For the first time, we had a tie for first in the theme poll, so this month's challenge is a combination: "African Adventures" and "Tileset Expansions":

Nyambe - African Adventures: Content could include African arms and armor (including clothing), African-styled placeables, holy symbols

for the Orishas, African-style heads, fantastical creatures from African mythology (such as the demonic ngojama, the vampiric tyerkow, or the reptilian

unthlatu), mundane African animals (elephants, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, wildebeests, baboons, etc.), and classic tropical D&D monsters that have yet to

be made (jackalweres, carnivorous plants, giant frogs and toads, tasloi, bonesnappers, kech, dakons, loxo, froghemoths, hybsil, werecrocodiles, and so

on).

This theme was suggested by Bluebomber4evr.

Tileset Expansions: Grab your favorite bioware tileset and make an extra feature or group.

This theme was suggested by T0r0.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine.  Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32,

    etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits,

or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by September 1st, 2014. Sooner

than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg,

    .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a

    portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want

that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is

nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I'm horrible at merging

those so this bit you will need to provide.

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month's theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to

make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in

its thread here.
When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone,

not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
Vote for September's theme.

Probably for the best, as making tileset components is rather advanced and complicated work compared to most other custom content...

(Tho i voted for tilesets myself)

This theme is probably meant to represent central and southern Africa, correct? It doesn't include Egypt, Carthage, or the Berbers?

To be exact "Nyambe - African Adventures" Is a D20 campaign based on a fictional continent, of course inspired by Africa. However I'm not saying that we should be restricted to what is allowed in that campaign....

So, have we two challenges at the same time, this month? a little odd...

I'd like to see some of the huts and totems from diablo 2 when you first meet the swamp. I'd also like to see some ancient African trees, like Baobab. Maybe some of the north african proto-pyramids would be interesting. Or even a tileset expansion representing Mosi-oa-Tunya. Maybe some very shallow and very muddy waters for a Saharan drinking hole.

So anyone want to create "The Ghost and the Darkness"? (always confuse that title with "The Pen and the Dark" a sci-fi short storey)

<edit> Here's a link to the wikipedia article on Mosi-oa-Tunya = the Smoke that Thunders = Victoria Falls <done editing>

Would some shamanistic style stuff be appropriate? Would love to see some of that, though I imagine some of what I'm thinking of is more native american style.

NWN could always use more ethnic PC heads and clothing. Shemsu-Heru has done quite a few nice Asian heads, but there really aren't that many African heads for males or females. Pretty much the only quality ones I can think of are in Estelindis's old KotOR conversion pack.

Oh well, if we are going with legendary African Creatures, there is a list on wikipedia (this is not meant as an endorsement, other lists are available :) ).

Cool, tileset expansions won as well. Ok so here is my first submission then:

seacave.jpg

Sea cave on water, this actually assumes the water is walkable so player can get there on boat or by swimming.

Anyone considering tileset options should ponder adding too/completing the Savanah Set that was part of the uncompleted CTP stuff.

Wow, awesome, my theme was picked!

I'll post some pictures of monsters and Nyambe culture later.

One thing I'd really like to see is some African wildlife: elephants, hippos, giraffes, wildebeests, baboons, etc.

Ambient gazelles and zebras.

A set of termite mound placeables would be good as well.

Maybe some tribal war masks.
