theres a lot of other reasons to have a demo than that.  Assuming they're telling the truth, I have ZERO issues with a game being delayed so that when I go and pay full price for it I have an actual complete and finished game.  That's a big deal to me.  As a gamer I refuse to buy any more games by DICE or Ubisoft because they always release broken garbage that is a work in progress.  I laughed and laughed and laughed at all of the rage over watchdogs.

Back on topic though, I do think they should let us mess with some character creation and just see a little bit of the game and experience the gameplay...even if its the area we have seen multiple times.  And give us an announcement on multiplayer.

Demos in general reduce sales. You only plat a slice of the game and it needs to be exceptional to increase sales which hardly ever happens.

Also, most times people who want a demo of the game have already bought the game so what benefit is there for a developer to spend time and money on the demo which only reduces profit? And the game got delayed recently likely because of some game breaking bugs, so the last thing one would want is an extra delay for another demo.

And yes, there is a demo of DAI one week before release on the Xbox One but that is a contractual agreement for extra earnings, probably a timed demo and a new console so less likely to end being hacked as happened with DA 2's demo. I do believe the exclusive demo is hypocritical coming from Bioware after admitting demos are bad for sales.

Citation needed.

Also, yes, I am dying for a demo over here.

Would rather not have a playable demo of any kind. That's where all the major spoilers are generally scrubbed out of.  Also, less time taken away from working on the actual game the better!

The best we could hope for is some sort of character creation demo.

They did one for DA 2.  Oh well.

Yes they did a demo for DA2 which many did not feel reflected the whole game. What should the developer highlight in the demo? Should it be a combat demo?  Should it highlight one of the romances or the dialog system? Should it focus on the character creation? What is the best way to highlight the different parts of the game so that the gamer can get an overall feel for it?

The developer can create a demo that I feel does not focus on the part of the game that interests me. So how does the demo help me?

Demos are a massive waste of development resources.  I don't see why any game that already has decent media exposure would ever do one.

Bioware has done demos for every EA game they've made to my knowledge, so it makes sense that they would do one. ME3's demo was released a month before the game came out, so the same might happen (though to be honest I'm not expecting it).

Have you yet found out what the tactics screen even looks like? What about the reaction wheel? The PC UI? How about whether you can seamlessly zoom out of "third-person view" into "tactical view," i.e. it's not a separate camera.

When the "media exposure" includes some of these less-spoken-of features, you might be right.

I have always been on both ends of this fight. AS much as I would like a demo to help me ease the wait, and trust me it would, I'd just mess with it until release date and just screw around, I think that there is no point to it as they've already shown us so much in terms of gameplay and the rest of what they mention will probably be summed up in documentive videos. Thoguh I think it would be harmless to create the demo that they've shown various times at E3 but still, using more resources for a demo can be pointless, especially considering that it's fact that most people who would demand a demo are people who'd buy the game anyway as someone already mentioned before. Still, it would be nice xD

I don't know about that. DA2's demo was the same demo they had been showing off at trade shows. BioWare could do the same for a DAI demo, since it's already been made.

I thought it wasn't a demo, just that those who buy the EA deal thing (I can't remember the name right now XD) for Xbox get to play the actual full game 5 days in advance. I'm going to google it right now, to see if I remember correctly.

EDIT

Hmm, it does seem to be a demo but perhaps it is something like the first 5 hours of the game or something? The article I read mentioned that progress made in the demo carries over to the full game. Still, I think the demos are less to advertise the game itself, and more to make money from the membership passes themselves.

Remember what game manuals used to contain? Not only detailed descriptions of game mechanics, but screenshots of every possible UI element with an explanation of what it did.

They should release that. If we got some decent documentation, we would have all of these answers without the need for a demo.

i would love a demo, but it isnt likely to happen im afraid, a large open world game like this would likely get spoiled, if it was just a case of being put into a small area/ dungeon and trying out the combat system and some trivial non spoilery quest, then yeah, i would be down for that, but that would be a waste of time from the team at bioware since they are focusing all there attention on giving us the best product they can possibly give us. There arent many demos going out these days, you can count on getting some hands on time closer to release i would imagine, but that would only be at a gaming expo like eurogamer later in the year which will be much closer to release

Again--I'll agree with you about a demo WHEN we get some of that stuff (these things haven't seemed to be included in "decent media exposure").

Re demos hurting game sales, I found this:

[T]he average Xbox 360 game sells 525,000 units after six months when released with a trailer but no demo. On the contrary, a game with both a demo and a trailer will only sell about 250,000 units.

http://www.gamespot....h/1100-6410863/

That might be a matter of correlation rather than causation - it's hard to poll players to hear them say "yeah, I was going to buy that game, but then I played the demo and changed my mind" - but I'd think numbers like that would give companies pause, given how much money goes into creating a demo.

I'd love to play a DAI demo to get a feel for the combat differences between classes, but, like Sylvius, I'd rather Bioware put those resources toward making the game itself.

Probably better to agitate for a character creator instead.

probably should get a character creator demo, like how for Saints Row 4 they let you make your leader of the saints character on their site and you could download it into your game so you didn't have to wait until the game to do that.

Gee, that sure makes me think of a similar online feature for Dragon Age! Wouldn't it be great if we could access that similar online feature and download and Keep, heh heh, it on our computers?

I just want to spend hours playing in the character creation. I don't care about game demos, just send out the separate character creator demo tyvm.

Yeah anything that consumer friendly definitely wouldn't be good for business.
