Women in combat: will DAI have proportional (~20% female soldiers, ~50% female mages) numbers of female enemies?

...And I come here when I get tried of Tumblr.....

But kidding aside...you have nothing to worry about. Bioware has always been very good with this sort of thing DA:O was good show female soldiers and Villans. And they improved with DA:2. So there is little reason to be concerned.

I'd like to see male and female enemies.I can imagine that a female troll would become the next broodmother given that trolls don't wear clothing and thus you'd end up with saggy troll boobs that are bigger than Iron Bull. The developers might want to avoid that image.Dragon Age has been better with this than the Mass Effect team, so I'm not worried.

Mass effect was pretty good in me2 with regard to female enemies

Me3 was a bit of a shocker on that front though :/

You're probably right, it's just from what we've seen so far it's seemed a bit like a step back :/

There were many generic female mercenaries in Mass effect 1 and Mass effect 2, and I don't count the Asari. Dragon age has also been good with female enemies. I'm not sure how the Op could be even worried after DAII.

Can't base a few images and screenshots and some gameplay as Bioware taking a step back. There is still so much we have yet to see.

And really?  You're still lambasting Ubisoft as "anti-female"?  Look, their reasons for not having a female main character WAS bogus, but you can't accuse them of sexism just because they decided to go with a male protagonist.  That doesn't make any sense.

Firstly, the assassins creed debate is about the multiplayer characters, not the main characters.

Secondly, I dont care THAT much about that. However, across assassins creed and far cry, there have been a whopping TWENTY male protagonists and literally ONE female protagonist.

Like, in far cry one, you have a choice between twelve protagonists and every single one is male.

Surely you can appreciate how by acting like that they seem sexist?

I'm worried as in the early trailers inquisition fighters and grey wardens were 100% male, excluding Cassandra.

I know they'll probably come through, but I feel I have reason enough to at least ASK whether there are female enemies.

This is a industry problem which is unfortunate...But Bioware is past this. They have plenty of heroes and Villians of both genders. The female Dailish is even Bioware's Canon.

True enough.

That's why I was asking the questions in the OP, for clarification. Hopefully some cool bioware person will be able to allay my fears :)

Yeah Bioware is definitely past it, hence why in the OP I say they are much better on this front than ubisoft.

The guy I was replying to was asking why I thought Ubisoft were acting sexist though

Anyways, it's too late, it's more about polishing the game and fixing bugs now. You'll have to wait and see.

Your basing your fears off of the grey wardens an organization where females are rare.

Would you care if nearly every person you could kill in a video game with a liberal setting was black, and white characters were largely protected by the plot?

Whether I care or not is irrelevant. This situation would never happen. Unless the game is set in a fictional world where the protagonist is the leader of the KKK, I don't see this happening in modern video games.

I know this question is not asking for exact amounts for both genders, and is instead asking for "realistic" amounts. What does that even mean? Is there an exact measure for that? When will we know that an x number of women is considered "realistic"?

And even if we somehow get that right amount, who's going to pay enough attention to realize that throughout the course of the entire game (a game that spans at least 50 hours) they've just killed that right amount of women and will be able to say "Ok I think about half of the mobs I've faced have women on them"

Okay, I think we're getting a little overboard with this "fair representation" of the sexes in video games here.

That said, I don't recall an insanely disproportionate number of male to female goons in either DA:O or DA2.

I don't think it really should matter much either. Whoever you kill in-game is fine, be it male, female, monster or animal.

I liked how the criminal gangs and guilds in DA2 had allot of females in them, like most of the prominent members of to Coterie and most of the leaders we saw were female.

I think different factions have different gender ratios depending on all kinds of things but it would be nice to see more females in armies and so on.

As for specific ones like the troll thing well it's a difficult one. It's not always worth creating multiple models for these kinds of enemies. I actually never assumed it's gender but I guess if they are going to make the model look like one gender they should have some of those kinds of enemies looking female.

By realistic, I mean that we see about 10-20% female combatants, and also that, since more men are in the army, townspeople have a proportionally higher female population than male as the men are fighting more to a large extent.

Feminism is believing men are equal to women, how can that ever be foolish?

Unless your talking about the extremely rare branch of feminism where people believe women are better than men, that really is foolish. But that's not what feminism is.

Don't be silly. Everybody knows that men are the disposable gender, and to add insult to injury feminists claim that men are sent to die in wars because they love it so much. So of course we're primarily going to slaughter faceless men.
