... and now I want the next Mass Effect NOW! I cannot wait to see they work on the Frostbite 3 engine to recreate the Mass Effect universe and expand its glory!

Make it right, Bioware!

Funny, I found myself thinking similar thoughts after leaving this movie last night. Very good movie.

Hmm I heard the plot was convoluted and shallow.....but, they get away with it just like any Marvel film because of comedy/set-pieces/fan service

I guess I'll decide for myself when I see it.

Leaving this film thinking that the plot was convuluted and shallow is the definition of sadness.

Which is why I don't trust critics.

Then again, most were right about TDKR....that sucked balls

This is actually spot on, its packed full of comedy though. I enjoyed the acting aswell, the plot could have been decent had they had more time to work with but at already 2 hours it would have been difficult to squeeze in extra necessary detail without blowing the limit out.

This is why a mass effect movie based on the trilogy would never work.

8/10 and a would buy on bluray.

TDKR is hardly an exception, as it has a mostly positive reception from the critics.

Would like a similar style setting, in terms of smaller crew and ship, but much closer friendship among the crew. Also not being military and more like space rogues.

seemed like a mediocre reception at best imo. "Christopher Nolan's biggest film, and yet his worst film" is the phrase that rings most true for me.

Doesn't matter. The reviews were generally favorable.

You must be confused. When I said it sucked balls, that was my opinion. I expected it to suck balls because even critics weren't heaping praise on it as they did with his previous films. I never said it was poorly reviewed overall. (nor did I say that about GoG. I merely listed it's most prominent criticism)

I said most were right. It was his worst film.

Imo it sucked balls.

I swear there was a location in the movie that reminded me so much of both Omega and that Reaper head from ME2

Better question:  Did he pick Red, Blue, or Green?   :D

Knowhere right? Mining colony, check. Hub for ruthless underground activity, check. Infrastructure built upon the husk of a large extraterrestrial object, check. And that head of a Celestial, very much resembles that creepy human Reaper head, indeed.

GotG was soooooooo much fun, I agree with OP, the glitzy, colorful, fantastical sci-fi world they portrayed in the movie made me crave ME4 even more.

Saw it a few hours ago with a couple others.

8/10 good fun. Its more mediocre parts were made up by the clear impression of the cast and crew's enthusiasm and the emphasis being put on the better parts of the film.

Lots of Mass Effecty feeling to a bunch of it. Very good use of color and shape to convey theme.

I had some issues with parts of the writing and pacing.

The plot isn't actually anything special. But that isn't really the point. The dialogue and visual acting is really, really clever. The movie is genuinely funny and at times actually quite touching. The worst part is that it is part of the marvel universe, I think it would be a lot better without that baggage on it's own.

This was the kind of CGI I'd like to see in ME movie. Also, 3D was a bit unreal (on long distances you see all objects as on one plane, because of human eyes limitations), though it gave very pleasant effect.

Just saw it.

It was a lot of fun. The comedy was well written. All the main characters had their moments. But it was very formulaic. The plot/narrative was definitely weak. So much so, that I found myself just waiting for the next funny line so that I could get back to laughing (and it was genuine laughter). Still, it's a good sci fi romp and sure to be a cult classic. It had sort of a Fifth Element goofiness to it that I definitely approve of.

There wasn't much character progression for anybody except for the "Guardians" themselves. I'm only reminded that it's a Marvel Comic movie when the main villain is on screen. Unfortunately, he is relatively prominent in the film. And while he looks totally bad ass, character wise he just blows. I'm talking Bane levels of suck ass (yeah, I went there).

I will say that contrary to popular opinion, I thought Groot had the standout performance (not Rocket). However, I don't think any single character steals the show, but all of them together certainly shine. Despite their weak origins compacted into a few lines of dialogue (besides Starlord), they all have quality moments of self discovery and new found strength to push through that shallowly explored past.

The special effects are top notch and downright beautiful. But none of the action really blew me away. The classic multi-genre soundtrack was a good choice and well implemented.

All that being said, I really didn't get any Mass Effect vibes from this film whatsoever. And that's fine. I enjoyed it's own unique style. But I definitely don't want the next Mass Effect to be anything like this film. While Mass Effect has it's lighthearted and comedic moments, it truly is a much grittier and serious fictional universe than that of GoG.
