For me the "franchise fatigue" is mostly just burn out on the series as a whole. It was an interesting and fun game, but now I feel like there has been entirely too much of it due to the frequent releases. I was already feeling it after AC3, and the fact that Black Flag was so different in gameplay is likely why I was able to even get through it.

I'm sure that Unity wont be a bad game, but I still can't help but feel "meh" about the series for the time being.

Although the whole "We have 10 studios working on it" thing is potentially very concerning, depending on how that is set up.

They've been doing a bunch of studios for years. Revelations had 8 studios. Not sure about 3 or 4, but they were huge too. Ubi just makes it work.

Edit: AC 4 was 7 studios.

As for the fatigue, I do get where you're coming from--that's a different complaint than the "they don't iterate" which I don't agree with.

I'm actually at the opposite end of the spectrum from you--I found that AC 4 perfected the basic gameplay to the point where I wanted to do everything, for the first time in the series (I never did that flag bullskat in the past, or ole Benjie's Almanac pages), because the basic gameplay for it is so enjoyable. I'm at the point where all I need is more, not necessarily huge iteration (though, again, Unity looks to be doing absolutely fantastic things there).

The only thing that's really been burning me out about the series. Arn't the credit rolls getting nightmarishly long? I get why... but why all the same!

I skipped a bunch of the games after either the second one or Brothers. Came back to Black Flag and recently Liberation HD. I found both enjoyable. The games were so similar to the first two that despite my absence getting back into them was no effort.
What I found negative about them... Black Flag had some strange characters, like Flower Girl. Liberation's cast of characters almost completely baffled me, & I didn't understand their motivations or emotions most of the time. One thing that felt very off about the games was I didn't feel like I had any solid sense of time. It's like these games take place over years... But there's a real disconnect, that for me constantly nags away in the back of my mind.
Both games were intriguing though. Liberation was an experiment of I'd been interested in seeing for a long time, I'm glad someone tackled the development of a game with settings and issues of slavery like that. I really liked playing as her. And Black Flag let me channel Ishmael.

Hmmmmm..... The AC games are becoming more and more like COD and that's not a good thing. But Unity has sparked my interest in AC, I just hope it doesn't &@$! me in the ass when I buy it along side it with DA:I and Destiny. I want unique places like ancient Egypt or feudal Japan!

I'm looking forward to both of them. Unity goes back to a big city, while Rogue has some more naval gameplay.
I especially can't wait to see where the present day story goes.

And every time I see people claim Ubisoft is milking the series, the only thing that comes to mind is that it's a good thing I like milk.

I just hope they try new things with both games. I don't want Unity to just be a Revelations copy with more muskets and French accents, and I don't want Rogue to just be Black Flag with you playing as a Templar.

Given the clothing styles of both Egypt and Japan I find it almost laughable if we were able to go into "stealth".

Couldn't care less if an AC game is being published every year. If they are great, solid games that I enjoy, then keep them coming.

LOL, yeah. They're almost, if not already, thirty minutes long. It's getting ridiculous.

When you say new things, are you referring to gameplay or story/character?

Have you played the last few games? :P

Though to be honest they've done a good job with the rest of the outfit, keeping it relatively period-friendly.

They are adding new stealth mechanic which is nice, i just wish they would change the combat. It's boring, repetitive and too easy IMO. You think after 7 games they would change stuff like: block > counter > kill (rinse and repeat).

Well Unity is apparently removing counters altogether. Not sure about Rogue.

Yeah, Unity is supposedly a lot harder. They've said outright that if you're up against around five enemies, that you will straight-up lose (which is obviously not true, but it means there will be definite improvements).

So apparently Haytham is in this game.

Wasn't terribly interested before, but it might be worth a look now. Conflicted. :S

Here's more goodies. I don't know how to embed videos so you can do it prince.

Not only the one you have, but one of "river valley" too.

It looks like they added some of the mutiplayer components into the single-player to account for the "stalker" and general Assassin hunts.

I didn't like the naval video too much because it came across like a DLC for Black Flag instead of a true new game worthy of its own release. *shrugs*

Lets try this one-

I actually felt similarly--all the naval stuff seems fun enough but just Black Flag rebadged.

I think the Assassin stuff will be interesting (hopefully some of it will happen in actual towns, rather than just a gang settlement).

Eh. If the story is good I think it'll be alright. I mean playing as a Templar sounds pretty interesting and exploring a little bit more of Haytham's backstory could be cool too. I actually thought Haythem was an interesting character (but maybe that's because we had to play the first half AC3 with him) so I wouldn't mind seeing more of him. Maybe he recruits Shay he's betrayed? I'm pretty interested to see what part he plays in Rogue.

I was already interested in Rogue but now that I know Haytham is in it, that interest has doubled.

Did I hear the Rogue protagonist is Irish? Because that'd sell the game for me honestly.

Unity looks way better, in my opinion. The Assassin enemy looks nice, and the new guard abilities seem interesting too, but the naval combat is totally identical to Black Flag and the land combat still seems to be very easy, overall. Counter-kills are still in Rogue, which is strange to me, since Unity removed those. Even without the counter-kills though, I don't think I'd be interested in Rogue. It looks like Black Flag DLC (the protagonist even recycles most of Edward's animations) and not at all worth a full price.

"If it ain't broken, why fix it?"
Am I the only one that has a problem with Unity taking out counters? I mean, Arno must not be that talented of a fighter if he can't take on more than five guys at once. This is just one of the reasons why I'm looking forward to Rogue more than Unity.

Well to be fair, they had to make room for the surrender button, since the protagonist is French and all.

The whole point of being an Assassin is taking out your foes in smart, clever ways, since you're up against heavy odds. With counter-kills, you're an untouchable one-man-army.
