Eh?  Usually when I'm looking forward to a game and I have the money, I pre-order.  The bonuses don't matter.  I don't get this guy's rage.

Maybe you have too much money and don't care if your purchase will be a success or failure?

He's mad because the bonuses are getting more and more integral to the game not about preordering itself. Cutting out large chunks of the game for pre order only. It's a disgrace and the idea of Gamestop exclusive gameplay horrifies me.

As a consumer, I know that I and the retailer are the only ones who benefit from getting a 60 dollar game used for 25 dollars. I can't blame game companies for wanting to make as much money as they can from their huge investments. I see these extras as a thanks to customers for taking a chance rather than an insult to a customer who really wasn't going to help them anyways. You can never be sure if you are going to truly enjoy a purchase.

Yup. They're just getting more and more daring with the shenanigans they're trying to pull. That Alien Isolation thing is absolutely ridiculous, to the point that I'd feel a little bad even purchasing it now and not upholding my convictions, as much as I'm looking forward to the game.

Besides, 'poison' is a pretty apt metaphor. As I'm sure my 360 will testify, having had a day one copy of Aliens: Colonial Marines put in its disk drive.

Sorry, but as an independent consumer, I choose what and how I make purchases; not popularity, culture, etc. While I do not commonly pre-order games, Bioware has presented a couple of exceptions, and have no reason to watch this vid.

I only pre-order games I know I will want to play even if others think it sucks.

And by others, I mean every major Western Hemisphere game reviewer.

Thank god for Jim.

Personally I don't see much point in pre-ordering, especially if you're buying digital as it's not like Steam is going to run out of copies.

The general issue that I do have with companies is that they continually try to screw those who choose not to pre-order something in hopes of forcing them into doing so. Those attempts just become more and more anti-consumer all the time, and now they're talking about cutting out actual content from the game and withholding it from anybody who doesn't pre-order.

So yeah, screw those people.

Does this also apply to those who have given money to the Kickstarter projects?

I personaly think that pre ordering bonus or rewards is bad myself,Dont get me wrong I do it but I dont say "dont do it its evil"I just think its a bad marketing practice. Mostly because of games like rome 2 or Two worlds or recently Sacred 3. Those games where like "these games are awesome!want more awesome stuff? Pre order today!" and then the game was bad

If I know I'm buying day one without looking at reviews, then I might as well preorder and get a few small bonuses.

Why would I buy day one? Because there are certain series and developers that I like enough that I want to form my own opinion about the new game without listening to whatever the internet hivemind tells me.

Exactly.  And if I'm not interested in a game on release day, it doesn't matter what pre-order bonus they offer.  I'm not getting it.

I used to pre-order games, mostly because there were games that I wanted to play day one and the store I got my games from didn't get hard copies of PC games unless they were pre-ordered.  Now with Digital downloads, discount sites that have sales on games pretty soon after release there really is no reason to fork over $60.00 before I see the product.

I remember after DA2 I didn't pre-order ME3.  I ended up getting the game for cheap after release, and all the pre-order stuff, the art book, soundtrack, hoodie, robotic dog, etc, I got for $5 as a digital deluxe upgrade. So what reason was there to pre-order?

Now if this Alien: Isolation thing is true, as much as I love anything Aliens, I will not be buying that game pre-order or otherwise, that's absolute BS.  Here I thought Javik and Sebastian were bad.

When I was younger(i.e.:No job), I would preorder because it allowed me to put a down payment and just add to it later, so I wouldn't be stupid and not forget to save money for it.

If you pre-order from a good company, you support a good company. Just don't pre-order from bad companies. It's that simple.

I typically don't pre-order, though it's mainly because I'm in no danger of the product being unavailable when it's released, but I'm not really opposed to doing it in general, because if I intend to get the game upon release no matter what, I might as well just pay for it now if I can afford it. I trust that BioWare will still exist for the next few months, and I have faith that they'll give me a game that I like, so whatevs.

That is even more riskier and stupid.

Why is that stupid?

Reminds me of this

Honestly, it's not worth it unless you trust the developer. I usually wait for reviews, look up what people say in Steam forum and get it on sale. If I really want the game I buy it a few days after release.

Because of the number of failed or scam KAPs.

I usually preorder because I'm too excited to get my game to wait for the reviews and price drops etc. PLUS I love all the bonuses I get ;)

Does Alien: Isolation even have to do anything with Ellen Ripley, I thought it was her daughter? I get  the anti-pre order crowd and I agree that pre order bonuses are getting out of hand. But in the specific case of A:I, I agree that it's nonsense but It doesn't seem that bad compared to what other games have pulled. Metro Last Light and the ranger mode fiasco.........

That being said I still preorder games from time to time and the bonuses hardly ever interest me. I just do it because I would have gotten it at day one anyway. But I suppose I'm part of "the problem".

But we should remember that as consumers our actions have consequences

;)

I can see where's coming from. With bigger companies, EA probably being the biggest example, DLC is becoming less of actual add-on content and more of stripped content being re-added. For example, The Sims 4 won't have pools or toddlers, because they're being released later. I'm not a big Sims fan myself, but that's a complete scam for DLC. DLC needs to be what it originally was, expansions. Not content that the developers rip out then "generously" give us back later for huge fees.

Don't pre-order folks, unless you really have faith in the company won't screw you over. Only game I've pre-ordered this year is Witcher 3.
