And what about me and the rest of gay people who are being forced to witness straight scenes?

Nah, we need to sit in the back of the bus since it's more natural for the majority to have the front seats.

Genetics doesn't care for political correctness.

The gay gene is not something that can be explained yet, but there's no doubt that it's an unexplainable occurence.

So yeah, natural order of things.

perfect. why don't you bring this lovely speech to a "I hate gay sex scenes" thread and wait to see if it gets closed in more or less than 24 hours, instead of making your best to get this one closed :)

Also the offtopic is strong in this thread. I expect it to meet the lock soon enough.

Seem people on this thread are implying women are a minority.

They really aren't. Regardless of the fact thy it's rough half and half, technically there are more women than men in the world.

Because it makes certain types of male gamers feel better if they pretend that certain hobbies of theirs are "for men". Some guys like to say that few or no girls REALLY like things like video games or comic books because they want them to be, and I quote, "safe male spaces". Regardless of if a guy will admit this or not, the fact that some of them treat women like a minority and want them to stay away from their hobbies says much more about them than I ever could.

To quote Adam Sessler: "When you make such a novelty out of the other gender, what the **** are you saying?"

No one ever suggested an exact quota.

That is a common argument brought up in this thread, which baffles me as literally NOONE is arguing it.

Oh sorry I read the title as can we have about 20% of warriors be women and about 50% of mages be women? I guess around 20/50% isn't exact though good point! Also, less women play games than men, that  is what people mean when the refer to women as the minority. Just like less men dye their hair and use make up hence, women are overwelmingly used in advertising those products.

Good point.

I think people often use the word minority, if incorrectly, to mean "people who have been historically discriminated against." Of course you don't necessarily have to be a minority to face persecution. (South Africa and Apartheid, for instance)

Your character is not necessarily gay because he wakes up next to a man. Furthermore I find it interesting that you seem fine with the notion that the average consumer would rage if Geralt woke up next to a man, but you make no effort to show how it's unfair to other people that their characters are forced into straight relationships. I will choose to assume the best by speculating you do have an issue with that but found it an off-topic tangent.

Geralt is a pre-established character from a popular set of fantasy books. CD Projekt Red couldn't have made him gay, or even bisexual, without significantly deviating from the source material. I think they are being unfairly criticized here for having Geralt be canonically heterosexual, when he is heterosexual in the books. Fans might have a point if he was an original character created by the devs, but he is not.

Being a book character is also why Geralt is railroaded into pining for Yennefer, even though the player may not care for her or even know who she is. In the books she is very much Geralt's soul mate, though their relationship is a bit tempestuous.

Complaing about not having an option for Geralt to be gay would be a bit like having a Lord of the Rings RPG and some fans complaining that they can't have Aragon attempt to romance Legolas, despite the book character being in love with Arwen.

Women have always fought. The Russians had all female infantry units in 1917. Before that women were fighting in disguise in the American Civil War, War of Independence and the French Revolution. They've been cavalry officers, pirates and fighter pilots.

If we were building the perfect army concerns about strength might count for something. But we're not. Women can and have fought.

Maybe because I'm using the dark theme on the forum, why is Pateu's comments always have a white box around them?

I think he copies and pastes them or something.

Maybe they just don't like seeing women "demanding" that 20% of this has to be girls and 50% of this has to be girls and link should be a girl or gay(yes I have seen that). I also saw some people here on the BSN seriously annoyed that they had the audacity to use a "White male who was probably stright no less!" in the trailers.

Wanting more women is not a problem of course but some of these people go overboard and act like its the devlopers duty to make sure they don't put in too many stright white males.

...I'd think it would say more about the fanbase itself than the quality of the game if there was widespread dismay over how Geralt woke up next to Zoltan. Since the Witcher is a mature game series, I am assuming its fans can handle that not every piece of the games is tailored for their exact preference.

This was my first laugh out loud moment of the day.

Women in combat: will DAI have proportional numbers of female enemies?

For the sake of immersion, I certainly hope not.

I'm a grown-ass man, beating up a bunch of virtual-women (as they scream in agony, no less) gives me ZERO satisfaction (and almost makes me feel guilty).

Ladies, you can't have it all; you can't spend this week tearing-down the NFL for not punishing Ray Rice enough for domestic abuse, while at the same time trying to get video-game publishers to add more imagery of violence against women.

I know Dragon Age is supposed to be fantasy; but as men, we can only suspend reality so much.

Did you play DA:O, DA II, or any of the ME games?

You murdered lots of women in those games.

And yeah, killing female armed and armored female character in video games has nothing to do with real world domestic abuse. Please don't even go there.

Let me get this straight:

Massive multi-storey fire-breathing dragons? Okay.

Dimension-bending tears in the fabric of reality? Totally cool.

Conjuring fire with the power of your mind? You can totally dig it.

Demons formed from the dark emotions of the living taking corporeal form? Your immersion is just fine.

A world where women aren't discouraged from taking up arms to fight? Whoa, suspension of reality can only go so far. What is this, some kind of fantasy?

How shocking - somebody who benefits from the status quo finds changing it to be unnecessary.

All of the acrobatic stunts Hawke pulls as a rogue - or even as a warrior - are highly unrealistic as well, but you don't seem to have a problem with those. Has it ever occurred to you, Pateu, that Dragon Age takes places in a fantasy world, where women can easily be as strong as men?

Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean the laws of physics are thrown out the window. Swords are still swords, armor is still armor.

The only way to enhance your strength above the normal is by being an Arcane Warrior.

Or by putting points into strength.

Men and women having the same level of str, dex, con, int, wis, and char has been the standard in RPGs for a couple of decades now. I can't remember the last time I played a cRPG or PnP RPG and gender impacted the stats of the PC or the NPCs.

Which is why I laughed when someone said there is no political correctness in games.

Oblivion did

I was just looking for that. I -KNEW- Oblivion had gender differences!

Like, Males got more Strength and women more Agility or something.

While it takes away from cookie cutter builds, I like that over everything being politica- equal. It simply gives some realism to it.
