On Josephine Montilyet's page, it says "she sincerely believes that the Inquisition is the best way to halt the chaos sweeping Thedas."

What other ways are there to halt the etc etc etc?

Leave it to the Grey Wardens?

Wholesale Rite of Annulment?

Coalition of the Willing?

Market forces?

Tea party with Corypheus?

Oh I so hope the last one is an option.

Assembled Leaders: Corypheus, please pass the tea?

Corypheus: THEY SAID THERE WOULD BE LIGHT! (Explodes the table)

Assembled Leaders: I take it that's a no?

But is he committing the unforgivable sin of putting milk in his Earl Grey?

Corypheus is far too urbane for that!

Though given that Tevinter is kinda fantasy rome (slavers, an Imperium), he probably doesn't even know what tea is and will insist on drinking it while hovering on a couch.

Sandal is the key to it all.

"Bodahn's son guide us. Bodahn's son teach us. Bodahn's son protect us. In your light we thrive. In your mercy we are sheltered. In your wisdom we are humbled. We live only to serve. Our lives are yours."

Hovering on a couch is the accepted method of drinking anything, really.  Think about it.  Are you going to argue with the person who's got the couch?  If you're nice, they might move over.  Cory's about as old-school as it gets, and he knows to properly appreciate a fine tea one needs the proper accompaniments.  A bit of biscuit, a hint of sugar, and a butt-load of elemental magic and immortality.  Guaranteed social success.

Yes, but then he starts reminiscing about the good old days, and you just know he's going to go into that lecture about how much better things were when people worshipped Dumat, and then he'll go into PTSD Black City flashbacks again.  Honestly.  It's really not worth the time necessary to see him in his retirement home any more.

Corypheus can reminisce about Dumat all he likes. It beats the hell out of hearing the Chant of Light for the one millionth time.

Yeah, but he probably left it on a bench for Sandal to steal and use against him at a crucial moment.

In the end, if no major organization restores order and halts the chaos its left to the common people to step up to defend themselves and the world they live in. In other words, massive militia uprising.

And they will charge valiantly.  And be butchered valiantly.  And men with tall hats and fob watches will thump their chests and say what a brave charge it was.

Die, pretty much.

I mean, if the Inquisitor is the only one who can close the rifts, then he or she is truly the only one who can stem the tide of bloodthirsty demons constantly populating the world.

Doesn't matter how united the world is, if the demons keep coming, then:

What the heck.  Let the old man ramble and you get free tea and cookies.  If you poke him in the right direction he might tell a story you haven't heard.

Yeah, like why the Black City was already Black.  Or how he survived.

I find it hard to accept that solving this problem depends entirely on the Inquisitor's success.  I mean, what if s/he dies prematurely?  The whole world is eventually overrun?  I don't find a plot whose resolution revolves solely around the success of a single person very compelling.  You'd think that maybe after a few years of research, a group of mages or scholars could figure out a way to deal with the Breach.  Saying that resolving the crisis is completely dependent on the Inquisitor just seems like an easy way to artificially inflate their importance.

I think mages are able to repair veil tears , but it's difficult.

So the Inquisitor and his/her magical hand is very conveniant.

And it seem the Inquisitor is also important as a symbol of faith , he/she is the only one who survived , and some people will want to see a miracle in this.Or not.

I have to imagine that mages as talented as Dorian, Vivienne and especially Solas (considering his familiarity with the Fade) would be able, given time, to re-create the effect that allows the Inquisitor to seal the Veil Tears and Rifts. If the basis of the ability is just a close connection to the Fade, that shouldn't be too hard for experienced Mages to replicate.

Unless the plot prevents them from doing so, that is.

For all the tea jokes, I was thinking about factions. Like, in Origins, Loghain's beef isn't so much that the Blight isn't a real thing as that it's not as important as keeping the Orlesians from re-invading Ferelden.

So in DA:I, you might perhaps have, say, factions of nobles who'd rather suppress an elven uprising and are willing to put up with a few pissy demons to achieve that. Or factions who'd love to get rid of the demons but not if a frickin' Qunari is going to be the one doing it.

Maybe there are factions who would prefer that the Grey Wardens handle the demon issue (demons, darkspawn, same diff), or that their own home-grown mages do it, rather than have the Chantry/Inquisition do it.
