Hello all,

Typically I play as a mage in my first play through, but I've been considering playing as the rogue for DAI. A look at their talents has me sincerely curious about the amount of fun I could have.

The idea of being a swift ninja-esque assassin/archer with poisons and traps at my disposal sounds appealing. If anything this would help me adjust my mindset and look at the other races for a different play through.

It looks like the rogue gets some potions/poisons as talents.

A few of these are dual dagger specific, but you can imagine the damage they do.

This one has a couple of different icons, by it looks like an evade and stealth talent.

Anyone else considering using a different class than their go to?

I usually prefer rogues (I was surprised in da2 when I found I liked the mages better in that game. I hadn't been too blown away by my mage run in dAO)

However my love of dwarves means they're my first run...and I can't do a dwarf mage. So I'm staying rogue.

Rogue IS my go-to Class.

However, I may...may do something funky with Mage.

Maybe.

I almost always start as a slash & bash - or sword & board - since they are the easiest for me to manage during the learning curve of the overall game.  Second playthrough is usually a dual-wielding rogue.  Ranged weapons users & mages are harder for me, as I tend to just rush into battle with little thought of what I'm going to do when I get there lol  I'm looking forward to playing other races...I really missed that in DA2.

I'm the opposite - I've barely played mages in Dragon Age (mostly because in Origins you had to do the circle origin which seemed kinda sucky, and because in DA2 Carver survived and he always seemed like such a ******), but I'm planning on playing a female Qunari Mage for my first DAI playthrough simply so I can RP them as a self-flagellating authority-shirking Qun follower who really wants someone else to take charge and tie them up for being an abomination...huh, that came across as kinkier than I meant it to be.  Not sure what that says about me....

Rogue is easily my favorite class, and my first Inquisitor will most certainly be one, but I have to say, since DA2, I've gotten quite fond of the mage. That said, all the magic in Thedas can't compare to stylishly stabbing my enemies to death.

Duel wielding rogue is my go to class, but ever since seeing the archery I really can't decide between the two. I'm hoping for some kind of weapon swap button like in DA:O so that I can use both without it being a chore.

I'm going to play rogue first ,usually I start with mages .

I've played rogue in DA2 and DAO , I really liked rogues in DA2, more than mages , I was surprised.

Now for RP reasons I want to play an archer this time , and ...I'm not super excited about what I've been seeing.

It seems Sera is able to do a lot of damages but it looks like she's always doing the same thing.

It looks like auto attack all the time (I'm sure it's not the case^^) , mages have some pretty cool stuff ...Wall of fire , glyph, teleport , froze time thingie etc...

I'm wondering if archer is going to be fun , or if I should drop my RP idea and use dagger instead.

I never liked rogues (or bards, or thieves, or rangers) or mages (or monks, or druids, or sorcerers) in RPGs. DA2 made me like mages. Maybe DA:I will make me like rogues.

I love rogues! I almost always play a rogue/thief class in games and rogues have been my favorite class in DA. I have 7 rogue play throughs on DA:O :). Although I really liked Mages in da2 so I'm torn on what I'll play first in DA:I.

I'd definitely play as a rogue first if mage wasn't the most interesting class, lore wise. I loved what I saw of the rogue combat so far, and it's usually the class I pick in all other PRGs. The magic type classes are usually not as fun due to them just staying back during fights and not looking very active (DA2 excluded as I found playing as a  mage there extremely fun because of the awesome animations). Only class I'm not tempted to play as so far is the two handed warrior (and maybe archer, though that looked cool too). Everything else looks really fun.

So yes it is extremely tempting for me to go as a rogue for my first playthrough but...gotta play a mage first.

I think for the sake of the demo, Sera was limited in the skills/talents she displayed. She is a serious damage dealer. I like that. Ranged weapons are so cool. Haven't made up my mind whether to focus on archery or twin daggers yet.  I favor distance attacks/weapons, but I have some time to think about it.

I usually play rogues first.  Mostly because I can't stand the idea of going into an area and being unable to unlock doors/chests.  It also allows me to determine which rogue companion I like more, so I can focus on getting them the second time around.

As I don't like the idea of Cole being a party member, this actually makes it important that my first Inquisitor be a Rogue, since I don't intend to get Cole during that run(well, i intend to kill him... but if i can't, i'll just reload and not get him at all).

I prefer ranged weapons and attacks over the up, close, and personal swordplay. The exceptions was when I plead Kingdoms of Amalur,  where dual welding was quick and fun.

I am sincerely thinking playing as an elf this time.

I'm the opposite, I usually play rogues first but in DA:I I think I will play as elf/human mage first instead. Then try out rogue later if I feel like it.

Well I like the look of bows more than daggers ...there's just something badass about bows.

But playing a rogue with daggers was really fun in DA2 , I have no idea about archers.

I've never played a rogue.

It was quite fun in DA2. But I found it pretty meh in Origins.

I'm considering Warrior and Rogue for DA:I. Probably rolling the former first.

In those pics, it looks like rogues will be getting an ice arrow ability.
If so, this just might entice me to play a rogue class on my second or third run through.
maybe tempests like to use enchanted weaponry that invoke the cold and storm. That sounds cool lol.

I tried the warrior. I was bad at it in DAO, DAOA, and DA2. Two handed warrior came easier than sword and shield talents.

Not even once?   :(

May I ask, what is your favored class?
