I've posted a program that I've been working to neverwintervault.org to browser/play servers and modules.  Download and screenshots are here: http://neverwinterva...r/tool/neverrun

Current Version: v0.6 (5/15/2015)

Some Features:

  • Imports and synchronizes your favorites/history list from NWN
  • Integrates with Skywing's master server list.
  • Add new categories to help organize Modules and Servers.
  • Easy switching between username (e,g for those who separate their DM / player logins or dual log).
  • Set Player/DM passwords for servers, custom loader and updaters, which are stored persistently.
  • When connecting to servers, neverrun can run a custom loader, if available.  If not, it will attempt to run NWNCX then nwmain.exe
  • Parses module and server descriptions for web URLs for easy access to server websites.  Like NWN, neverrun attempts to load full module/server descriptions.
  • Direct connects so it avoids this new annoying "Nickname in use" error.
  • Can launch modules and the toolset from the module view.  See the known issue below regarding NWNTX.
  • Integrates Webkit / Markdown, such that server information is presented as a simple webpage.  (This would, potentially, allow more expansive server descriptions.)
  • Direct Connect for connecting to servers not in the master list or in your history, optionally you can attempt to add the server to Skywing's master server listing.
  • Easy access to normal NWN: the Settings button or keyboard shortcuts can be used to launch NWN (Ctrl-P), the DM client (Ctrl-D) or the toolset (or NWNTX if you have it) (Ctrl-T)
  • Able to handle some NWN, community patch settings.

This is still in a beta stage, so if you do find a use for it then find a bug please report it on the neverwintervault.org project page, or if you have an idea of better way to do something please let me know that too.

Awesome. Let me know if you think it is refined enough and I will add it to the stickeys (here and on facebook, and gog.com) for alternatives to the server lists due to loss of gamespy support.

Thanks Lazarus, I should have a solid release ready that covers all the in game server list features by the end of the weekend.

Heya Lazarus,

I've just uploaded the lastest version.  I believe that is now solid enough and feature complete enough (only a few minor things left, all NWN server list functionality has been implemented).  I've also integrated a auto-updater, so if there are any issues, it will be easy for users to get updates.

Thanks!

Huge thanks to ShadoOow for his testing and feedback, without which this new (much better) version would probably not have happened for some time!

Would you like me to include it in the Gamespy alternative stickeys now? You didn't send me a PM, so I have to inquire here...

I have tested this with multiple servers and it runs like a champ!

With all the new options it is truly the best modern NWN1 front end currently available for players, dms, and builders alike :)

*Highly Recommended*

Updated the multiplayer info Stickeys here, and on the gog.com nwn forums to include this. The nwn facebook page apparently no longer has multiplayer info stickeyed, but I made a post there as well.

Thanks very much for this Leo. Cheers.

Maybe I'm not doing something right, but I get a Nick no recognized, try a different nick. Any clue how to set my NWN1 up for multiplayer on someone's PW?

You can use a program like neverrun to direct connect, avoiding the nick in use or you can follow one of the suggestions outlined here: http://forum.bioware...014/?p=17040189  The error is due to the complete shutdown of Gamespy services.

Awesome, thanks. Can't wait for an NWNcX update. Just glad my system isn't screwed up.

I used Neverlaunch, VERY cool. Any way to add my private server to the listing? I can't seem to use the Direct Connect feature, the Play etc buttons on that dialog are grayed out. I can ping it, just won't let me connect using that method. My installation is a copy of my directory, is it expecting the Registry entries?

You don't need to wait for any NWNCX, neverrun is -- I made it so I admit I'm biased -- better than the NWN client server list ever was.  :D

I don't know, you might be confusing this with some other program?  The play/dm buttons should never be greyed out in the direct connect dialog.  You can add servers to the master list via the direct connect by checking the Add to Master Server List checkbox and then play/dm.  It has been confirmed to work by myself and ShadoOow.

I have a screenshot but I can't seem to find a way to post it directly. Using Direct Connect, with my server IP entered I can ping my server, but the Play and DM buttons are grayed out. Here's a pic:

I can launch direct connect to other servers from the server listing. I'm running Windows 8 Enterprise if that helps any. Is there any logging I could share with you? Perhaps some ports on my servers end need to be open for the buttons to be available? Just spit-balling...

That's NeverLauncher by Pain of Dungeon Eternal.  This is a thread for neverrun which is a different program.  I'm not sure where the best place to get support for NeverLauncher is, maybe PM Pain of Eternal here or on neverwintervault.org?  neverrun would look like this: http://imgur.com/pNsoEsw

Gods, sorry about that, I was grabbing tools from the Multiplayer thread and got confused with all of the similar terms and features (like I'm wont to do). Thanks, will try NeverRun out.

No worries. :D  There is a strong temptation to prepend everything with 'never' and these are tools in the same space, so some confusion is likely.  Please do check out neverrun and let me know if there is anything you find wanting or that you feel could be improved.

Tried this out yesterday and mostly love it.

I'm having issues however with logging in as a DM. Everytime I attempt it (and yes, my password is set correctly) it give me a error saying invalid password. I can still launch NWN the old way and enter as DM, just can't DM using NeverRun.

Thanks for the feedback!  I've not experienced that, excepting situations you've already eliminated.  Could you try using the Direct Connect dialog to connect as a DM?  It might help localize the issue.  I will add a proper log file in the next release.  If you're willing I can send you an update that can further elucidate what's going on.

Edit:

If everything is set correctly you should have

[DMPasswords]
<ipaddress>%3A<port>=<password>

in your <user folder>\.neverrun\neverrun.ini

Hrm .. I'm not finding neverrun.ini in the neverrun folder.

DC did work as a DM. Still can't connect as a DM using other options though. I also reinstalled the package and still cannot find a "neverrun.ini" file in the neverrun fold (or the platform folder in that) or even in my main NWN folder.

What operating system are you using?

In windows 7+ you should find the file in something like C:\Users\kalbaern\.neverrun\neverrun.ini

Looks like you are off to a great start with this application.  Keep up the good work!  I only voted a 9 on the new vault as your application is not quite finished, but still is a great app.  Thank you for the hard work that I know you have put into this.

Windows XP

I've installed Windows XP on a VM, but I've not gotten to test it yet.  I looked up how XP does things and the file should be in something like C:\Documents and Settings\kalbaern\.neverrun\neverrun.ini.  It's possible that the leading . on the .neverrun directory causes that directory to be hidden.  I don't think it does but until I can test it that might also be why you can't find it.

Thanks, I did find it on my C drive. I have NWN and NeverRun installed on my D drive currently though.
