After the suicide mission if you blew up the collector base and talk to Jacob, you get a line where he wishes he could see the Illusive man's face. Out of curiosity I took him to the final battle, and I got the exact same line from him. It's as if Bioware thought nobody would like him enough to use him after the first mission. Or is it a bug? Incidentally, Jacob isn't a bad squadmate for adept or sentinel Shepard who doesn't have an ammo bonus power as long as his barrier is specced out using LotSB.

I like Jacob.  He may be boring but if I had to go to war IRL, out of the group I would take someone like Jacob.  He would risk his life for his comrades.

Actually, I found Jacob paired with Miranda made a good team for my Engineer on some missions. The cool down on his Pull (9 seconds) synced up perfectly with the cool down on Miranda's Unstable Warp (9 seconds). I used him on Thane's recruitment quite successfully.

Jacob is an underrated squadmate in my view. He's a guy I would definitely trust over all the ME2 squadmates.

I like Jacob. In ME3, his lines seemed rather lame and phoned in, but in ME2, he was a pretty effective character to me.

I like to think that he's referring to Shepard's final conversation with him over the ship's QEC.

I would think the same, except Garrus and Tali knock him down to third. That said, on the Suicide Mission, he's always the one I bring for the push through the Collector Base, though Garrus and Miranda go with me for the final stretch to fight the human reaper.

The problem with Jacob for me is that he's just a little too vanilla, and the bits that do have the potential to become interesting (i.e. his time with the Corsairs, his decision to leave the Alliance) never get developed enough to form a cohesive whole. After the early missions, I was pretty sure that his arc would center around whatever incidents led to his frustrations with Alliance red tape, and his subsequent doubts about his current association with Cerberus, which would then be resolved one way or another during the course of his loyalty mission. Instead, we get this business about his father, which, in addition to being entirely unrelated to any of his previous character development, just made it seem like the writers tried to draw from the Freudian well one too many times. My two cents, anyways.

Unless you specced out of Overload and Incinerate, there should be no reason to remove Mordin from your Engineer's squad.

But yes, Miranda's Unstable Warp fits in very well with Jacob's Pull. Team Cerberus for the win I guess.

I don't understand your statement about Mordin being so useful for an engineer. Is it his extra powerful incineration blast? Or his cryo blast on fast cooldown?

Playing as femshep, I would avoid talking with him on the ship and I rarely used him on missions except his loyalty mission.

I felt Jacob was more boring than Kaidan... I mean.. he has NO background. o.O At least Kaidan has his "Point Zero" story with the evil turian and the cute girl.... But Jacob is all about his job on Alliance, his job on Cerberus, and his father. The only interesting thing is the story he had with Miranda where they saved the Council... Seriously that's pretty lame. And I was wondering why he was a teammate/LI. He had no chance against Garrus/Thane. o.O

His evolved Cryo Blast on fast cooldown.

Rank 4 Cryo Blast on Mordin has a base 4.5 second cooldown. Overload/Incinerate on the Engineer with the -20% cooldown at rank 4 of Tech Mastery (Demolisher or Mechanic) have cooldowns of 4.8 seconds.

With the Tech Cooldown upgrade, Mordin's Cryo Blast cooldown becomes 3.6 seconds, and Overload/Incinerate on the Engineer can get a 3.6 second cooldown.

This means the Engineer can Overload/Incinerate basic enemies, then immediately freeze them with Mordin's Cryo Blast. And then once your cooldown has finished, so has Mordin's.

Mordin's Cryo Blast is surprisingly useful. I never expected the cooldown to be so quick and once I did I sorta had to kick myself for not noticing it sooner.

I wonder if it's some sort of glitch and it's supposed to have the 9.00 second cooldown like the rest of the squadmate's abilities but the coding or whatever got mixed up with Shepard's version of the ability.

I like using Mordin's cryo blast, but I don't like the way enemies fall behind the cover once they are frozen. I prefer to bring two protection strippers suited for the particular level then blast the enemies with neural shock.

To be perfectly honest, some guy on here was talking about '1 of the 2 black guys in ME' when talking about Anderson, and all I could think was: 'who's the second???'

Which turned out to be Jacob, of course. But it's very striking how I forgot about the guy who's there after every single mission doing the debriefing.

Or this might be a testament of my complete lack of racism.

Going back to the original question I would say that it's not as much a bug as just a lack in oversight, or perhaps time. Not every piece of dialogue will have perfect tie-ins throughout the games. A similar thing happens with Legion when you bring him to the final fight, and he will suggest saving the Collector Base as it contains valuable data. But once you get back on the Normandy; Legion will question your decision, just like all the other squadmates have second thoughts about saving the base.

Jacob is a good guy, but lacks the proper amount of character development, as he is already nearly perfect from the very start:

Unlike Kaidan and Vega who both will talk about their past, Jacob basically says no to all that, doesn't want to talk about his past. It's been done and dealt with. Not beyond the tiny amount he will about his dad. He could've had lots of interesting stories about his time with the Corsairs, also his previous missions working for Cerberus, stopping batarian terrorists and whatnot.

I like that Jacob is the only character in ME2 who doesn't go all crybaby about his daddy issues. He just deals with it directly; no shits or excuses given. Which to me seems to fit with his background from the way his father was during Jacob's childhood: "You make a mistake, and you own it. Even if you keep doing it." I don't remember the exact wording, but it goes something like that.

Then there is Jack who will comment about Jacob saying that he doesn't know who he is. Which really turns out to be true, but you only really see it if you romance him. As he will tell Femshep lots of things in ME2, but then he is like a completely different character in ME3 who has finally found his place in life, and what he wants to do with it.

There is some depth to Jacob's character, the problem is that you have to really go digging for it to see it.

I know what you mean. I'm nearly finished my latest play through (me3) and if it wasn't for the "Cerberus Scientists" mission I would've forgot all about him.

Jacob is a good guy, but that's all he is. I decided to see if he would get any more interesting if I romanced him, but that really didn't happen. As for the thread topic I know what you are talking about, I brought Jacob and Miranda to the Human reaper monster and he got to see TIM but he said he wished he could see his face.

It may be a bug, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone thought no one would bring him on that mission.

Tali-Garrus Human Reaper Fight everytimes~

But yeah, it's sad for Jacob. Real problem I think is there was TOO many humans in this crew. Jack is awesome, Miranda is.. well Miranda :?  (I dun like her..) but she was interesting. Kasumi is cute and awesome too. And Zaeed is a kick ass.

Jacob had no chance... o.O
