Damn. Out of likes. That last bit in particular.

Put it on your 'To Do' list and get back to it tomorrow.

And edit/update your reference post while you're at it. ;)

But, more seriously, if there's any deity in the Dragon Age pantheon that I suspect is a mis-atribution of other forces and actors, it would be the Maker. We have pretty compelling reasons to believe the Old Gods existed. We know the Archdemons do (though how we know which old God became which Archdemon is always a mystery to me). I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the elven gods were spirit hierarchies or being semi-related to Flemeth.

But the idea of one god-being being religious for another, who may or may not exist? Too good to pass up.

If Jesus returns to Earth and is raised as a Scientoligist, you heard it here first.

If Andreste is the reincarnation of Dumat, the God of Silence, why is she credited as a singer who is so wonderful the Maker fell in love with her?

It's come up before and I haven't come up with a reasonable/credible rebuttal. Delicious irony?

The Old Gods do "sing" though. It's how the darkspawn find and taint them.

Pulling ideas from thin air...

Maybe Dumat was ashamed of his singing talents and so hid them behind a veil of silence?

Was the Old God of Silence someone who never talked... or someone whose voice was touching that no one could bear speak after hearing it?

How did he manage to tell the Magister's to get their butts to the Golden City if he was mute?

Perhaps the DA:O Warden was the real reincarnation of Dumat. That would explain how I was able to have conversations without ever talking.

You know what would be funny? If a game set in Tevinter exposed the player to a cult or secret society dedicated to Dumat only for the player to later realize that they're the staunchest supporters of Andrastianism and the Imperial Chantry.

Eh, not so sure that would work well, unless it was a deceit from the cult leader and his/her useful idiots.

I do think there should be a cult for the Old God Baby in the future, though.

If I recall, dragons are only as smart as non-mabari dogs.

Actually, Dumat wasn't silent at all. It was his acolytes who undertook vows of silence, hence the name.

I like the theory of reincarnation. It would explain a lot and make the "Bride of the Maker" thing hilarious.

"Silence" came from the practices of Dumat's worshipers, not the god himself.

Considering humans are animals.... I'd say its a safe bet that dragons are animals too ಠ_ಠ

Personally, i prefer the idea that Dragons, True Dragons, are very very intelligent. As intelligent or more so then a scholarly human, and significantly more skilled in magic. But also arrogant, easy to bore, easy to anger, and very similar in temperament to cats.

But, I believe that the dragons in Dragon Age are just smart flying lizards. At least thats how they have been described, and how they act in game.

My personal theory, however, is that what we see in game are not true dragons. Just beasts that look and act similar. Personally, i believe that the Old Gods were the "True Dragons" I mentioned above. I also believe Flemmath is a True Dragon as well.

But, what do i know?

I suspect Dragon Age dragons are warm blooded, so not lizards or reptiles.

They're also giant hexapods, which suggests they don't fix any real world biological classification.

It was a figure of speech.

They are neither lizards, reptiles, nor hexapods. They are Dragons.

They defy classification by their very nature.

I count 4 legs. Not six.

Also, they aren't insects. Or Arthropods i suppose.

Gaider said somewhere in the past that dragons weren't sentient (or sapient. I never know the difference).

I personally don't think what we currently have to go off of supports that, but then I'm also influenced by my own beliefs regarding animals and their intelligence (which is to say, I don't accept a lot of things people say about them and their intelligence and stuff like that).

You're missing the wings. Wings are appendages. Look at birds, they don't have forelegs, they have wings, or another way to put it is, their wings are their forelegs. Dragons wings are legs.

Thus Hexapod (6 Appendages).

From what I remember they have been said to be as smart as an animal can be and still considered "an animal".

They have been compared to dolphins in intelligence.

Also been compared to a Mabari for intelligence.  And Mabari are pretty darn intelligent for animals.  That being said; even real life dogs can be pretty intelligent.

So dragons seem to understand language but we also have a girl being able to control dragons after undergoing a ritual involving the drinking of drake blood in "Dawn of the Seeker".

It could just be a more primitive version of that spell being done by the cults and Yavanna.

Of course; Andraste* seemed to be able to calmed down by Kolgrim but since he is part of the cult/pack that is allowed to sacrifice the occasional spawn than its possible that she could be convinced that the Warden is a new member of the pack* so to speak.

So working under the general assumption of "animal intelligence" where does that leave it.  The capacity to use basic "tools", figure out "medicine", use tactics, lie, learn things by watching others and do sign language/learn some words.

That and all the tricks etc....that can be taught to animals.

Uh huh.

Then riddle me this Batman. If a fly is a hexapod, and flys have wings, why aren't the octopods?

Also "-pod" literally means "foot".

And birds are considered bipeds.

Further, your statement implies human beings are quadrupeds because we have two arms and two legs.

The prosecution rests.
