The Witcher 3 is pre-order done right.

Alien: Isolation is pre-order done wrong, same goes for Middle Earth:SoM.

I'll buy the DLC whenever the game is out and certified as a good game, I'm a huge ALIEN fan but that pre-order garbage is sickening.

Gamers are reasonably irrational and silly, as far as consumer groups go.

Most awesome, most discussed games are most always those we get to imagine without having to play them; Great deal of people get more excited about waiting for a game, than they will on playing the game itself.  It is a pretty idiotic turn for gaming-scene to take.

There are dozens of net sites, youtube personalities, gaming magazines to review the game you are waiting for once it is out.  Thanks to Internet, you get gameplay footage, reviews and analyzis within few hours of release.  Most people are pretty good in keeping finger on pulse of fan hyberbole after release; you get a good idea of how people like you are finding the game. Yet, millions throw this away happily enough because " Hey, I want to show This International megacorporation my support! :) " and because "My character  really, really needs that awesome exclusive  horse armor I guess!" It is just stupid as hell.It is always a stupid decision to pre-order a game. It enables and encourages even perfectly legitimate  studios to occasionally pull utter scams off, such as Colonial Marines or DA2. It encourages publishers to keep slicing their games to DLCs more and more severely. It removes you, as consumer all the wealth of pretty awesome tools and aids available for you thanks to net.

For a habitual pre-orderer person, review is not a helpful tool on deciding whether game should be bought. Instead, it is an argument to support or fight; Pre-orderer wants somebody to tell him that giving money on product he has no clue off paid off and was a smart decision. If reviewer or meta-critic score imply othrerwise, it is not something to take advice of, but something to disagree about, regardless of if pre-orderer person has even played the game yet.

...And yet,  I guess we all do it now and then. I never pre-order and find the thought insulting. Yet, I was happy enough to throw money at Project Eternity and Star Citizen. That'seven more Premature than Preordering.;p  Chris Roberts would make an awesome used cars salesman.

This disease is even more severe whenever Sony or MS manage to pop a new gen console out. Literally millions of people are perfectly happy to stand in line in day 1, buying a new gaming machine solely for games that may or may not begin appearing within next couple of years.

I very very rarely preorder. I only preorder shiit that has never let me down before. Elder Scrolls and Zelda games are prime examples of that.

Other than that, preordering shiit is a bad move. I'd rather get reviews of said game from someone I trust.

Like DA:I, not touching it until I've actually heard some good stuff about it. But even then, I'm just going to wait until it goes on sale most likely.

If I like what I hear and see about an upcoming game, I will preorder. If I'm unsure about a game, I usually wait till after the release to decide to get the game or not.

The only reason to pre-order is the bonus, everything else is just for irrational or emotional reasoning, which I feel is a bigger poison then preorders.

The game wont sell out, the money wont benefit the company anymore then if you waited a week to buy new, and if you're not sure you'd like the title you can either try to rent or wait till the price becomes reasonable. Because lets be honest, you dont need the game right away and waiting a couple months won't kill you for a game you're just so-so about.

And if you're ars strapped cash you aught to be doing your purchase this way anyway or be focusing on saving your money up for investment so you can get a nest egg going. You shouldn't be dropping 60 plus for a game in the forst place.

The only reason to buy new or preorder is if you know you'll love this game, and if you can afford to take the hit.

It was Mass Effect 3 that broke the straw of this camel's ( metaphorically speaking ) back. All the different retailers that were offering exclusive unique weapons and armour if you pre ordered the game with them. That was sickening to watch, in a strange sort of way it was like a different SKU for each individual retailer and the side effect was that you felt like you were missing out on something important because you pre ordered your version from another retailer. I pre ordered my Collectors Edition of ME3 from GAME and that initially worked out in my favour since they were offering the N7 Valkyrie assault rifle which I wanted, then GAME started having financial trouble and they were no longer able to stock EA games ( they would later go into administration ) so my pre order was cancelled and I was told to take my business elsewhere since they would not be stocking ME3 at all. I was able to secure a pre order for the Collectors Edition of ME3 at GameStop at the 11th hour but I always felt like I was cheated out if my N7 assault rifle, like it was something that I was entitled to and it was stolen from me through no fault of my own.

Then there was the ME3 game itself which was such a bitter disappointment to me. After ME3 I told myself I would never pre order another game again because I can no longer afford to spend €60.00+ on something on blind faith alone, I need reviews that I can trust to determine if a game is worth the time, the money and the effort.

You shouldn't pre-order Creative Assembly games, they are broken on release almost a 100% of the time.

The only (non-digital) pre-order I've ever done in my life was Mass Effect 3 and I regret it immensly.

The cost for bringing the game from the USA here to my country was abhorrently high and it didn't meet my expectations.

I'm pre-ordering Inquisition for xbox 360. I set aside a small amount from each paycheck to get it for myself as something fun to enjoy with my best friend for once instead of just using what little money I earn for survival necessities all the time.

No, and neither does any other sane person. His gimmick sucks unless you're 14-21 or something. And he admits in his video that he parrots Totalbiscuit.

Too many companies spend more effort making their game look good rather then making it actually good. I especially can't stand when they create entire cinematics for outside the game like in ME3's case.

I don't pre-order anymore, ME3 was the straw that broke the camels back and I don't particularly want to support the day 1 DLC or exclusive content mentality that's infected the games industry either.

I can wait until I get the all clear from sources I actually trust.
