soloed as easily as ME3 but is much more enjoyable with friends). I can definitely see many ME3 players getting drawn into it in the coming months.

P.S The nerf wars on the Destiny forum for a BETA make the old BSN nerf threads look like sunshine and roses. It's quite a hilarious thing to read.

That's pretty much how it is on any forum for a game that has PvP. Granted, some of the things actually do need nerfing, but it basically comes down to "waaah this guy wrecked me so nerf his stuff"

You could hang out in the arena in TRON DD, and after a given time, it would populate with the security stick guys.

Best game for the Intellivision was D&D Treasure of Tarmin.

Seriously? It's a very different game, more comparable to Borderlands. Biggest competition to ME3MP is... Warframe. Which is not better, actually.

Myself and my buddies....back in the day played just a ton of intellivision.  Many hours of great fun and a lot of friendly competition for high scores and such.  We got ridiculously good at some of those games.

Borderlands 2 tried to kill the Mass Effect
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
Dishonored tried to kill the Mass Effect
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Halo 4 tried to kill the Mass Effect Ha,hahahahaha

No-one can destroy the Mass Effect
The Mass Effect will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the Mass Effect
We tried to win for why we do not know

Titanfall tried to destroy the Mass Effect, but the Mass Effect had its way
Grand Theft Auto then tried to dethrone the Mass Effect, but Mass Effect was in the way
Call of Duty tried to destroy the Mass Effect, but Mass Effect was much too strong
Bioshock Infinite tried to defile the Mass Effect, but Bioshock was proven wrong
