Hey all,

I was just thinking about what future plans Bioware might have for DAI, either going the DAO route and making a full expansion (DAA) or going the DA2 route and adding more story based DLC (Legacy, MotA). These aren't mutually exclusive options of course, DAO had some smaller DLC, but none that really tied into the overall story the way DA2's did.

So in that vein of thought, I was wondering whether people had a preference toward one way or the other. Opinions?

Here are my thoughts about the pros and cons of each.

Benefits of Expansions:

-More content all at once.

-Longer contiguous plotlines.

Detriments of Expansions:

-More Expensive.

-Longer Development Cycle.

Benefits of DLCs:

-Faster release cycle

-Cheaper

-Small contained stories for shorter play sessions

Detriments of DLCs:

-Generally less content/dollar than Expansions

I'm hoping we get both just like origins but all will depend on how well the over dlc does first and the game itself just like da 2 could end up scraping the expasion idea.

So here is hoping it does well and the mircosoft deal doesn't hurt dlc sales in the long run.

The days of Expansions are long gone.

At best we'll get overarching DLCs, though I heard decisions would be hard to implement that way.

DA2 did have plans for an expansion (The Exalted March), but Bioware wanted to move away from DA2 and onto DA3, so they cancelled the expansion and transferred some of that over into what became DAI. This was only 2-3 years ago, so at the very least 'long gone' is a bit of an exaggeration, and it is even possible Bioware will do a full sized expansion for DAI sometime after launch.

every DLC is technically an expansion since it 'expands' the amount of gameplay you would otherwise have in the game, but in terms of a full on expansion as in new campaign, yeah i would like something afterwards like dealing with some of the more politcal consequences of the storys conclusion after the game has finished

I like both if done well but i don’t like weapon and armour DLC’s as they should be free.

Technically every DLC is an expansion because it expands the content you have.
Technically every expansion is DLC because it is content you need to download.
Now that I'm done being pedantic, an awakening level expansion would be something that I would love. Not necessarily with a whole new cast mind you, but some new faces, possibly a storyline that runs parallel to inquisitions (stop Rivaini piracy for boosted profits or access to new land, repel a qunari strike force to get a cool keep and some bonuses, hear rumors about "dark spawn" monsters in the mountains somewhere, investigate and discover GODDAMN GRIPHONS!!! Bioware plz)

Well, DA2 did end at a cliffhanger so I could have seen an Expansion coming out for it. A shame as Hawke's story feels so incomplete...

Indeed, even though I didn't like DA2 so much I still think that an Expansion that was well made would have improved peoples disposition towards DA2, and would have given us some closure on Hawkes story (although hopefully DAI will fulfill this last part, somehow).

both.  I would like to see expansions but I don't know how feasible it is these days to make money off it unless they retool their business model like making the expansion more like a sequel but discounted and a standalone.

For me, this all depends on the quantity and the quality of the content in the base game.

I like the idea of both Expansion and DLC's for Dragon age inquisition though we won't really know what they would be at this time. I like how they had little DLC's from DAO like Leliana's Song, Warden's keep, Return to Ostagar, witch hunt, and The Golems of Amgarrak. Dragon age 2 dlc The Exiled Prince, The Black Emporium, Legacy, and Mark of the Assassin. I loved most of these DLC's and recently bought the Dark spawn chronicles. I Didn't really like the weapon DLC's.

Though we don't know much about the game right now i would love to see these kind of DLC's:

Small DLC's

- Skyhold/fort DLC expand on what they have (Raids, Trophies, Hidden room's/puzzles, History of previous games... etc)

- Able to revisit pre-game and previous game locations

- Massive Weapon's and Armor Pack not the mini ones if any Weapon's/Armor DLC

- I liked how in the weeks leading up to DA2 you could get special starting gear codes from following facebook, Trailers, etc. ( http://dragonage.bio...fo/bonus_items/ )

- going after some previous character or enemy

- Quests with old side characters or companions from the previous games and DLC's like Witch hunt, Mark of the Assassin, etc

-see the after effect's of The Golems of Amgarrak, Witch hunt, Legacy, Assassin,

-new companions (though they have enough of them right now from what ive read

Larger DLC's or expantions

- New Region/Regions The wilds, Antiva, The Tirashan, Tevinter Imperium, Rivain, Seheron, Orsimar and much more of the Deep Roads

- Start of a new Blight or event leading to the next game (probably one of the last DLC)

- Search for the Warden or Hawke or some event involving them

- Wardens/Darkspawn event (Finally find the last of the Griphons)

- New invaders from another continent or region

- Land Grab DLC or frontiers (base building and bigger fortress/Town)

- Effects from this games choices

- Play as a companion DLC (example Leliana's Song)

- Companion, group DLC (Like the Citadel DLC for ME3...)

there are many things and it's still very early to start thinking about DLC's but still i would love to have a few and even an expansion. (Sorry for any spelling and Grammar mistakes i made)

Ya A topic came up like this before and one of the Bioware Staff (Alan I think) stated that Expansion's and DLC are the same thing (Expansion being used for physical added content before the Internet became common and DLC used as a term now for any content acquired digitally).

We do have to remember that the main hindrance to DLC is size caps placed on the content by the console creators (On Console the Citadel DLC had to be released in two pieces to get around the size cap).  I'm not sure if there is a cap on PS4/XBox One but they are still there for the 360/PS3 so that may be a factor in development.

I rather have DLC added into the main game like Warden's Keep but with a lot more content along the lines of the citadel dlc than have an expansion like awakening again.

I'd like to see both. Though I'm leaning more towards expansion as I don't tend to buy dlc unless it is really worth it or has a lot to offer.

I'd like if it went with the Dragon Age: Origins way of doing it. Some story DLCs and a bigger expansion like Awakening.

Expansions. No question. Send the Inquisition to Nevarra or Rivain.

To quote the dude in Bioshock Infinite Burial at Sea, "why not have both?"

Bioshock-Infinite-Burial-at-Sea-Episode-

Origins had a solid expansion and a decent amount of DLC. I don't see why Bioware can't repeat the same feat.

It seems too soon to be discussing DLC, but since this is a pretty general question that could apply to any game, here's my order of preference:

1. No DLC. Ideally, I'd prefer work just started on a new game, since, patches aside, I'd prefer the development to shift immediately over to DA4.

2. Large expansion. Closest thing to a new game.

3. Stand-alone DLC, preferably with another PC (like Leliana's Song).

4. In-game DLC (eg. Warden's Keep). I very much dislike missing out on this content during a first playthrough and will avoid playing a game until all the in-game DLC has been released (did this most recently with ME3.)

5. Micro-DLC (weapon packs and the like). Feels cheap. The completionist in me is tempted, but I'd feel ripped off buying it. Still get a nagging feeling that I don't have something I want when I'm playing, which makes me enjoy the game less. This is the only type of DLC that I really wish didn't exist and would never purchase.

I'm hoping for one single ''big'' expansion like Awakening, that is worth the purchase...

The micro-DLC with items and useless stuff there will be, but I don't care ...(except for rare cases)

You can't nickel and dime people with an expansion the way you can with DLC. Thus, DLC is the way of the future.

Yes and no

I personally like a real expansion more - but I would of course love to get something to play while waiting for that ;) (but not 2 hour DLCs...I want longer ones...5 hours play-time should be the minimum amount IMHO...I mean a real expansion has what 20+ hours?)

greetings LAX

ps: I just hate paying more for more for a few times a few hours play-time each for DLCs while a real expansion might cost say 30-40 Euro while having 5 times the play-time....(if a DLC costs around 10 Euro where I live and offers say 4 hours of play-time, then I need to buy 5 DLCs to get a small "real" expansion and I need to pay more for the DLC than the expansion!)

The bigger expansions over the smaller add ons.
