Shotel.jpg

The shotel, aka sickle-sword.

I have found the 3.5 stats for the shotel at the D&D wiki; And according with that it have the same base attack and critical rating, as well as the category (exotic); Than the bastard sword so I have added it like bastard sword models, also I think that the size of both weapons could be similar....

After examining the Q gorillas, I can now see that the skin is great, and the textures are awesome, but I also see why people might be having issues with the animations. It seems to use a modified cat skeleton, and moves more like a lunging cat. So I will continue to upgrade my own animations and I might even go so far as to wrap the Q model to my bones and re-release that too, if approval is given for such a thing.

Again, the skin and texture are great. I don't know if the skin started out as a copy of the model I am using from freemodels, but its head definitely looks different. It has less polys than mine (which is good), and is tweaked in spots I had not previously considered, such as around the eyes and brow.

If you haven't seen it yet, definitely give it a look. You can find it listed in the q_creatures.hak as c_gorilla/c_gorilla_brown, with textures simply named Gorilla and GorillaB, using Q appearance entries 1336-37.

When it moves, it kinda looks like a rubber kid's toy, and because the bones are just sticks, it gives a bad shadow (or none at all), so I gotta improve on that, otherwise, great model.

The fixed attack and run animations are amusing at best. They need fine tuning, but otherwise combat looks just fine. He never seems to use his close hit. I may need to move the double-fist-down attack to another more-used slot. We'll see. Maybe if I just change the preferred attack distance/personal space values, it will fire more often.

Just going to finish up the other anims, omitting a few at first, like casting cycles. I may need them to be specific looking for the Bar-Lgura alternate skin.

Permission granted all of Project Q's newer stuff is open source.

Alright, I've collected some sounds for use in soundsets for a few animals: hyenas, elephants, crocodiles, gorillas, hippos, and rhinos.

Since the old Vault is down and the tutorials with it, I've gone with this tutorial: http://ccg.animecafe...art_3_VoiceSets

I have a question about .tlk entries in soundsets, however. Would it be feasible to use the existing CEP tlk entries for the STRREFs, even though the CEP uses those for appearance names? Would that cause a problem? It seems like it's just a text label, but I've never created a soundset before, so I want to make sure.

Hunga%20Munga.jpg

Hunga Munga is just one of the names for this throwing weapon. It's designed to hurt the enemy no matter what edge of the weapon hits on them. I have added this as throwing-axes.

Mangbetu.jpg

The Mangbetu "knife" was originally used as a weapon of war and an agricultural implement. They later developed into luxury items to provide symbols of status.

Mangbetuscale01.jpg

I have added it as sickle models; because both weapons have similar size, as well as a similar curved blade; Also both of them were farming tools originally....

DAMN!

(Add a few more damns until five or six lines are obscured by them).

Though Irish on my mother's side, I'm African (Nigerian) on my father's side - in so much as anyone ever accused me of being human at all - and I've got loads of African stuff I've done for NWN over the years. Kraal huts and totems, assorted creatures, etc... all of it in need of a little love and attention. And I had it all neatly stacked awaiting the month the African theme came up on the CCC. And what happens?

I'm contracted to make a load of huge, life-size models of prehistoric mammals which is going to devour all my time at present. I'm just back here briefly to pick up some supplies we forgot to haul over to the studio and I've got a bald, somewhat featureless but already quite intimidating, sixteen foot Andrewsarchus looming at me...

Don't get me wrong, this work is fascinating and with the moulds I can MAKE A SECOND ANDREWSARCHUS FOR MYSELF - though where I'm going to put it amidst all the other beasts in the collection I have NO idea... but I didn't want to miss the African theme. Wish it had been just Tilesets now and Africa next month. I'm never going to finish the Andrewsarchus and the Glyptodont before the end of this month... and then there are other beasts to do, but there's more time available for them...

Rrrrrgh! I wish I hadn't voted for it now. Damn.

Just felt compelled to comment morosely.

There's always room for an addendum later on to add extra content to a theme, PHoD. :)  I'd like to see what you come up with for African themed stuff.

I'd also like to see pictures of your finished "real life" model work on those critters. :)

@Carcerian Now I may have misunderstood, but I thought this month's theme was for Sub Saharan Africa (i.e. to the south of the sahara desert).

You may have, yes.... :P

Nyambe - African Adventures: Content could include African arms and armor (including clothing), African-styled placeables, holy symbols

for the Orishas, African-style heads, fantastical creatures from African mythology (such as the demonic ngojama, the vampiric tyerkow, or the reptilian

unthlatu), mundane African animals (elephants, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, wildebeests, baboons, etc.), and classic tropical D&D monsters that have yet to

be made (jackalweres, carnivorous plants, giant frogs and toads, tasloi, bonesnappers, kech, dakons, loxo, froghemoths, hybsil, werecrocodiles, and so

on).

To be exact "Nyambe - African Adventures" Is a D20 campaign based on a fictional continent, of course inspired by Africa. However I'm not saying that we should be restricted to what is allowed in that campaign....

Done with the animation except casting cycles and fine tuning. I've bent and scaled Draygoth's lower poly gorilla model to wrap around my freemodel gorilla bones. It has an appear animation meant to be used up against a tree. The gorilla will start 20 meters up a tree and begin a spinning swing down to the ground, going around the trunk about twice. I haven't defined a disappear animation.

The textures on the brown and black are also Dragoth's packaged textures. The gray one, while not yet perfect, represents an ancient gorilla. I was thinking to do an albino, but the lighting/smoothing on the skin is screwing it up. I may have to tweak the shininess level for the texture to show proper contrast. I also modified the smoothing groups and reduced the amount of tverts. For some reason, the Q version had all tFaces detached. I happened to spot them while trying to determine what was wrong with the conversion to TGA from the packaged DDS files.

The run animation still has a bit to go, but the rest seem to be good. The gorilla does not really take an active bounce in combat, so I decided to just model him as such. He just kinda moves here and there and kinda just swats people really hard. If I could have done close combat/wrestling moves, that would have looked nicer.

He's got head-look which is decent, though I may reduce the range of motion since he has a neck node which is pretty large.

Draygoth and project Q still get the credit for the model. All I did was rescale it, move the arms, and redo the animation.
