I DID IT~ ! Throughout my pain and struggles i made a good looking Human Noble and finished the Origin annnnd
too be honest the Human Noble origin was kind of weak , i was expecting more scenes with Howe hell i wanted to see my brother but it seems like he was just shoe horned in cause they forgotten about him untill the last second.
I'm currently doing the DLC im nearly there i'm almost done then i can play Dragon Age 2 finally
, but there is something kinda haunting me the one final Origin i have yet to finish ...Dwarf Commoner.
The Dwarf Commoner i've been told is a fan favorite the thing is just like the Human Noble i lack to make a good Commoner, I can make a Dwarf and make him look as Noble as possible but if i do that then it doesn't really fit the theme of the Origin.
Tell me if the Dwarf Commoner really something to write home about? i was told the same with the Human Noble Origin but came up with disappointment.
Almost done! but is this last one worth it?

Only you can say whether you like it or not. Dwarf Commoner does have a more personal connection to Bhelen.
Besides, the origins are only an hour or two each. Hardly an effort to play through them all.

When I make a Dwarf commoner character, I think about them being streetwise and tough on the outside, soft on the inside (I usually play a female). No frills in life, no pampered pretty hair etc...

I have played the Beginning of the Origin in the past , im just wondering if its worth finishing being treated as Castless even though i bet the real effect on being Castless only effects Ozammar alone.

The dwarf commoner origins only holds significance when you go to Orzammar and you have to deal with the Carta. If I'm not mistaken, it's the least played Origin of all. But I actually liked it a lot. The provings and the escape scenes were pretty cool.

Did you get that "Zero to Hero" feeling? , from what i've been told thats the feeling alot of people get when they play that Origin.

In a sense. There is an moment in the Origins were you feel like that, but in the scene right after you go back to zero all over again. So there is that.

OTOH, in other sessions, I used this Origin to launch several Rogues, as it seemed to fit this tale more so than the Noble. One of my faves was Bronto; my pickpocket thug. He was designed to Steal from almost everyone possible early in the game, and I particularly enjoyed lifting coin purses from all the guards before leaving for Ostagar.

So even though you liked the Origin do you think its worth playing? is it a satisfying ending for our Commoner ? , currently in terms of weak Origins the Dalish one is winning.

Playing the Origin itself? Yes, I would say it's totally worth playing it. But when it comes to the main game, It's up to you. Like I said, the dwarf commoner only have unique lines when you go to Orzammar. Everywere else, people treat you the same, apart from the occasional "Oh hello there, I never met an dwarf before".
You got me there, I also thought the dalish origin was the most boring one. But then again, my main warden was an human noble and I also thought it was rather boring. The cool things came after, like discovering about your family history in Soldiers peak, the Howe confrontation in Denerim, potentially becoming king/queen, Howe's son becoming your companion and learning to put differences aside, etc, etc.

See i wanted more for the confrontation on Howe , i wanted him to say more when he was dying but all he said was the samething "I....deserve more!" hell i wanted our brother to show up or have us find him hiding out some place not just at the end of the game. :/
See i was hoping i would get loads of replys saying it wasn't worth it , no don't play it and such...i'll think about it i'm nearly burned out on Origin's its my second time finishing it this month and im not too sure if i'll be able to do a 3rd playthrough.

I think the best Origins in my opinion are the city elf origin (as an female), the dwarf noble origin and the dwarf commoner origin. The mage origins is kind of nice too. Even if you don't play an full game, I would suggest playing these origins at least once.

Howe has many unique lines for a Cousland Warden when he is confronted in the dungeon, several distinct dialogue paths, in fact, dependent on the dialogue chosen by the player. For example
Well, look here. Bryce Cousland's little spitfire, all grown up and still playing the man. I thought Loghain made it clear that your pathetic family is gone and forgotten....Your parents died on their knees, your brother's corpse rots in Ostagar, and his brat was burned on a scrap heap along with his Antivan ****** of a wife. And what's left? A fool husk of a daughter likely to end her days under a rock in the Deep Roads. Even the Wardens are gone. You're the last of nothing. This is pointless. You've lost.
or
I made your mother kiss my feet as she died. It was the last thing your father saw. Meet my sword and try to change that!
and
There it is. Right there! That damned look in the eye that marked every Cousland success that held me back.
Yeah. He's got plenty to say to a Human Noble before he ever gets to "Maker spit on you... I deserved... more..." :-/

Same here. I always give my Cousland Bryce's eyes. I want the last thing that bastard sees is Bryce Cousland's eyes watching him bleed out on the floor.
And to respond to the OP, you get what you put into each origin. IMO the human noble was best (mainly because Fergus reminds me of my own older brother). Of course, if you raised your expectations to more family involvement, (even though no other origin has this except the dwarven ones), you will be disappointed. Half the angst of the human noble is thinking you're the last of your line, knowing you will die young, probably childless and alone. Finding Fergus at the end actually made me cry with joy. Really cry. Few moments in this game did that to me. The only one more powerful was speaking to Bryce's spirit in the Gauntlet.
As for the Dwarven commoner, it was next to the last origin I completed (I did all 6) and it swiftly moved from my least favorite to third (City elf origin clocks in #2 for me simply for the sheer badassery of the warden, getting in Duncan's grill and offing Vaughan, truly a piece of human offal). I have to say the whole 'Cinderella story' of the dwarven commoner/poor girl (I was a female) makes good was truly the best part. I loved Rica, RP'ed that she was my little commoner's big sister, trying to protect her from becoming a piece of meat like other noble hunters. Out in the world it wasn't much different from the Dwarven Noble Origin, but it does--as other posters point out--really shine in Orzammar.

Or something like that

The only encouragement that I can give you not to do the origin is that it makes the game retain some excitement (You will always wonder), meaning that you will want to play it again. That's what you wanted to hear, right?

Trying to make a Cousland that fit the descriptions given was a challenge to do. You had to get the "look in the eye" just right, the character had to be good looking (mentioned by several characters), and they had to resemble their relatives (how else are they going to recognize a Cousland?).

I'm not yet up to modding my own guys - for the Couslands I use All in the Family mod by PorkChopExpress

I also felt a lack of immersion when my Titian-haired, green-eyed, freckled Moira Cousland didn't resemble her family, at all, but rather than altering her appearance to better resemble her parents and sibling, I started with the Bioware morphs for the NPCs and gave Moira a family that bore some resemblance to her yet is still quite recognizable to anyone more familiar with vanilla!Highever. Mo's father and brother (and nephew) are freckled; she has the same eye colour and facial structure and slight overbite as her mother; Moira, Fergus, and Oren are all red haired, etc, and so on. My efforts are not accomplished, by the standards of most modders, but it does help with my immersion.

My girls were modeled on Mom's morph from the toolset. I just dropped a mop into the chargenmorph file and went with that. Since Mom and Dad are white/gray your Cousland can be any coloring. I once used a morph of Fergus to make a younger version of him for a Cousland, but Aedan didn't look aesthetic enough for me.
To get the eyes, I just used the same eye texture I placed in Bryce's morph for his pup.
Gotta love the toolset ![]()

I have the toolset - what is the best path/tutorial for making faces? Do I need to go thru all the tutorials or can I skip?
#25
Posté 08 août 2014 - 12:56
I went to the toolset wiki and just kind of learned on my own what to do. However here is a short tutorial I wrote up for a friend of mine who isn't toolset savvy and I tried to make it as easy to understand as I could. Since she was making an elf mop to use in CC, you will modify step 1 to open instead a morph file of the template you are going to use, not "New" (Such as Fergus, Mother or Father Cousland--for my male elves I used Zevran and Tamlen and females used Shianni, my dwarven females are all made off Dagna's Morph). This is for an elf mop, but the rest of the tutorial is the same for any race/gender you want, just make appropriate changes in what column and what to name your mop.
How to make a .mop file for Dragon Age README
These are notes on how to make a Character morph for use as a preset in the Character Creation window of Dragon Age. I'm going to take you through it each step by step so you will have a handy reference for future morphs. Also figured that having an actual document you can reference instead of
info typed in Skype would be of more use. That said, let's begin...
1. Open Toolset and select "File". Select "New" and in that window pick "Morph".
2. Choose a "Base" which will allow the toolset to pick race/gender for you. In this instance
because you are making Meldenya, who is an elf female, you want to select EF_UHM_BASa_0.
3. Now use the facial template to tinker with her appearance to your heart's content. You know
what you want and how to do this part.
4. Save your file. Since this is for Meldenya, I'm going to go ahead and call the morph by
this name to simplify this document. So her name becomes ef_meldenya.mrh (.mrh being the default
for all documents of this type--you do not have to type in .mrh, that's the type of file it
becomes). I am unsure if the morphs and chargen files are uppercase sensitive, so I am keeping all
letters lowercase to simplify it. You may want to do the same.
5. NOW! Here's where it gets a little bit tricky. In order to make her head available as a
character creation option, you must "Post To Local" in a specific way. Look at the same
window you used to give her hair, eyes, eye color, tattooes, assigned a shape to nose, lips,
chin (in other words is on the same window as this). Go to number 14, "Export Settings". In
order to make an .mop file, you must change the settings here to "True". This will cause her
.mor to become an .mop instead, allowing you to alter your Chargenmorph to see this file as a
character creation option. Doing this only preps your file for use, now you have to edit the
chargenmorph to put the .mop into the game. The toolset will autosave this to the toolsetexport
folder in your override, making it ready for use without removing it. But if you prefer, you can
place it in any head morphs folder you are using IN YOUR OVERRIDE FOLDER already, it doesn't matter where you want to put it.
6. Find your chargenmorph file in documents/bioware/dragon age/packages/core/override. I keep
mine in this folder outside of all other folders I have so I can find/access this easily enough for
alterations, but wherever you keep it in your override is fine as long as it's easy for you to find.
You may want to make a backup save and place it on your desktop just in case you do the next part
wrong and don't want to mess up your original chargenmorphcfg file. Now, you want to right click
the chargenmorphcfg and select "Edit" NOT "Open". It will be the second option in the window.
7. In this you will see lots of character creation stuff, like heads, hair, colors, tatts, etc.
You want the sixth column labled "<elf_female>". Under that you will see lines like:
<resource name="EF_CPS_P01.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_CPS_P02.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_CPS_P03.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_CPS_P04.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_CPS_P05.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_CPS_P06.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_CPS_P07.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_CPS_P08.mop"/>
<resource name="EF_PCC_B01.mop"/>
<resource name="ef_neria.mop"/>
These are the presets assigned to your chargen. (I can't remember if I sent you a copy of mine, so
you could use it, so it may have my own neria.mop in it, disregard if you don't, I just copy/pasted
mine so you could see how a personal .mop is applied in the chargen).
Copy/Paste this line at the bottom of the column of <elf_female> so it will read something like:
<resource name="ef_meldenya.mop"/>
Or whatever you named your .mop. You can do this with any .mop, of any racial type
as long as you insert the resource name with all punctuation in the proper racial type columns.
Then, save your file and exit.
8. Open the Character creation program for Dragon age. If all these steps were done properly,
you should have your Meldenya preset as the final slider value (all the way to the right). If
so, create and enjoy your new preset. If any steps were done wrong, the game either won't see
your new preset OR it will crash to desktop and you will have to go back and check each step to
ensure it was done correctly.
A NOTE: This is how you add new stuff, like new hairstyles, colors, make up, tattooes etc to your
chargen, just find the appropriate column for each item and copy/paste their resource file names
(usually the lines needed are provided by the mod's creator in the readme's of the mod).
