I figured with DA:I only a few months away this would be an interesting topic to see whose made up their minds yet and who hasn't.
What gender, race, and class is your Inquisitor going to be on your first run?
If you haven't decided yet, why not?
If you have decided, why your specific set-up?
Any arguments for a certain set-up given the information thus far about Inquisition?

I try to actually role-play the options I'd make (or want to make) on my first playthrough, and that usually results in being a Human Male Rogue. I'm a little conflicted, though, as I really want to try out so many different races, personalities, and romances. I may sacrifice the standard Human Male Rogue for a Female Elf Mage or Female Qunari Warrior for my first playthrough...
Shouldn't this go in Story, Campaign, and Characters section, though? On that note, I'm sure there's been a few threads about this there already...

My first Inq will be a human male warrior, sword and shield...yes yes very boring i know....do good, save the innocent, punish the wicked, basically the typical cliche hero. in swtor terms a lightsided male jedi guardian hehe.
although i'm tempted to play a mage...but that will have to wait for a later playthrough.

Female Qunari Mage. If at all possible they are going to be a self flagellating wreck who hides in combat and does their best to follow the Qun (Yes, Tal Vashoth I know, but I'm hoping there's a way to be more qunning) by never using their terrible powers or fighting at all, and kill every single potential mage companion. Because I'm an *******.
Seriously I'll probably run a Lavellan Mage/Warrior (Depending on my mood at the time). They'll be tough on mages still (mostly because in DAO and DA2 I tend to be very pro mage and I want to give the anti-mage side a go).

I played female twice in DA2 (I didn't like male Hawke's voice actor), so I'm definately going with male for the first playthrough.
As for race - not a human, and probably not qunari. I have no idea so far, as to how to roleplay a qunari not following the Qun, as apart from fighting nameless guys in DA2, there really was no information about them whatsoever (maybe in books, but so far I haven't read all of them).
Playing rogue in Dragon Age games usually requires extensive knowledge of the combat mechanics (it certainly did in DA:O and DA2), so no rogue.
Therefore either dwarf warrior with weapon & shield, or elven mage.

Either Male Human Warrior or Female Qunari Warrior.
Because I have little interest in playing anything else.

Female Adaar Warrior (Templar). I want to roll a female Qunari largely because we've never seen them before. I'm going for a reasonable but harsh Inquisitor suspicious towards mages.

Dalish she-elf rogue, dual weapon, canon choice for me.

I don't want to be Tal Vashoth. I want to follow the Qun. I would rather be where I was at the beginning of the game to "answer a question" and Sten will welcome me back on a job well done at some point. I get it, because you can't be the leader of the Inquisition and be of the Qun.....but I'd rather get it done with my Qunari than the Inquisition. ![]()
To answer the OP, I'm going to be a 2h Qunari Warrior. I want 6 horns decorated up with gold like the Arishok...and im killing EVERYBODY. I want some type of charge or bash to hit the little flipping dancing rogues sending them down and just slice them on the way down or stab him once they hit the ground gg. Reaver specialization.
I also think I should be able to dual wield 2 handed weapons....but since I can't even dual wield simple daggers as a warrior...................................................................................................................................................................................................

However, at this point, we know so little about the sub class specializations, I am hesitant to commit.

Female Qunari 2-Handed Warrior first then mage and rogue for all classes and races and of course all female characters. I am gonna be playing this game for quite awhile so might as well try every class. I don't play males at all but I am a male gamer though.

I'm gonna be a dwarf woman, a rogue, but I haven't picked my speck yet. Gonna get the feel for what trees I like in inquisition first
Doing it cuz I like dwarves and I like rogues.

Male Qunari Warrior.
Because Struggle is an Illusion. The tide rises, the tide falls, but the Sea is changeless. Victory is in the Qun.
Also, because Male Qunari Warrior is about as badass as you can get. I like that.

Female, Human, Mage - I'm not sure what on what specialization.
I really want to be involved in the mage/chantry conflict my first play through.
Rogue is REALLY calling to me though. If it wasn't for the reason above, rogue would be my first run.

Human or Dalish Male Mage (Knight Enchanter), Human or Qunari Male Warrior (Templar), Dalish Male Warrior (Champion), or Dalish Male Rogue (Assassin)...
I'm undecided, but at least I've narrowed it down a bit... if the game is good, I'll probably wind up doing all of those eventually. Oh, and these combos are all based on potential rps and the fact that I'm interested in these particular specs.

Male, human, rogue. That's my first run because it's always been my first run in the dragon age series. So i can ensure I can open every pesky locked door and chest along the way without having to bring someone along. On the subsequent playthroughs I go through the various options and pick them more or less at random.
As for anything specific on how I intend to build my rogue.... I haven't decided. I don't know enough about the specializations because I have been purposefully keeping myself away from that information. Save for knowing who the companions are, and the overall plot, I like to go into the first playthrough as blind as possible. That way I don't try to use information to meta my way around. That's strictly for my "perfect" playthrough.

For the first playthrough I always choose Human Female Mage, aequitarian (as in DA:O and DAII), that'll be the closest character to me and I can't imagine playing someone else for the first time. Then I'll try Dwarf/rogue and Qunari (haven't decided on class yet). What can I say? Magocracy to everyone!

My first run will be as a male Dalish mage, Revas Lavellan; his vallaslin will bear the symbol of Elgar'nan, God of Vengeance. He will look ethnically Antivan (the closest equivalent to Latino), his faith will be the elven pantheon of the Creators, he will view magic as a gift of the Creators, and he will be a traditionalist (in the sense of avoiding using magic that involves spirits).
He will likely side with the mages in the Mage-Templar War as a means of nullifying the threat the templars pose to the Dalish clans, and he will pursue any option that can dislodge the Orlesian occupation from the Dales.

My first inquisition is going to be Darth Vader based. I am going to roll a male Human warrior with a British accent who, if possible, will side with the Templars and mercilessly hunt down and destroy all the mages "You are a part of the Mage Resistance and a traitor, take her away!" He will sacrifice/destroy anything to fortify his inquisition's position and power base, any that fail him die by way of his glowy hand. "You have failed me for the last time." All shall fear and cower before him. After the Mages are dealt with and the rifts are secure he shall reform the Inquisition into the Thedasian Empire and move to conquer all of Thedas.
If not possible then I'll roll a less dark Darth Vader based character, but as dark a character as the game will let me.
