What an understatement.

Yeah, Bioware's strength has never been animations but it seems DAI is their best work yet on that area. The jump animation looks fine and I really like the small details I've seen in their demos like when you walk down an incline they lean naturally with it as you would walking down a hill. Looks really cool. It's not on Witcher's level of animations but it doesn't have to be for what it is. DAI animations look better than the majority of modern RPGs, IMO.

  1. The fact we can jump has been out there for quite a while now like before E3
  2. The fact that we can jump is nowhere as important as this next question
  3. Can we Double Jump?

I think I remember jumping and rolling in Jade Empire so this isn't Bioware's first foray into this territory. It was a lot of fun too

With their level design now a double jump could make a lot of sense to explore new areas. Remember the exploration trees that grant new abilities? We don't know if they're still in the game in the sense you can get them in skill trees but I do think I remember them saying you actually have to earn the ability to roll. Seems like something like a double jump would be in there somewhere so you can finally explore unreachable areas. They did hint they have some Metroidish design in the game where you'll want to come back to visit areas that couldn't explore before.

Ok, I guess I'll be the first to say this sounds kind of stupid.

So what, if I select all then hit the "jump" button, all 4 of my people will jump? Really?

Maybe somebody can point me to a video of this, but either this is another console-only thing, or it is really starting to look like the pc design of DAI might actually have been just an afterthought.

Sweet, highlight everyone, make them jump up and down, even in parallel, then record it and attach a music file.  Watch a new Inquisition dance off video. :D

Edit:  Or make Bull jump and when he lands the other three in the party jump up. :D

the rebellious templars will be surprised when i roll up to their fortifications with main battle tanks and self propelled missiles

for some reason i wish this was true . tanks would be vulnerable to mages i suspect  but couple of these would roll over any castle or fort

I personally think jump is overrated. It's perfectly possible to create a game like DA without a jump button.

I just hope it's used for more than lulz, because otherwise it's pointless.

Do you know how many times I had to take a long walk completely around a short hill, terrace, pebble, ledge in KOTOR/DAO/DA2 when any able being  (much less the titans we play as) could simply just jump up or down them!?

It makes sense in an Isometric RPG but once Bioware went full 3D it was (imo) an odd design oversight to not have jump.

It was so silly I'm glad we can finally do it!

No need for it though, since two quick jabs with a shield does the same trick.

It's not clear how jumping will work from within a point-and-click interface.

Hopefully NOT how it worked in Ultima 8 :)

I've played Bioware games for years to try and get off my jumping-addiction from Morrowind.

Oh, god, the hoptoad spell... I miss that kind of spell so bad. I mean, what's the point in being a mage if you can`t frigging levitate, or at least slowfall? Why do I have to circumvent obstacles like a muggle?

Jumping is a wonderful thing.

In DA2 (Legacy DLC) my Hawke had to fight numerous Pride Demons and Golems, simply because of an inability to jump over a small pile of sand and a little rubble.

Also jumping up a slight incline might mean that some enemies cannot kill you...

When I played wow I would literally spam the space bar when running anywhere... Particularly with elves. Now that I broke my addiction to wow(sort of), my jumping addiction died off as well. I could care less if we can actually jump or not.

You don't think there will be? I expect it to be there. Either that or invisible barriers to block you from jumping off really high places.

This has literally nothing to do with consoles, so stop trying to make it.

They probably won't change that. They'll just be a MAGIC invisible wall. In fact I doubt jumping will allow you to do much.
