Ah, well, since you ask...
Mine uses the overland map system, but only as an overseas map for traveling by boat. There are no wandering monsters or caches of goodies on it like in the original overland map, and only 4 locations on it. I could add those things and new locations to it in future expansions, if it seems like a good idea, and I could also add a new overland map for visiting new locations on the mainland. Currently travel on the mainland is done by checking out with the guard at the gate.
It's based in the FR setting, in that characters and descriptions refer to locations and dates in the Forgotten Realms, but the town itself is not canonical.
While I do want to make a new campaign in a different region, my current plan is to add small quest packs over time to this campaign, which players would preferably play through by loading a saved game from their previous play and picking up from there, rather than starting over. That'll give a use for certain quest rewards you receive late in the game.
Also, I know you ideally would have a true continuity and legacy with a level 10 character you built up yourself, but if you wanted to just jump into this one, you can take the option in the starting area to grant levels to yourself, anywhere from 7-12.
