I was replaying BG recently (wanted to see how the vanilla played, therefore no Tutu, therefore Viconia's magic resistance is a never ending pain in my ass) and I realized how much I liked the conditional auto-pause feature.

Is it too late to add auto-pause conditions to the game? After attacks, after spells, after big boss moves? That's something that IMO would greatly help with tactics.

Yes please. I always miss the pause on spell cast and target death. I'm not sure why they stopped including them.

The auto-pause features in BG were fantastic.  Auto-pause on:

Out of ammo

Target death

Character death

Enemy sighted

Trap detected

End of round

Those were my standard settings.  I'd love something similar for Inquisition.

I agree and more conditions - better.

I submitted this question for the combat Q/A, we'll see if they answer it.  But from what I've seen of the tactical camera I think auto-pause could make a big comeback.  The things I would LIKE to auto-pause on would probably be pretty weird, though.  I'd like an auto-pause to be able to be set so that it only pauses when your non-selected characters hit the conditions.  So if my current character switches targets, no pause, but if one of my companions changes targets, pause, so I can catch them before they run off to Timbuktu and get killed by pulling a ton of aggro.

Not having played BG, this sounds great. I would almost rather have a customized system of pauses than a customized tactics setup, and I love messing with my party's tactics settings.

I'll add that I want more tactics conditions, too. In the IE games (at least some of them) you could set thieves to automatically search for traps, then disarm them or open locks.

I remember them detecting trap but not disarming them automatically. When it comes to the trap detection my usual issue is the radius for detecting them tends to be too small. My experience is (unless you have been there before) you tend to near the traps to stop safely. It has more to do with the AI party member stepping to the trap.

Overall I am not all that for or against it. I am good with being able to pause as I want or feel I need to.

I'm not sure how I would argue against this. I don't typically use auto-pause features at all (I leave everyone else on tactics and only control what the game forces me to, thereby paying close attention to the one character), but any feature that deepens the tactical system I can probably say I'm for.
