So while it is bad to use it as psychology, its a great trope for characterization in storytelling, and an easy way to create diverse casts.
And while Mass Effect has more than 4 or 5 main cast members, most can easily be classified as one of the five temperaments.
As for Shepard, I think the Paragon version is quite leukine (a balance of the four temperaments) but Renegade is as choleric as they come.
The deuetragonists seem to be melancholic. Liara Is as melancholic as they come, especially in Mass Effect 3, where she thinks that Shepard and crew could fail and doubts from time to time whether they would succeed. Miranda Lawson also is very melancholic...introverted and quite reserved. Steve Cortez also goes here. So does Commander Bailey.
This series is full of cholerics, Wrex most definitely, also Mordin, Jack, Zaeed, Aria, and Javik. I consider Ashley and Grunt to be a mix between choleric and sanguine. Oh boy Kai Leng is as choleric as they come, so a villain example.
Joker is most definitely the biggest sanguine example. James ends up being this, oh god Kasumi, Samantha Traynor, another example. Ashley tends toward this, especially in ME3, so this explains her content in ME3. Rasa "Brooks" may be a villain example.
This series is full of phlegmatic characters....Kaiden, Tali, Jacob, Samara, Thane, Kelly, EDI, The Illusive Man, Dr Chakawas, Eve, Nyreen, Legion, even Saren. They seem to be the most common temperament
For Garrus, I have seen moments of all four temperaments with him. He is more towards a leukine character.
So mainly, Bioware writes a lot of phlegmatic and choleric characters, with sanguine less of. I have noticed this in most of their games. Bioware seems to write very few melancholic characters, but in Mass Effect, they got the biggest roles.
