No, it doesn't. Leliana even tells you a story of how Aveline was Joan of Arc'd for competing in a tournament.

That's a vague statement and means next to nothing.

Hundreds of years ago, yes. Aparantly times have changed. And the story doesn't state that that bit was the norm in other countries.

Having random generic lackys who you kill to be women is actually very important.

It shows that people, even thoose you don't talk with(in fact, sometimes people you fight), are both men and women.

While I am sure that Bioware will make a completely fair representation since they are awesome I am astonished that some people on this thread can be so...close mined(eh, for  lack of a better word).

I am baffled by the fact that some men(and even some women) say that it is wrong to kill women in video games since it is not morally right to kill/fight women as males. The claim is completely sexist, even if on a subconcious level.

In a completely non-sexist world where both genders were equal men would have no problem fighting and killing female enemies just as they would have no problem fighting and killing male enemies. It is practically the same thing besides minor differences in body type

We already have that so it's not an issue.

Do not require pics of exceptions, as the Arishock himself is such an example. Not all Quanari are as strong as their leader.

But this thread is about the role of women as opponents, and the lore should be utilized for this.

Quite right. spot on, in fact. A qunari rogue wouldn't have worked on building his STR too much. Naturally stronger at the starting point of his career, than an elf would be, sure. But one does need to work on it to build muscles THAT big.

you seem to think that everything in life is one of two things: average or exceptional.

Is he wrong in this assessment?

Why are you putting words in his mouth?

He simply said gamers don't care if they kill men or women.

Most don't. I'm fairly sure the guy that said he can't kill women because principles was trolling.

Is he wrong in this assessment?

In the way we use English in real life, yes.

Exceptional implies extremely rare. Average means most common.

If 51% of men had brown hair, for example, you wouldn't say not having brown hair is EXCEPTIONAL. You'd say it's not typical, or unusual.

So yeah, the words 'average' and 'exceptional' do not cover all colours of meaning and scale of rarity which the English language offers.

Why are you assuming a dragon's ability to fly is fueled by magic? And what about giant spiders, then?

Waiting for an answer...

No, I'm saying you went all semantics on my ass and it was uncalled for.

I was confused as to why you used such extreme language.

That doesn't mean they use magic to fly. What's the point of them having wings otherwise?

Yes it does. If you knew anything about biology, you would know that it would be physically impossible for a high dragon to so much as lift off the ground at all. Those wings can't possibly support that body size and weight. Fact is, they have to be using so sort of magic to get lift seeing as there's no way that the wings could do it on their own.

Also, what is the problem exactly?  Would you be able to relate to the no name enemies more, if said enemies were female?  I believe there is a difference between a "leader" type enemy, who would end up in a cut scene or a main antagonist, etc, but a grunt-like enemy?  I don't see the point of having that whole "equality" issue being brought in regards to enemies you won't remember, when your main goal may be to get to a badass female Mage, who you have to get through a bunch of faceless mobs, male or female, regardless.

I might as well start asking the developers to make every enemy and companion left handed.  Or am I out of line with that sort of suggestion?

Dragons are described as magical creatures. Giant spiders are just part of the fauna - like wolves etc.

It is exceptionally important to have thoose no name lackys as women as it depicts that even the non-important sword and shield mercenary people are also both men and women, women are not only leaders and badass mages, some women are just random trash mobs too.

I thought he was replying to the red bit, which started 'in a completely non-sexist world', to which he replied 'we already have that.'

It wasn't clear that he was talking about thedas to me, but I apologise if I misunderstood.

That's my point: dragons are physically impossible, by Earth standards. We don't know how their flight is powered - it could be magic, or it could be special Thedas physics. Either way, why is it so easy to accept one "physical impossibility", and not the other?

The way you use English is not relevant to the definition of the word.

Exceptional comes from Exception, which means unusual. It's the same thing. The word is simply more... grand.

It's as if I used flabbergasted to say that I am shocked. They mean the same. It simply is more strong.

You not liking it doesn't change its meaning.

You using it differently doesn't change its meaning.

Waiting for an answer...

What more than ''magic'' do you want? They have huge wings that can knock people off their feet when they fly. Obviously they are very strong.

also

http://static.fjcdn....0a6a_663520.jpg

The way people use English is all that the definition of a word is. That's why definitions change.

Exactly: it's more strong. And when you're talking about percentages, using strong words such as exceptional imply things about those percentages and figures, namely in this case that they are smaller.

It's nothing to do with me not liking it, exceptional is a great word, useful and even fun to say. That doesn't mean I have to approve of it being used for hyperbole in an argument about actual figures not philosophies which creates the wrong impression.

And giant spiders shouldn't be able to exist the way they do if Thedosian physics/atmospheric makeup are the same as Earth's.
