I've spent a lot of time jumping in Skyrim and I really don't know why but it is awfully captivating.
OMFG We can JUMP!

Can you really lol?
Oblivion has a terrible leveling system that sounds great, but is awful. You level up your skills by actually using them. Makes sense right? Well all it actually does is make you run and jump around, when not doing that crouch everywhere and when not doing that spam your spells ![]()

Really? Is it anymore ridiculous than improving your personality by putting arrows into people?

In all seriousness, I think the reason why we couldn't jump, is the Infinity engine. You can't jump in Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment or Icewind Dale, and they all used the Infinity engine.

Am I the only one saddened by this? Not being able to jump is like, one of Bioware's things. (In my head-universe, at least) Also, jump is usually bound to spacebar, but that's the pause button in DAO and DA2 so, is it going to be jump or pause in DAI and what's the other one going to be? I mean, obviously they can be rebound either way, but using anything other than spacebar for either will feel weird to me...

I WOULD GLADLY TRADE ALL MY PAUSES IN A PLAYTHROUGH FOR ONE SINGLE JUMP

If it's anything like the jump from SWTOR I don't want it.
Jumping puzzles (semi)confirmed for DAI!

You are lucky.

Oh no they might do what Guild Wars 2 did. GW1 didn't have a jump button so it was a highly desired function for GW2. Well the dev delivers with a vengeance. Each map contains at least 1 jumping puzzle. Some of them are very very difficult.

It's actually very intuitive I think... People just have this perception that it's weird because people "Power Level" instead of just play the game. To be honest, if you focus on the content, your character will level up without you ever having to think about.
Except when it comes to the Attribute modifiers. Again, because people like to min-max, it's a race to get the x5 multipliers out of every level. That is what really breaks Oblivion's leveling system. (Acrobatics and Athletics could be scaled back a bit to level faster though)

I don't think jumping adds much to the game. And it risks leading to jumping puzzles and other such crimes against nature

I just mean it's ridiculous that you could/would level up that way. I suppose I could have had better word choice.

Daaaamn you! I had sealed everything about that game deeply away in the back of my mind. Now its at the front again, and my nose is bleeding.

Quite right. But leveling up in that game is actually pointless, because of the scaling. Every enemy levels up when you do.

If I play Oblivion intuitively and focus on the content, then my character ends up crippled and helpless because of the level scaling

Oh, I am quite aware since I completed all but one of them. The one in Malchior's Leap was NOT a jumping puzzle!!! ![]()
While I wouldn't mind them in DAI it is HIGHLY DOUBTFUL they will be in the game, but I can still hope/teast. ![]()
Just you wait for the staggering innovation in DA4 where you'll be able to swim. Next gen.

I personally think jump is overrated. It's perfectly possible to create a game like DA without a jump button.
I just hope it's used for more than lulz, because otherwise it's pointless.
