Women in combat: will DAI have proportional (~20% female soldiers, ~50% female mages) numbers of female enemies?

They may well be. Dwarves being extremely strong despite their short posture --stronger than way larger humans, in fact-- are a bit of a fantasy trope.

In other words, pretty bad example.

Fantasy trope? Might I remind you that chimps are several times stronger than fully grown adult male humans, despite only being about as tall to a human as to be only up to our knees? Why can't the same be true for DA dwarves?

So you're saying a dwarf is as strong as a qunari?

Actually, yes they are. Dwarfs are pretty strong.

Yeah, that's why Aragorn tosses Gimli with one hand.

Depends on the universe, I guess. But stronger than a qunari? Hah, no.

Just out of curiousity do we have any reason to think humans/dwarves/elves/qunari have the exact same physiological makeup as us humans from Earth? Or are we just assuming? Anyway even when we factor in how men are stronger and whatever that doesn't excuse the complete lack of female generics completely. You get professional basketball players but that doesn't mean amateurs shouldn't even bother, yah know? Besides assuming strength is the most important thing required for a soldier [especially in a setting where you can easily enough enchant armor to make up for it] is... flawed.

Fair enough point, though I don't think Varric will appreciate that analogy ;)

Not in the books. That was Peter Jackson at the start of his George Lucas'ish downfall.

Because it's a fantasy universe ( and in most humans are the same as us ) and they talk, eat, drink, breed the same way we do.

Naturally. Which is why I said EXCEPTIONAL women would have place in the army.

But why would you spend enchantments on an average woman, which is, by laws of biology, weaker than the average male? It would just be a waste of resources and a bad tactical decision.

Dwarves may not be stronger than a Qunari, but according to the prior games, they are seemingly as strong as the larger race.

It's still sounding like you don't want there to be flying dragons in this game.

Just in case Pateu missed it.

To back up my chimp post-

http://www.slate.com...chimpanzee.html

"Bauman took his study on the road, attempting tests at the Philadelphia Zoo and making inquiries as far afield as Chicago and Cincinnati. In 1926, he returned to the Bronx Zoo, successfully testing the largest chimpanzee then in captivity. That animal, named Boma, pulled 847 pounds one-handed."

You show me a human on the entire planet that can one handed lift 847 pounds. Go on, find an example. So shortness does not equal weak. Dwarves in DA might very well have more strength than Qunari. I could see Oghren beating the Arishok in an arm wrestling match.

Aragorn is pretty strong. And Gimli is a tank. So ya dwarves are still strong.

Again, game mechanics.

Dragons are magical creatures. Not every human has magic. I mean, what's the mage population in Ferelden? A tower? Give or take a few dozen apostates?

Added the heaviest a male chimp get is 60 kg/132 lbs

Females are 47 kg/103 lbs.

So they are light and strong.

Again, game mechanics.

Or different 'laws of biology'. Being you know, made up world with its own rules.

Heck, even gravity in Thedas works different if the rogues' acrobatics and such are anything to go by.

Or lyrium, bone density, longevity, etc; may other factors in the lore could be used to explain such equality, superiority, or inferiority. The lore should decide; not non-Thedas standards.

Even Tolkien described dwarves as having very powerful bodies and thicker bones. They were also described as being very strong. I am guessing this is the case in dragon age too.

Not a game mechanic. Their entire race form of combat is about hitting things as hard as they can with massive hammers.

They are as strong and qunari.

I love the setting but it the most frustrating thing about it how it is never biologically realized, especially in comparison to Mass Effect. We know next to nothing about how physiology works with elves, dwarves, qunari... and even humans. We are never told of The similarities between humans in Thedas and the humans on Earth are just superficial. It is especially frustrating since they have all been given such vibrant cultures, while questions about whether dwarves can catch the same diseases as humans, or if there is a possibility for elves to grow beards and become swole strongmen.

Which disturbs me because we are going to be able to play a race that knows much more about itself than we do (as players), whereas the alien races in Mass Effect were much more fleshed out despite the fact that you always play as a human

Ok Pateu, let's be serious here. In what do you, personally, think women are better than men? Or do you think that men are overall better than women physically (not strength) and mentally?

Opinion.

When I see a dwarf dual wielding massive greataxes, I'll treat it as fact.

Agility/Flexibility.

Women's gymnastics has always been more popular than men's.

I personally think women would make much better scouts since smaller frames = better at not being seen and flexibility means they can reach better vantage points.

It is up to the developers to specify this, though. In the lore. So players know how things work early on.

I don't think you can dual wield two-handed weapons in any Bioware game.
