Imagine instead of waking up next to Triss in The Witcher 2, Geralt woke up next to a naked Zoltan.

I've not played the Witcher so these names don't mean much to me. But I'd think it would say more about the fanbase itself than the quality of the game if there was widespread dismay over how Geralt woke up next to Zoltan. Since the Witcher is a mature game series, I am assuming its fans can handle that not every piece of the games is tailored for their exact preference.

Women may make up roughly 51% of the population, but the women that play games are way less than the men that do ( and before you link me that stupid study which treats mobile apps as games... don't. Pretty sure it's made in the US, too. )

Yeah, uh, not touching this one.

Your "data" assumes all men feel the same way you do.

I'd bet they don't

What data?

I criticised saying women make up half the planet when that's irrelevant to the amount of women that play dragon age.

If I am expected to deal with my character being gay and I having no say in it, then minorities should be expected to understand that the world doesn't revolve around them.

The game is popular because of that. Witcher is catered specifically to a specific audience, so no, they can't.

Men and women can be rogue, warrior or mage.
If they will be strong or weak, only time will tell :)

whatever your troubles with minorities trying to make the world revolve around them and such are ( ), I think hoping for BW to keep up with previous DA games and keeping a (more, less) gender-balanced ratio among enemies, it's perfectly reasonable, especially because, as I said, it makes sense lore-wise and, since it's been done before, probably it's not problematic in terms of resources

Jesus, I noticed slaugtering plenty of women in both dragon age games, do they really need an excat quota? Christ who even cares, who's life is so fine and dandy that they count the number of female warriors they kill in a video game? God damn.

You know what, how come its always women advertised on the bottles of hair dye and make up? Plenty of men use those products!

I can see where you're coming from. Having a character who was previously straight suddenly be gay would seem out of character and could be considered pandering to gay fans.

However NO ONE is asking for diversity to be added by making straight characters gay, the act of adding a character that happens to be gay is what most people want.

Arguing that that is pandering makes no sense, it is simply including a wider variety of characters.

The world also doesn't revolve around the 'white straight male' demographic which has the most representation of any demographic across all types of media.

The lack of diversity in the media in general can have some very negative effects

Edit: lol had weirder variety, instead of wider variety  :D

People can try and justify it a hundred ways if they want but no matter what you say if you are someone who gets REALLY UPSET at someone suggesting equal representation and try to argue against it... just stop. Be the conversation about gender or sexuality or anything like that, if you're against equal representation... you need to step back and work some stuff out. Bioware has made it very clear that they want to strive to be as inclusive as possible and will listen to fan feedback regarding how to better equally represent different types of people. If that makes you angry, then you need to leave and work out whatever personal issues is causing it. Because it's a problem.

I just said the same sentence three times in slightly different ways. Consider it pre-empting the inevitable responses I would have to make, because we all know this conversation is doomed to go in circles and have us all repeat ourselves over and over again anyway.

Seem people on this thread are implying women are a minority.

They really aren't. Regardless of the fact thy it's rough half and half, technically there are more women than men in the world.

Your character is not necessarily gay because he wakes up next to a man. Furthermore I find it interesting that you seem fine with the notion that the average consumer would rage if Geralt woke up next to a man, but you make no effort to show how it's unfair to other people that their characters are forced into straight relationships. I will choose to assume the best by speculating you do have an issue with that but found it an off-topic tangent.

But again, you talk about minorities assuming the world revolves around them. Women aren't a minority and they won't become a minority no matter how much you say they are. Whatever your beef may be with minorities simply requesting some representation and presence in games, it is not on-topic to this thread.

No one ever suggested an exact quota.

That is a common argument brought up in this thread, which baffles me as literally NOONE is arguing it.

Witcher is catered specifically to a specific audiencep.

It's not ''catered''.

That's how the Witcher is. He is heterosexual. When the overwhelming majority of people in this world are straight and you have a straight hero that doesn't mean the game caters to that majority, it simply means it follows the natural order of things.

If Geralt were to be gay, then the game would indeed cater to gays, because their numbers are smaller and as such the odds of Geralt being gay are lower.

Because being gay is not the norm. If you take a random person on this globe the odds of him being heterosexual are overwhelmingly higher than being gay.

Ha.

They've never experienced real pain for being forced to play a character that doesn't match your sexuality. If we can play straight dudes then the straight dudes will survive for playing gay dudes.

And we must also respect the work of others.
If someone wrote that way with those characters, we also can not be forced to change others' creations.

If someone is not happy with the story, simple, study and write your own story with the characters you want.

And I never will, because I refuse to play a game in which I am forced to witness gay scenes.

It won't happen anytime soon, either. The sales would be horrible.

Maybe because I'm using the dark theme on the forum, why is Pateu's comments always have a white box around them?

And what about me and the rest of gay people who are being forced to witness straight scenes?
