Fereldan Refugee Shop Keeper: "The only Warden i know of is sitting on the Throne".
Though admittedly she states the same line if either the Warden or Alistair becomes King.
Which proves my point.

Dean's floated this idea by in other contexts, but the issue is that one party clearly has far more power than the other.
and he isn't using that power to get her in bed, she comes completely willingly or not at all

How dare you insinuate that an Elf would ever do anything WILLINGLY with a human?! Shemlen filth!
I'm curious, how had you planned on achieving this? It does sound quite interesting.
It's quite a lengthy strategy and one I won't go fully in, but it would have centered on weakening the banns influence in Ferelden, and in turn strengthening the Crown's power. As a Cousland and Warden-Commander, having influence over the entire northeastern border of Ferelden and Coustlands has its perks, both for military and economical reasons. With Andraste's ashes discovered and preserved, it would serve as a great method to strengthen the commercial and economic activity in Ferelden, and also potentially weaken ties with the Chantry in Orlais considering not only is Ferelden Andraste's birthplace but also resting place. It is a great mechanic in improving the influence in the land.
Centralization of the army would be vital, to maintain any stability in the realm. With the influence a Cousland has, creating an army from the soliders there would be one step into the right direction. Also, buying every single mercenary that were used in the Blight would be a vital to strip power from the banns and the long term goal would be to turn the mercenaries into a professional army stationed either in Denerim and / or Soldier's Keep. Using dwarven technology would be a step in improving the military (Dworkin the Mad's bombs is a prime example) and would increase the relationship with the dwarves (mostly surface dwarves but relationship with Bhelen could also work, giving lyrium and crafters to work while in turn giving soldiers to fight in the Deep Roads). Improving the relationship with Elves would also be vital, since their work at handling Iron Bark would have huge potential. In turn for their help they would be more accepted into society and even given lands. Improvements with the Circle Tower would also be made, considering mages as healers, enchanters, scholars, historians, etc are invaluable and not strictly in the military sense but economical as well. This would give mages the opportunity for more freedom and give them a sense of equality, but their freedom would still be restricted and regulated by Templars. However, it is a step to the right direction.
Espionage would also play a role and that is true the Dark Wolf persona. In DAO you are the Dark Wolf, yet in Awakening there is another guy impersonating as the Dark Wolf. Creating a group of Dark Wolves which would work in spying, information gathering, assassinations and more would be a way in creating an organization similar to the Antivan Crows.
So yeah, that is basically the essence of it.

So how far do you think your Warden would have gotten in this before getting voiped by the plot?
Also, given that Anora is still the regnant in this scenario, how much of this do you think she'd agree with? Stripping power from the banns seems to strike pretty hard at Fereldan traditions.

Well not far, hence why I stated it is a lot of headcanon.
As for Anora, quite easily in fact. After the Blight, a lot of the bannorn lands would have been devasted. Convincing Anora to send them as much aid as possible, would make sure they will be indebted to the Crown, while also enticing them with economical incentives and prestige. While that is done--distracting the nobles--one major aspect in striping the power from the banns would be to improve working relations with merchants, guilds and freeholders (which the banns rely on) while simultaneously setting up laws to improve their lot and encourage them to work more. This way, with the Crown embracing them leads to a weakened nobility, which is exactly what Anora does in the epilogue slides of DAO. I think I recall Anora having plans to create a university, which would be a perfect method to train potential bureaucrats out of the common people.
I have lost quite some interest in the Cousland/Anora thing as well. I'm still curious how its gonna turn out in DA:i but there is a big chance I might just make Anora sole Queen - since I prefer Alistair as a wandering drunk - and let my Cousland warden have fun with Leliana.
Yeah I just marry her and Alistair. Least that way I can see both of them and they seem to balance well.
And yes Cousland running off with Leliana ![]()
Yeah, I've yet to put a Cousland on the throne, but I certainly don't rant and rave about how 'I don't play it, so I don't care.' And in fact, just because I don't play it doesn't mean I don't care - my stance has always been that just because it's not how I play doesn't mean it shouldn't be represented (and vice versa, that just because it's how I play doesn't mean that's the only way to do it). There are going to be people who have games where their male Cousland married Anora, even if they're in the minority. They should get their decisions and choices in gameplay respected.
Agreed. If the CE was bann I'd like to hear about that too (I'd prefer to hear about CE as Teyrn though. That should've made some waves.)
Seriously this thread just made me wanna make a cousland queen. :3
Hm...maybe I'll make it that psycho blood knight warden of mine Alistair hates.
huh I just realized something....
Highever is in the North of Ferelden, the Warden Prince/King Consort is from there...
that makes the him THE KING IN THE NORTH
a grim fate is in store for you then my friend
I don't think a warden king is overlooked seeing how it fits in well with the most default option of a human male player and probably a popular outcome, but it's something I've personally never done myself.

Telling Alistair to take a hike, doing it right.
Last playthrough I let Anora rule on her own, I did one male noble playthrough in the past, didn't take the crown though, got involved with Morrigan instead. The human noble origin was okay, not my favourite but not bad either.
The damning issue for the PC is being unable to call her out on it.
Call her out on what? The first thing she tells Cousland, the fifth most important person in Ferelden, is that his/her mabari companion, which also happens to be Ferelden's most prized breed as well as the symbol of the country, should be put down.
She obviously speaks in that manner to everyone.

Beraht is obviously a jerk to everyone too, but you do get to call him out on his being so to your sister.

Berath is a crime lord, Nan is a cranky cook.

Or being able to join in, amirite?
"Yeah, step aside and get to work, knife ears!"

One of them being less likely to have you killed on a whim?
My Cousland king is may favorite playthrough. I figure when he went missing, Anora was happy to be rid of him. Probably held a funeral the next day and tried to make everyone forget he was ever married to her as quickly as possible.

Which I figure is easier said than done. People were still talking about Maric years after he vanished. Plus, Awakening implies that Anora actually warmed up to King Cousland, so it's possible that their relationship became an amiable one. Maybe they actually did kind of fall for each other in a gradual way.

And the other works for your family.
Considering how many Cousland fans troll the elven threads and make thinly veiled racist comments (including one poster who said elves were the 'n word' of Thedas), I wouldn't blame Faerunner for thinking that the Human Noble Origin isn't the best thing since sliced bread.
Nor do I it was just Faerunner's flaming wall of text that threw me for a loop as for me current semi canon Cousland I'm wondering about the Anora marriage thing myself I know that Al is going to lose out for sure though.

It seems as though the HN consort has far more power that extends beyond their title. Owning a chunk of the country, a Grey Warden army, and saving the Warden stronghold in awakening combined with people viewing him as King anyway. Makes me think that if he wanted to he could use Anora as a figurehead or out right take the throne from her.
