Well DA elves suck worse than a spoiled thanksgiving dinner in the character department. Seriously, WHY THE HELL ARE THEY SO PATHETIC and subordinate to humans? Elves are supposed to be superior. No, here they just happily bend down lick human boots. What.

Humans who are inferior to elves still don't stoop to being that pathetic.

They are pathetic because the Humans have constantly crushed their collective spirit, in addition to that they don't know their entire culture. Culture can be a powerful weapon, imagine what not having one or fully knowing would be like.

If they were real elves, they would never have been crushed. They would have crushed THEM like mashed potatoes.

If they're just humans with pointy ears then they shouldn't even be called elves. Because they're just humans. With pointy ears. I mean jfc do you think gingers aren't humans?

That's like saying zebras shouldn't be called zebras because they're just horses (or donkeys) with stripes.

There doesn't have to be much of visual difference between species for them to be actual, different species.

Not to go off-topic, but It's hard to say what Morrigan looks like at this stage of the game's development. Bioware has been known to iterate on character's faces over and over again right up until the release date, and so far, she has undergone at least three or four changes. I'm hoping that the final product is something close to the first screenshot below:

Yeah, I like the trailer Morrigan way better than the third one.

I hope they show an up close view of the Elven Inquisitors. I mean, so far, DA:I Elves look like they have pretty faces and spaghetti for bodies. Their bodies look like Salarians, very thin and elongated.

Wonder how that is going to work out if a Elf choose to go Bull-Riding or be a Two Handed Warrior.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I happen to think concave chests are sexy.

I say make elves more distinct. Just because the codex says that humans of Thedas find elves generally attractive does not mean that they have to conform to any of our modern ideas about beauty. The idea of beauty changes from culture to culture and with time too (just look at what was considered an attractive woman in the 20's... :x).But what does stay the same is that exotic is viewed as sexy. To the humans of thedas, elves look exotic and alien, yet familiar. Therefore, DA elves=sexy  (at least the DA2 variants >.>).
Here, have a sexy and alien elf:

I hate superior Elves. They have nothing, that makes them better than Humans - they are smaller, not as robust and lower in Population. Real Humans crush Elves. Real Dwarves crush Elves. I like to see Elfs crushed. That's why I like them in Dragon Age and don't like them anywhere else. That's why I'm sympoathetic towards them in Dragon Age and crush them anywhere else.

But often times the elves have far stronger magic to compensate their physically weaker builds. Yeah they're weaker, but also better at incinerating your ass. I'd call that a fair trade.

Unless it's elves in my Dragon's Dogma lore. They suck at magic, yet are physically amazing... Kinda inverted that, didn't I?

In fantasy Warhammer it's the other way round. Elves are the masters and humans the scum. We need Tyrion and Teclis in DA.

It's just thin. Morrigan's neck is even worse, and she's human.

Women in DAI appear to just have really thin necks by default. Damn giraffes everywhere.

Aaand now I will never unsee.  Thanks.

Umm.. well the inquisitor doesn't count since each individual person can make him/her to their liking.  But Sera :(  Sadly they outdid themselves once again with how ugly they can make a character. The haircut is horrible. But  bioware was able to top themselves again  with Cole  . Too bad hes not an elf though.

I saw this referenced somewhere but I would second that opinion, which is just that it's not just about hot elves although attractiveness is important.

It's really they're whole culture being ripped into shreds in a bad way, if you are going to screw with something from Tolkien or D&D make it Dwarves or fairies or treants or something. Elves and their concept of high culture and extreme power is the most resilient and enduring element of the universe of fantasy. If they were going to spun any direction, it should of been up, such that they ruled the entire DA universe, not down.

Honestly I got excited about DA:I solely based on concept of art at Sera which made it seem like maybe they were going in that direction.

I like how DA took classic fantasy elements and put them on their heads. Dwarves are like typical fantasy dwarves, except they're practically going extinct and they're so mired in tradition and their cast system that their whole society is a train wreck. Elves are downtrodden and second class citizens instead of being the usual cliched "high and mighty elves". Mages are not the wise wizards they are in standard fantasy, they're ultra feared and prejudiced against and are big demon targets and are locked away in prisons all their lives. If you don't appreciate how this series takes what you typically expect from a fictional race and inverts it, I have to wonder exactly how you appreciate the series at all.

In terms of how elves look in Inquisition, I have no idea, I've not seen enough yet. They said they're likely to introduce a CC video, and I'll save my judgments till then. As for not being the premier race on Thedas... so? Not every race should be limited to Tolkien's imaginings of them. That's exactly how the fantasy realm has often been coined as derivative. Just because elves have been depicted one way, doesn't mean a writer should limit himself to depicting them the same way. Explore, have fun, create! If they hadn't, it wouldn't be Dragon Age.

Er....Morrigans hair is covering part of her neck, which is already elongated due to Morrigan raising her chin, and then exaggerated with her raising her right shoulder while keeping her left relaxed to simulate a posture.

It looks pretty normal to me.

A Racist Elf, now I've seen it all ;)

^^

I agree that the elven submissiveness gets on my wits (hell, even the Dalish are only proud, while stagnating...they hang on to past glory and sit on their high horse while slowly dwindling away...I don't understand why they don't go somewhere in the mountains (or somewhere the larger kingdoms don't have an interest in) and build another city and start being a people again, instead of being refugees/vagabonds who lose more of their culture every single day)...but with the city elfs I can understand it:

They have been brought up like this (!), they don't know anything else and even as second class citizens, their lives are not that bad (if they find work in high houses - servants there live better lives than farmers or most craftsmen in smaller towns!)

greetings LAX

ps: Still, it says no where that elfs need to be superiour to humans (in fact I mostly dislike works of fiction that say a certain race is superior to another by default...it makes for boring fights, if the humans always lose for example!)
