I think they've got the right idea. EgoRaptor's Sequelitis video on Legend of Zelda covered something similar on the Pick-Your-Own-Dungeon style of the original that got lost over time - Link To The Past and many beyond feel more like a guided tour.

The Open-World looks nice, and destructible environments sound great. As Aonuma pointed out, it's Zelda's take on Skyrim. I'll be keeping my eye on it.

I'm not on a vendetta, I swear, (I literally just posted the same basic thing in the Witcher thread), but when they announced it was very open world a part of me died inside.

Granted Koizumi hasn't really been part of the franchise for awhile now, but I can still play Link to the past today because of the fiery embers of his storytelling. Open world means more cows to rescue or lumber to mill, less mythological conflict between dark and light.

You should get a 3DS and get A Link Between Worlds, don't fret about the art-style and play the game. It's amazing!

It's Zelda, so I'll be getting it. It'd be interesting to see if it came out next year - I'm still expecting MM3D to release first. No later than 2016, though, as Ninty's been nicely keeping pace with a TLOZ title annually for a while now.

First up's Hyrule Warriors next month, though. I'm kinda excited to get some time with that.

I'm not worried about the art style.  When Windwaker first came out on Gamecube people bashed the game for it's animated style but now it's getting praised for it, especially with how well the game looks in it's Wii U HD port.

I'm excited for it. As someone who grew up with Nintendo and Nintendo consoles the Zelda franchise has played a very important part of my gaming life. The problem is that I wasn't impressed with Twilight Princess's tacked on Wii mote controls and I flat out hated Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks and Skyward Sword, I can't help but be skeptical about the future of this franchise. None the less i'ii probably end up buying it when it comes out, I can't deny the trailer looks gorgeous and it was probably the thing that excited me the most at this years E3.

I think the original Zelda is immensely overrated and most take its success out of context. You could play the dungeons in whichever order you feel fit but the difficulty scaling will feel horribly out of place and you find yourself dying more than exploring (Freaking wizzrobes, man). The power-ups that will make you die slightly less are a classic "Guide Dang it". Egoraptor should take his own advice about looking past nostalgia when it comes to that game in question.

I'm convinced they could make an excellent open world Zelda game, just not the same way the original handled it.

Hasn't been a great Zelda since Wind Waker and I don't particularly care for the open world nonsense -- It's not what Metal Gear needed and I don't feel it's what Zelda needs either. More excited for X if anything. Still need to get my hands on the first Xenoblade for the Wii.

Overrated:

Anything that is given too much credit and hype.

Taken from Urban Dictionary.

Sure, the game may take some inspiration from Skyrim, but alas, Skyrim took inspiration from Zelda.

Yes. Arin (Egoraptor) gave the game too much credit and hype  ^_^ Skyrim is easy as pie, so I wouldn't compare it to Zelda.

Yeah, well, most of the enemies are just practically impossible to kill, so I use modded weapons and duel wield Master Swords. I have two of them.

Yeah, pretty much.

EDITARIOATIONAIRE: MY EYES, THEY BURN.

Look up Link in Skyrim and you'll see what I mean.
