Not certain if this topic has been broached recently (did a quick search and nothing popped up), or if a dev will even read this, but I'd like to recommend a multiplayer... style. If you've watched Assassin's Creed: Unity gameplay, you've probably seen how you can now play the campaign with friends, with them taking on fellow assassin's mantles. I immediately noted how that would potentially fit into a Dragon Age game. Now, as close as Inquisition is to release, I'm not asking for this to be included, but perhaps such an option could be considered for future Dragon Age titles.

My personal "fleshed out" idea would be to have a "multiplayer mode" option that allows you to fill a companion slot with a linked friend. This, of course, would block you off from potential party banter or any of the party mechanics that usually run during the game, not to mention the amazing stories of said party members, so perhaps such a mode would only unlocked after a full single-player playthrough. But with actual people in your party, I feel the gameplay and immersion would only get better. No more tearing out your hair because Varric decides to use an explosive arrow on himself. Heavy decisions could actually be argued over; the host would get the final say, but if you see the practicality of leaving wounded soldiers behind while your friend argues against it, I only see a) an added layer of immersion, and b ) who you can depend on when the zombies come.

What do you folks think?

EDIT: How does one type "b )" (without the space) without it automatically turning into a smiley?

It sounds interesting, but Dragon Age is so heavily story-based (including characters), that I don't see how it could feasibly be done.

Dragon Age is not and probably will never be a multiplayer game.

Personally, I have absolutely no interest in any multiplayer aspect to be implemented.

inqusition will more than likely have a multiplayer component, it will probably be like ME3s multiplayer in that you can play it to get something that has an effect on the inquisitons agents or influence or some such

Personally speaking, while I would welcome a multiplayer component, I'd like the single player and multiplayer to be kept completely separate. Perhaps single player effecting multiplayer but definitely not the other way round.

As for the OP's idea i think it sounds nice but there are a couple of issues I can think of which might come up.

1) what happens when the two PCs give conflicting commands to their followers?
2) due to the fact combat is being made more tactical it can be assumed that there will be more pausing. Surely both PCs wont want to pause at the same time all of the time.
3) what if the guest runs far away from the other player? would they be able to seperate from the party?

But if all of these issues were sorted out, I'd be in full support of this sort of thing.

@Samahi: Indeed, any multiplayer option would require a delicate implementation, this even more so. I have no idea if what I suggested is possible, since, as you said, the game is so story-driven.

@Dubya75: I understand that Dragon Age is made solely for story, which is why I enjoy the franchise so much. Nevertheless, once I've completed the game several times over, it would be nice to be able to fool around with friends who are also invested in the world. A multiplayer option only adds to the replayability of the game.

1) what happens when the two PCs give conflicting commands to their followers?

I was thinking more along the lines of the friend replacing a follower; and I suppose the host would retain control over any npc companions.

2) due to the fact combat is being made more tactical it can be assumed that there will be more pausing. Surely both PCs wont want to pause at the same time all of the time.

Hmm, that would indeed be an issue. In such a case, tactical pausing may have to be sacrificed in order to play with another person.

3) what if the guest runs far away from the other player? would they be able to seperate from the party?

There are a couple things I can think of on the spot for this. They could set it up like one of the lego games where the players can move only so far from each other; they could allow the team to separate so long as everyone stayed on the same map, which would give the obvious advantage of being able to tackle multiple objectives (like saving the village in the Crestwood demo) with the also obvious disadvantage of lessening each sub-team's strength; or they could extend that ability to separate the team to a world scale at some price.

I made a thread about this last night when I joined, it wasn't approved so I won't make it again, but I will say....I have lurked here for a few days before joining.  My main reason was wanting MP info.  I know many here don't want MP in DA and I get that.  And I also agree MP should rarely or NEVER effect SP play in any way unless you play your SP character in MP or something like that.

I think bioware killed it with ME3's MP.  I absolutely loved it as did all of my friends.  I was hoping to  AT LEAST get a "yes" or "no" as far as multiplayer goes.  I mean we were what 3 months from release day until the delay?  I'd like to see what MP they came up with for this series having loved their other MP offering.  There were some issues I would chalk up to "first go round" Like being online...playing and to join a group you have to log all the way out of the game back to main menu and then load all the way back into the MP just to join a group? wtf? but things like that im sure were part of their first attempt and for it to have been that good i want more!

Hmm?  Multiplayer in Dragon Age: Inquisition?  That doesn't sound like a bad-

I got to hand it to the Arishok.  He puts up a compelling argument.  I think I'm going to have to agree with him on this one.
