But Gibbed enemies has been a tradition since Baldur's Gate. Must that now go since some believe everything terrible BioWare does started with DA2?
I'll admit, the screenshake and giblets as I smashed people with Carsomyr often solicited giggles.

I thought that an engine limitation more than anything, that the engine can't tell the difference between massive damage from spell, weapons, different types of weapons etc, so had one ludicrous gibs animation fro everything?
If you hit -10 health, people exploded.
It's not hard to find the information for what did the damage to you if they wanted to, given that it's all listed in the log. I'd be skeptical if it was an engine limitation as opposed to something done simply to be funny/entertaining.

I'd have to say if the goal was to be funny/entertaining then it really missed the mark. Although it could be because it felt very cheaply/lazily done, maybe if there was more detail/fidelity to it (like, if it looked as if the enemies actually do get cut in half with the sword swings and such rather than the weird body part explosions we got) then my reaction possibly would've been different. Hard to tell at this point.
Um, we're talking about Baldur's Gate 2 in this tangent.

My comment was for both to BG2 and DA2, since their approach generated pretty much the same impression.
Your argument, in my impression (since I didn't work here during BG2), seems less valid towards BG2 due to the nature of working with 2D animations. But maybe it's just because I'm not familiar with people referring to stuff that happened in BG2 as lazily done.
Regardless, the enemies turned into little giblets and the screen shook. Why do you think it was added?

That's just it, there is no risk in putting nipples in the game. Hell, DAO had bare female nipples with Morrigan. If you use a certain exploit with the camera, Morrigan has a low-res pair of nipples on her breasts when wearing her unique robes. And if it's in the code, it counts toward the rating. A certain GTA game got made into AO for a while when a sex scene buried in the code was uncovered. So a Bioware game has already gotten away with it.
The issue with GTA was that the sex scene allowed for interaction. It was also the issue that required Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit) to have a scene cut out of the North American release, as well.

Indigo Prophecy also had the nipples removed in the one scene which was apparently left (partially) in. It also had removed non-interactive scenes depicting sex, so interactivity would be only part of the "problem" when it comes to ratings of this kind of content.
Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't Triss show her nipples in The Witcher 2's NA release (I'm pretty sure they were there in my game).

Yes, although if I remember right an interview with the Witcher devs, they admitted they pretty much "snuck that in" by not mentioning it to people in charge of assigning the rating. Although this could be about the first Witcher game, I really can't remember at this point.
Tricky to say if they're just having fun with it, because the reality is that it'd still be known. Perhaps the San Andreas issue was enough of a controversy that there was more insistence to show that the ESRB would take matters seriously, but sneaking something past the ESRB would be a heck of a gamble.
