Static cage looks great!
Nice cc too.
I don't care where that spell is, arcane or primal etc im using that spell.
its a bit like submission net.....
agreed, I love lightning spells and this looks like a good one. I'm excited to see a multi functional lightning spell. It should work well with Knight Enchanter as well.

And since Water magic has been brought up in this thread:
Even though it's just a cutscene (a great one!) and most probably not a playable spell - now, wouldn't that be super sweet? ![]()
I love this. ![]()
So far, the Winter tree seems to be my favorite. Got a thing for Ice spells, hehe ![]()
But I'm pumped so far about many others we've seen (Static Cage looks awesome!!!).
And I'd love to see (maybe under Primal, along w/ Lightning?) a couple weather-based spells such as rain/tempest, fog... etc.

Based on the icons I think tempest is in. In the entropy tree there are three spells that look like lightning to me. One is chain lightning, one is static cage, and the third (which was also hotkeyed to Solas) looks like a cloud with a lightning bolt. I'm betting on that one being tempest, or at least something similar.
New magic skill tree?
I would add Music spells.
I love Bard skills from Aura Kingdom game.
Bioware, add harp weapon with song spells ![]()
I want to see more about spells. The new video from Gamescom showed us some that I want to use them.

Ah, that's cool!
Thxs
Now, if only they added a water (rain!) effect; perhaps making the ground slippery (a la DA:O's Grease) as well, w/ the clouds, fog (inaccuracy?) too - in addition to, of course, all the Lightning action? Something like that? Would be so awesome!!! ^^
Did you guys enjoy the Storm of the Century combo in DA:O? One of my favorites. And probably the closest thing to, y'know, this more weather-type spell - as opposed to just electricity, or cold... & etc.
Hi IceQuinn ^^
I love Storm of the Century spell and I want this spell back.
I asked for this a time ago.
But, I don't know, maybe we won't see in DAI ![]()

Assuming I am seeing/interpreting it right in the video it is a mass paralysis spell with (much) cooler effects?
While I doubt we will get storm of the century back, I am hoping for more crowd control (stun, wind blasts, rain, etc) in tempest. I am also excited about the new combo called discharge that was demonstrated for lightning spells. It looks a lot like a powered up electrical burst from ME3.

I always wanted to try it, but I never got around to learning all the spells... ![]()
It would be nice if spell combos made a return, though... I tended to go with Entropic Death, Improved Drain, and Paralysis Explosion.
Yes. Mass paralysis with a real SHOCK to itAssuming I am seeing/interpreting it right in the video it is a mass paralysis spell with (much) cooler effects?
I TOTALLY would love to be a Windmancer
Wind scythe - Usual damage spell
Tornado - Area spell
Aeolus blessing - Wind Armor that deflect enemy projectiles
Something like this...

Yeah, Storm of the Century was defo a cool one. ![]()
Just thought, w/ the new engine and all, a spell such as Tempest, for example, could be given a little hoopla and some of that "storm-y" touch; rain, etc. Would certainly look very cool!!! ^^
Made this gif to celebrate the awesomeness of Static Cage with y'all: ![]()
@themageguy, love how you described it w/ elements of ME's Singularity and Submission Net, sounds right on; how its seem to sorta pull them in/stun/hold using electricity and they be like fish in a barrel you threw a toaster oven in. I. Die.
Simply cannot wait to try this beauty out:p

Haste might also work as a wind-based spell...
Actually, the cute little cloud farting a lightning bolt is a spell called 'Lightning Bolt', you can see it BRIEFLY during the boss fight in the latest demo.
And yeah, it appears to be a bit like Tempest only with a single bolt of lightning for enemies in the area, and they're stunned or something briefly.

Nope, it's called Static Cage. The dev running the demo calls it that. And this is the first time it was used. During the other demos chain lightning was used.

You'll notice at 1:31 when Solas casts Static Cage, the trigger button is held to access other spells that are NOT the little cloud and so forth; there's Fire Mine and Static Cage, which is 3 lightnign bolts arranged like prison bars.
Then, at 5:22 during the Hand of Korth fight, the player pauses just as Solas conjures up some lightning, and you can see the icon by his portrait with the name Lightning Bolt. It may UPGRADE to Tempest, but it's just Lightning Bolt according to the demo.

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought when you said "cute little cloud farting a lightning bolt" I thought you were describing the look of the Static Cage spell, not the icons lol. But yeah, I had realized the icon for static cage was the three lightning bolts, but didn't notice the name attached to the other spell. I'm hoping that is just an upgraded name for tempest, and not a single target spell. Back to static cage, I do find it interesting that its icon is orange (like entropy in da2), not purple like the other lightning spells. Since we know lightning and entropy have been combined, I wonder if this spell has a weakening effect in addition to the crowd control, maybe as an upgrade. I also didn't notice any damage being done by the spell. All of the damage indicators on those enemies were red or orange form the Inquisitor's fire sword.
Edit- Now that I look more closely I see what you are talking about. It seems to target a largeish area while aiming, but then once its cast it just looks like a single bolt hitting the enemy, not very tempest like at all, that is rather disappointing. Especially since this spell is further down the tree from chain lightning, I would expect it to be a more damaging AOE spell, not a single target nuke. Here's to hoping some of the other lightning/entropy spells will make up for it.

Yeah, I did see Lightning Bolt (though no clouds...unless out of frame?).
Also: I'm not saying they're bad, even Tempest in whatever form it may come - just saying it'd be nice to have that weather element, rain, etc; incorporated or expanded upon a couple these spells maybe possibly, if not in DA:I; future ones. And I haven't even seen what all the spells, let alone their upgraded versions look like in *this* game, so... for all I know ![]()
At any rate: very pleased with what I've seen so far, I must say.
Going. To. Be. Fun! ^^
Well, at 4:20, it looks like all of the enemies are stunned by the bolt, and the impressions from the demo in the twitter thread referred to it as a type of mass paralysis spell.
@IceQuinn: Oh, I agree about the engine. I was hoping for incredible bolts of lightning striking the ground and such, and we might still get that.
It does seem like most of the spells are more localized effects. We see that snow cloud chilling ability in the E3 demo, and its quite small too. Still cool, though.
I LOVE the visuals of the lightning, though, and it being purple is so much better-looking than DA2's lightning.
We're on a different continent this time around, I would expect changes to the use of magic. Just like now, we have Necromancy, whereas in the last two we didn't, culture and region is a big part of what skills and spells the populace has access to.
Solas' spells certainly look interesting. I say Solas' spells because we know he is a different sort of mage and has abilities other mages do not.
IMO, to avoid confusion and lore mess, they should rename trees like Entropy into something else, especially because they seem to combine entropy and lightning into one tree...
I want to see more mage Inquisitor spell tree and spells in action. Specifically speaking, support spells and this whole Focus thing. They only showed it once.
