I loved my Casteless Warden in DAO and kinda want my Inquisitor to have the brand as well. It could work if say we were brought out of Orzammar when we were a baby or something. Just hope I can have the brand...
So we know we are a surface Dwarf. But think we can still have the brand?

Catless? LOL funny typo (unless you really mean your Warden really was catless without Ser Pounce A-lot in Awakening
).
Yeah, I concur. It would be nice to have the option to have the brand on our dwarf character if we wanted it but nothing (as far as I know) has been said about this. At worst, we could just slap a tattoo onto our dwarf and pretend it's a brand if we wanted to...

Maybe? In the casteless origin, you can talk to that surface dwarf who comes in as a merchant, and he says he's required to wear the brand upon entering Orzammar, but he uses washable ink and simply considers the mark the license to set up shop in the commons.
It's not unheard of for dwarves from the surface to have it, but it's not part of their culture either.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the tattoo options available to Dwarves.

It would be a nice option, but it's also possible that Bioware has a family origin planned out for dwarven Inquisitors... kind of like how Trevelyan is always a noble by birth and Adaar is always a Vashoth.

Well we do. We know we are a Cadash who is a surface Dwarf. That will never change. But Bioware has said we can shape our background through conversation throughout the game. So maybe we can choose to say we are from a branch of the Cadash lineage that was made casteless at some point? Who knows just wishing out loud here.

I don't see how that eliminates the possibility of a pre-determined history for the bloodline. All I'm getting from that statement is that you can choose a background for your character. If they decide that the Cadash line is a merchant house and your family left when you were a child (or before you were born) to seek more lucrative business opportunities, that means no brand. You can still determine how you spent your childhood (probably).

Yeah I was agreeing with you.... And then stating that I hope that the level of choice we get will include saying our parents were casteless, or merchants, or farmers or whatever. if we get a choice like that I hope casteless is one. That's all.

They've said all races can have tattoos and that they're not the same. My guess is that we've been living on the surface our entire lives and were born to it. Surface Dwarves who were born on the surface don't get branded. If they return to Orzammar, say as merchants, they adopt a special paint that signifies them as being casteless for being a surface Dwarf... but it washes off.

lol... sorry, I thought you were saying something else. What you are proposing would be ideal, but considering the known restrictions on humans, elves, and qunari, it might be a long shot. Let's hope we're both wrong about that... I'm in favor of more roleplaying possibilities in a roleplaying game, not less. Multiple races are fine, but given the numerous backgrounds and dialogue options we had in DA:O, this seems... somewhat underwhelming.

Depending on how they present it, it could work. But maybe you'll be able to have castless brands even if it breaks the lore. Or you'll have the tattooes that the dwarf nobles could have in Origins.

I imagine at the most they'll allow us to shape what we did within our background like they'll give us a list of choices of what we did for a job within that background and probably how good of a relationship you had/have with your family.

I wasn't crazy about any of the facial tattoos in Origins with the exception of the Dwarven ones. I hope that those tattoos make a full comeback.

Wouldn't make much sense. The Cadash have been wiped out by their own city due to the fact they were protecting the elves. Any family wothout the brand had to be exiled way before and probably don't have the brand slapped on anyway.

Cadash Thaig was built upon the older settlement of Cad'halash, after the elves and dwarves were massacred.

Why not? The tattoos for the dwarfs could have the old styles and my be a couple of new ones because surface dwarfs could have their own style from the castles and nobles.

Me too. The Dwarven ones are so cool.
I think Sigrun has the most completely badass tattoo from the Legion. I'd love to give my Cadash a cool full face tattoo like that.
Also, scars. SCARS... ![]()

You've always been able to put tattoos on the face of the Warden, and even Hawke had that blood smear thing. I'm sure they'll put it in there.

There've been some hints that the dwarf inquisitor has carta connections, so I think it's likely.

It depends on whether the dwarves of House Cadash arrived on the surface recently or not? Even so, I liked the Dwarf Commoner having the brand, as it really set you apart from the other surface dwarves you encountered and was a permanent reminder that you rose up from nothing to become a hero.
