When people ask for realism, I think they're mostly asking for coherence, or even just internal consistency.Seriously, you're acting like an RPG protagonist doesn't already render the very concept of military tactics and militaries irrelevant by doing things at level 3 no real world soldier could ever, ever do.
And any RPG that doesn't offer those things has a poorly designed ruleset.

Maria, could you add this when you get the time:
Will mages be able to use other magical weapons besides the staff?
Will hand blasts as an AA for mages return?
Will a non-champion spec'd warrior still have tank utility?
Thanks Maria!

Spot on. I never asked for "realism" either. The fellow just put words in my mouth.

At 1:32 in the Combat Video, it looks like the PC is wielding daggers, but they have mage abilities assigned to the face buttons.

How come people in DA:I is strong enough to smash castle gates with 2 jabs of their shield? Does this mean castles are now pointless in Thedas?
This is easily fixed: Just start building castles from the same sort of wood as chests, since those seem indestructible. (Just beware of rogues).

I believe that the mage PC is the selected character hence the mage abilities. The character wielding daggers is Sera, who is apparently being given tactical orders and is not actually selected

... What's wierder is that the PC looks like a Dwarven inquisitor... Which makes the mage abilities more confusing...

The problem with this thought, is that when play is resumed, and the potion is taken, the only character that has health restored is the Inquisitor... So it can't really be Sera that is being centered on. Although, you could be right in that It could be that the Inquisitor isn't actually the "selected" character and being issued tactical orders, with Vivienne(the only mage in the party) being the one the player is actually controlling.

You can see the selection rings around the PC portrait (which has a hand symbol -- for mage I reckon), and you can see Sera's portrait in the tactical orders ring. Being a video it's hard to tell exactly which orders were given to whom and whether health is being restore via potion or some demo mode unrelated to orders. I didn't notice whether Sera was given an order to quaff a potion, so I can't say.
Edit: Okay I analyzed it a bit further and to me, it's not clear that the dagger wielding character in center screen is the one selected. The portrait of Sera IS highlighted in the ring of orders, but agree it's the PC who is given the potion order. I would agree that the class of the PC is unclear (the hand may be just the green-handed inquisitor symbol, not indicative of class like I assumed), but the abilities clearly seem like a mage (Vivienne isn't selected nor apparently in the screen). The dagger character isn't Sera, I concede, because she's armed with a bow. If the dagger character is the PC, I'd have to agree with the original post that it's at odds with the apparent mage abilities.
But the game will be alright. As this is a demo who knows what liberties have been taken with the abilities and class.

Being a video it's hard to tell exactly which orders were given to whom and whether health is being restore via potion or some demo mode unrelated to orders. First off, the hand symbol is the symbol indicating the Inquisitor for all the demos. It has been the same whether the inquisitor is a mage, rogue, or warrior
The portraits on the left, where it tells you what each character is doing, Sera is doing "Long Shot". Vivienne and Iron Bull are doing "basic attack". The video is talking about using potions, and the selection in the quick menu was to use a health potion. The Inquisitor is doing "basic attack" then switches to "health potion" upon the player making that selection in the quick menu. The character the video is centered on uses a health potion, and the Inquisitor's health goes up.
Thus the inquisitor is the one that the game is centered on. Are they the one selected? Yes. Because watching the whole video, you can tell that the Inquisitor is the player controlled character at 1:32 because the outer ring is the one that designates which character is controlled(the inner ring designating stamina/mana and the health bar is under the picture. This means that one of two things: The inquisitor is a mage, or the pictures for the abilities aren't for a mage, even though they look like they are. That said, the Inquisitor at 1:32 doesn't look like a mage due to the armor, dual-wielding daggers, and dwarven stature...

Aren't those functionally maces? So essentially the question is are there any Maces modeled to look like hammers?

-Is dodging/rolling an ability available to all classes? Are their specific dodges to a certain class/race?
-If there are any racial bonuses, are they mostly passive? Or will we have some active/sustainable racial abilities?
-In theory, is the Inquisitor obviously more powerful than our companions (like Shepard in ME, Warden in Origins, Hawke in DA:2). Unless you totally mess up, the protagonist is always significantly more powerful and varied than our companions/party.
-Can glyphs can destroyed or dispelled? Or will they only wear off after a certain amount of time?
-Is there going to be Fall-Damage, now that we can jump?

I'm not so sure. The selection ring is on the Inquisitor portrait, and a highlighted yellow circle is around the potion-drinking character. Furthermore, Sera can't be wielding daggers because she's using the Longshot ability according to the little indicator next to her portrait.

Yes and no.
No because maces and hammers are different weapons. Yes, they're one handed blunt weapons, but saying they're the same is like saying the short sword and the saber are the same. The hammer has -due its low frontal area- more anti-armor capabilities while the mace creates bigger wounds against lightly armored opponents but isn't as good as the hammer against the heaviest armors.
Yes because BW could simply make a mace look like a hammer with different stats and use the same animations. But the same could be said about short swords and daggers, and any other weapons that share animations.
Its still worth a question though.

I never meant to imply it wasn't worth a question. At this point anything other than "Who does I get romance make sex happy lolz" is worth a question. I still feel that for best results, one shouldn't overcomplicate a question because I can almost guarantee you that a Dev would read your original post and respond the same way I did. (Yes: One handed Hammers are Maces)
Instead, get a little bit more specific even if it seems kind of trivial compared to some other questions. Just up and ask "Can I channel my Inner-Thor and wield a mace shaped as a hammer?!" At that point the dev really has only three options: Yes, No, Can't comment. There is no infinite space of "Misinterpretation" there.

Anyone ask any skill tree related questions?

Posté 04 août 2014 - 12:04
Hey,
ok here are some of my questions:
Are there any fights were you have to defend certain areas/people?
Can our stronghold/castle be attacked?
Can we install defenses (traps etc.) before something like that happens?
Do we get kinetic spells again (like the force-mage from DA2)?
...(maybe I will think of a few more ^^)
greetings LAX
