Elves don't have to be 'hot' per se, and I don't mind them looking different from the norm like Bethesda.  However, I'd rather they not look anorexic.  When I saw the head shot of the female elf inquisitor I said that's decent, didn't hate it, didn't love it.  But then someone posted more of a full body shot and I just said shook my head, and wanted to tell her to take her finger out her mouth.

DA elves aren't supposed to be alien, they are humans with pointy ears, and should stay like that.

They clearly are not, otherwise they would have.

But really, what can an elf do that a human cant? I mean Dwarves are resistant to magic and lyrium and that is something unique to the dwarves. What's unique to elves? Other than the ears and height of course.

Wouldn't all that neck exercise make their necks thick

In normal cases, yes, however, Orleasion biology is anything but. It is currently unknown why, but their necks are resistant to thickening. Some speculate that it has to do with all the neck massages they receive from their servants, I am in the camp of it being because thick necks would take more effort to lift and as we all know the nobility hates putting out effort.

As others have said the TES are supposed to be strange and alien, like the Bosmer eat each other because they wont eat plants and the Altmer are basically if Tolkien-esque elves were Nazis.

DA elves aren't supposed to be alien, they are humans with pointy ears, and should stay like that.

Well they don't exclusively eat each other, they are just entirely carnivorous. They are required, however, to eat any enemy they slay within three days(family may help with the meal). There's also the whole "Wild Hunt" thing, which makes them consume everything until there's nothing left but to eat themselves.

Fail. In TES Mer are weird, unique, and foreign.

The main form of transportation in Morrowind are gigantic fleas called silt striders. Dunmer there worship Daedra openly. In Orsinium Orcs, or Orsimer, use giant centipedes as mounts. In the Summerset Isles all their architecture is made of crystal. The Altmer are huge proponents of eugenics and most of them have lived their lives exactly like their parents before them dating back to the creation of Mundus. Bosmer who are born and live in Valenwood are all cannibalistic through a pact made with their patron god Y'ffre to not harm any plant life.

You can keep your generic Tolkein carbon copies.

AGREED!

Can we please have our trusty old Tolkien-esque and very sexable elves back??... Pretty please, with a raspberry on top? :'(

They are back.

People who want goblins as elves should go play WoW or something else that has goblins in...

DA2 elves should have been renamed into goblins. There was nothing unique about them either as the pic below shows.

I didn't care for the DA2 look, but I liked that they were trying to further distinguish the elves from humans.  It wasn't to my taste but I appreciated the effort.

Except what they did to Zevran. I didn't appreciate that at all...

I can't be 100% sure about DAI yet, but they seem to have found a nice balance between the Origins and DA2 look.

When have TES elves ever been hot?

Never. Bethesda didn't really change anything with Skyrim.

I dunno. I thought I made a pretty cute Dunmer in Oblivion. :P

There also seem to be elves everywhere you look in games, even if they aren't called that.

I might be in the minority here but I think it makes sense to have elves that look homely, elves that are absolutely gorgeous physically in every way, elves that are flawed but still beautiful, elves that are just average, etc etc. I would prefer every race to have many different types of looks to them and not just a bunch of supermodels or purely ugly. It's more believable to me you would have a race full of genetic diversity inside it. I think it's important to feel like you can relate to characters in a Bioware game and appearance certainly helps with that attachment to their personalities.

Is that top pic a recent rendering of elves in DAI? I remember seeing that but not with the color inside the concepts. Don't think I've seen this screenshot anywhere before.

I found both Zevran and Fenris attractive. I find Solas attractive. Must be the ears.

If they're just humans with pointy ears then they shouldn't even be called elves. Because they're just humans. With pointy ears. I mean jfc do you think gingers aren't humans?

No wonder Bioware did what they did with the Asari.

Elf: a supernatural creature of folk tales, typically represented as a small, elusive figure in human form with pointed ears, magical powers, and a capricious nature.

Looks like the world disagrees with you.

No wonder Bioware did what they did with the Asari.

Reminds me of my own made up elves in Dragon's Dogma. Elves in mine have some strange features while still looking very human. They have hearts that are much bigger than usual proportionally to their bodies which lets their blood pump a much higher efficiency so that their muscles are almost impossible to tire, have very tucked in muscles that don't look that impressive but in fact makes even an average elf stronger than a very athletic human, their ears give them an unparalleled sense of balance that makes them capable of full-on sprinting on thin railings and stuff that are hundreds of feet up without even a spec of fear. They also have a natural affinity for chi, which lets them do some crazy feats (my lore has the assassin vocation as being an elven one, and the assassin specific skills are things only elves in my lore can do with their chi control).

Their hair and eye colors are strange to humans. They're typically some shade of green and their eyes are green too... But at a shade that is impossible for humans. And elves that have attained master of their chi actually obtain glowing green eyes. They also have a very strange yellowish or greenish blush on their cheeks. They physically resemble human 12 year olds or so even though they live as long as an Asari from ME. So these elves look like our 12 year olds are physically stronger than humans are, so it's quite possible for an elven girl to pick up an annoying human that is 3x her size and weight and chuck him several feet with little effort. Of course it's not to say they're completely superior, they're also very small. That means they're quite easy to knock around and vocations like fighter and warrior are not really feasible for them because the equipment is too heavy for them so they have to stick to lighter vocations. They also completely suck at magic, whereas humans are significantly more capable with it than elves are (humans are the ones behind the magic archer vocation).

Want a pic?

This pic strongly shows the blush-

This is a dark shot to show her eyes glowing in the dark, having maxed out the assassin vocation-

Not sure why I posted this. This thread just made me want to go on a tangent about my own self-made elves in a game with the best character creator ever.

I think much of the fuss comes from the fact that according to DA lore as referenced in game b both events and dialogue DA elves are supposed to be considered very attractive to humans and with the exception of select characters they are pretty much gross looking in DA2.  Like lusting after a deer. ewww. But maybe theodosian humans are into that IDK. All I do know is most elves in DA2 were gross looking.

"Elves are supposed to be hot"? Says who?  You make it sound like Tolkien's elves were the law of how to make elves or something. :P I myself liked the elves' look in DA2. They were noticeably not human instead of smaller humans with pointy ears. Except for Zevran. His makeover to a more elvhen look didn't translate well, in my opinion. Not that it couldn't have been done, but they did miss the mark there I think. Though I didn't find any of them hot, I appreciated that they looked different. If every medium and every franchise made elves modeled after Tolkien's, then they'd be accused of being copycats and ripoffs - I really don't see how the devs will ever "win" this debate. So it's far better to make elves the way they feel like making them, rather than trying to emulate someone else in order to cater to fantasy ideal. There's no such thing as a "correct and proper true elf".

I love elves no matter what they look like (even when they're technically not elves, *cough* faeries, Na'vi, etc. etc.) but I will admit to liking them most when they're statuesque and beautiful :P
