What does this have to do with mages deserving freedom or not?

You would think, but the Guardian goes nuts when you do so and attacks you, so apparently it destroyed them instead.

That seems slightly strange; how would the ancient dwarves have gotten dragon's blood when they were so deep underground?

There is no corrupted Lyrium in the deep roads. Only in bone pit.

I doubt it would affect Justice or Anders possessed by him. Or Wynne. Maybe it affects denizens who use blood magic?

Or it may affect spirits directly and not the host?

It also has an effect on denizens of the Fade. Lambert uses it and it clearly affects Cole in Asunder.

Lambert only used once and that was to break Cole's invisibility spell, which was definitely blood magic that was affecting the mind. It had no other effects on Cole.

The lyrium idol isn't? I think there's also red lyrium elsewhere in the primeval thaig.

It's growing in the rock and I think you can see it in the columns.

All the Litany does is dispel blood magic that attacks the mind.

And yet in Asunder it affects Cole quite dramatically, and he's not really using any magic at that point, he simply is existing.

I suppose in physical hosts, it would only affect blood magic and its domination, but Cole in Asunder proves it does more than just that.

Corrupted Lyrium is different than red Lyrium. "Raw Lyrium" is red and found in deep roads but "corrupted Lyrium" is only found in bone pit.

How? It does nothing else to Cole except to break his spell. That's it.

Cole's invisibility spell was blood magic that fogged the minds of anyone near him, causing them to forget.

and caused him pain. It affected him physically, and not just the spell he was using subconsciously.

Reading the passage right now. Not once does it mention the Litany causing Cole pain.

Really? Guess I just misremembered.

I hate it when I do that.

How would lyrium allow the Guardian to know everything about the PC and companion's lives?

Even blood magic based mind reading can't be done in seconds and without alerting the subject.

Meh, the Pride demon in Asunder could do it to Wynne pretty easily, I believe.

Idunna used blood magic-based mind control on at least one person without anyone noticing before it became somewhat excessive and Hawke could break free. It's entirely probable that he was scanning everyone the instant the conversation began and wasn't just looking them up as he spoke about them.

In case of Lyrium wells there is like a ton of Lyrium becoming a power source.

Do you think with equivalent amount of power it can't be done with blood magic? Demons have no problem doing it instantly.

Next time you get ambushed by Shades and Rage demons (right before you meet up with Cullen) try using the Litany on them as a mage (works with Morrigan and Wynne too). It's a mini Mana Clash.

All Idunna was doing was keeping Hawke from moving; she still needed him/her to verbally answer her questions.

I don't recall a scene where it could. I do recall the demon acusing Rhis of not revealing Lambert's plans to hide the "cure" because he wanted to earn favor with them and when he denied it, he instead suggested it was because he was lusting after Evangeline.

If anything, that shows the demon was just throwing out different acusations and seeing how Rhis reacted in order to manipulate him rather than reading his mind.

They are obviously capable of doing so or the Sloth Demon wouldn't have known to create the realms keeping the companions docile but it still had to knock them all out first.

She scowled but did not respond. Evangeline stepped forward, keeping a wary eye on the demon and her sword at the ready. “I don’t understand,” she whispered to Wynne. “How does it know your name? Why is it just sitting there?”

“Those runes form a circle of binding. The demon cannot cross them, and I suggest we stay on this side. As for how it knows my name, it’s reading my thoughts … or using Pharamond’s memories.”

The demon’s grin grew wider. “Clever mage.”

But, yes, I agree. It'd take a high class demon to read a person's mind without alerting the person in question.

The Casteless are also a tradition.

The casteless are an example of how those in power don't need magic to subjugate those below them. The dwarves of Orzammar also don't consider themselves equals, unlike the Dalish. If you ask him if he's the one in charge Zathrian responds, "I guide my fellow Dalish and they follow my word out of respect". Contrast this with the members of the Noble Caste, who are not followed out of respect, but out of necessity.

And tradition. And the fact that they have the armed forces at their disposal.
