Im hoping for attribute checks in the game. Like for example one for each stat atleast once in the game at important moments. One that requires tremendous strength, one for if you have a very high magic stat, one for dex, one for constitution (Drinking contest? :D) , one for willpower and one for cunning.

Anyone else hoping to see this?

Nah, not really.

Satisfied knowing the dialogue system will be quite complex and carry consequences with whatever choices are made.

Sure, if it makes sense.

ME2's paragon/renegade checks are an example of what I don't want to see.

Yes! One of the things I loved about Fallout: New Vegas was how your stats (and skills) could open up conversation options. Ex: there was some guy who wasn't doing what I wanted and I had a strength of 10 (max) and the dialogue option was "I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of my rippling muscles" which intimidated the guy lol. Love things like that ^_^

Yeah I think paragon/renegade is more likely or a version of it.  Attribute checks are more Fallout's style.  Although I do remember a few "cunning" checks.  Talking to the Scribe in the DAO Human Noble Origin for example.

Yes, I'd very much like to see this. I didn't like DAII's way of having a dominant tone to be able to perform special actions and I didn't like the coertion skill in Origins that you didn't have to sacrifice anything to pick.

The problem is however, that with the 3 attribute points per level and stats going so high, what's a reasonable number for a skill check? Attributes don't have a real meaning in dragon age, not as in d&d or fallout games.

I'd prefer if most of those checks were based on a set of non combat skills, so that every check doesn't have a class associated that is surely going to pass it.

Attribute checks would make sense if they weren't scaled so aggressively. They don't really describe character's prowess as much as serve as equip/unlock limiters.

I hope the opposite (don't like denied content, just because my character (mostly mages for me) isn't strong enough, doesn't have enough cunning or constitution :( - unless you can substitute companions for that :) )

greetings LAX

ps: I am satisfied if the dialogue system is as good as in DA:O and if there's little to no automatic dialogue (I hate that...) or paraphrasing (like that "nice" line with the fight being on earth in ME3...so stupid...my Sheppard's are not braindead idiots :( )...I like to KNOW (really KNOW, not guess!) what my character is going to say (hell, I would love to know the inflection which the character will use with a certain dialogue-option beforehand, too - because if I am going for nice and the character speaks aggressively, then I am mightily pissed off!)

P:T

Yeah, but everything in P:T was a wisdom check. There were a few times where CHA and DEX came in handy, but otherwise, all WIS all day. Also,

I've never found statistical checks to make sense in a game that had skills (like say D&D) when there should have been a skill that related to conversation. Take Strength. People say that a "stronger" looking character is, well, more intimidating. But an intimidation skill is what should govern that. I suppose if STR is a multiplier then it would matter instead of straightforward addition (which is usually what we use).

Torment was an interest take because it was one of the few games that wasn't intelligence heavy in terms of the statistical checks.

According to the devs, stat checks won't influence conversations, but your characters knowledge of certain factions and scenarios will. Ex: human noble has some knowledge of the Orlesian nobility and court behaviour, would be hella out of place in an alienage or Dalish camp. An apparently your character can gain this knowledge in-game based on interactions. I'm gonna go search for the interview.

It would be neat if it was like NWN1 where if your intellect was too low you couldn't even talk properly.

I'd rather games avoid these really offensive portrayals.

Yes, I like when in a rpg the ''statistics'' of your character really matter...

Seriously? A lack of knowledge, including the ability to speak, is not offensive.

Yeah being assumed I was retarded cause I didn't start speaking (other than grunts and really broken english) til around 4th grade was fun.

When it turned out I wasn't (after going through really expensive speech therapy cause god knows I wasn't getting the help I needed in public school) everyone but my grandmother acted all surprised -_-

Someone can have a speech impediment and be perfectly functional otherwise.

What world do you live in that lacking "intelligence" isn't seen as a negative thing?

Why do you think the word "dumb" is even an insult in the first place?

Just because a game is a "classic" doesn't mean it's immune from criticism.

A poster above me just talked about how they were bullied and lacked support in school because of their perceived intelligence deficiency due to having a speech impediment. Real people are affected by this mindset.

Which makes no difference at all to whether a game that impedes your character based on stats is offensive. You're weak, you can't lift stuff, your not very dexterous or cunning, I expect you to trip a lot and be kinda gullible, if you're unintelligent not being able to speak properly seems a fitting penalty.

Agreed. I always liked how it was handled in DAO. For example, your Warden needed a certain amount of strength for bullying NPCs to get information from them. Or your main character got one more dialogue option if s/he was smart enough to look through a dialogue partner. Such things. I really hope the attribute checks are back.

This isn't about a lack of knowledge. This is about an offensive stereotype. If someone actually had very low IQ, it would not look like the broken caveman speech we see with, say, Thog in Order of the Stick or that they had in, say, Fallout 1-2.
