Can you not do polls on this site?  Or am I just too stupid to figure out how to do it?  Editor options offers 2 choices.

Anyways title says it all.  I think  the only game I have ever used a horse on was Red Dead.  Any other game I just fast travel or run there killing every living thing on the way.  Elder scrolls games especially :P

Do you use them or do you plan to use them in DA: I?  Are you hoping for some type of mounted combat?

Used them somewhat in Skyrim, and plan on sim use for DAI. Current plans are to go on foot until banter and roads are cleared, then utilize mounts to speed travel after that.

* Uncertain, but Polls may be limited to Off Topic*

Getting on and off mounts in TES was a pain in the butt, and because I was more mobile on foot, I never used them.  In Oblivion you had Athletics and Acrobatics, plus custom magic spells that could give you lightning-speed.  In Skyrim, you had Ethereal Shout (w/e it was called... stopped playing that game long ago), sprinting, etc... you always missed out on things by staying on horseback, and the damn thing would always get in fights it couldn't possibly win.  There goes my 1000 gold.  <_<

The only good thing about mounts in Skyrim was that they let you fast travel while loaded down with loot.  Of course, if they hadn't removed the Feather spell, that wouldn't be an issue... anyway...

Red Dead Redemption on the other hand, made fantastic use of mounts.  Sure you still had to get off the horse to pick up prickly pears and skin animals, but the horses were much faster than Marston could ever hope to be.  The lassoing and shooting from horseback mechanics were fantastic... and if a horse died you had the option of just summoning a new one of the same breed (although I usually just walked back to civilization or tried to tame a wild horse due to roleplaying).  All in all, a great system... the best I've experienced probably.

As for DAI mounts?  Well, tbh nothing I've seen has me excited about them... I'm not a huge fan of the rest of the party disappearing when you get on one, but aside from that I don't have any other details to go on... I'll try to avoid them, most likely, and I doubt they will be particularly useful.

I find it depends on the game really. In the Elder Scrolls games, I usually avoided the standard mounts just because it was a hassle to have to go back and spend a bunch of gold on a new one if my mount died from falling a whole five feet off a boulder. In games like Red Dead and Darksiders, I always used the mounts for travelling about (and sometimes spreading mayhem.)

As for DA: I, I will probably use them, but how much depends on the mechanics around them, if they die easily and need to be replaced often (and are spendy,) I'll probably skip them unless necessary and walk most places. If they're indestructible gods, I'll probably use them quite a bit to travel, while still stopping and killing all the baddies along the way.

I've used it in other games when it's available and convenient. It's going to be different in DAI however because I don't want to miss out on banter, etc, so I'll probably walk everywhere. At least when first running through areas so I see if banters trigger then.

I will probably use mounts to some extent. Definitely when re-visiting old areas.

Depends on the game. I definitely used them in Skyrim because the world was too big otherwise. I do like exploring and finding things for myself on foot and I feel fast travel discourages the player from exploration. Will I use it in DAI? I don't know, maybe. It entirely depends on many factors. How big is the environments? How much can I fast travel? How much backtracking do I have to do? etc. etc.

Most likely Bioware designed it where you're going to want to use mounts at least sometimes. Mounts present a rather unique problem in DAI -- Banter. I could see myself getting tired of hearing the same banter across several areas but initially, I'm going to want to mount up as little as possible to hear them. I can see myself mounting up a lot more the second time through the game compared to the first time.

Hopefully the next DA is next-gen only and has less technical limitations so they can allow companions to mount up and we don't miss banter anymore. I'd imagine PS3/360's major memory limitations are the reason companions disappear on mount.

I used them a bit in Skyrim, but I've never been a huge fan of having any form of companion in Bethesda games because their AI is always dumb as a rock and they either get in the way of my own attacks or just run off never to be seen again.

There's also the mounts in the Assassin's Creed series which are better at stealth than the damned assassins are that I used for getting around a little bit.

I also use them a good amount in most MMOs.

Not sure if I'll use them in Inquisition or not. Mostly depends on how they're implemented.

Depends on three things.

Speed. Do I need to go to places alot, or is there alot of distance to cover otherwise? Also will being attacked on horseback be a problem?

Interactivity. Will my Horse get mentioned at all, or is it just a 'Summon Horse' spell. I'd laugh if there was companion banter. (Why don't we get horses?) Will people comment if I ride in on a flaming dead horse, or a sparkling unicorn?

Features. Does my Horse do anything beside get me from A to B? There is seemingly fast-travel in the game, so I gotta wonder why I wouldn't go on foot and listen to banter. Will there be timed quests that need this steed?

So far from info revealed, it's looking like something I'd do once and never touch again.
---
If the mounts end up being relatively pointless though I'll be conflicted. For some it adds an element of roleplaying to their games, which people do like and do. But it feels like creating an entirely new mount-system should have some bang for it's buck. Otherwise they could've just invested that money elsewhere. (Although it's debatable if they're going to re-implement the mount system in DA4 and if this saves time and money, or if the mount system gets bad reception if they'll scrap the idea all together.)

In Oblivion, I kept the horse you get when you first rescue Martin.  In my head, I named him Whickers-For-Breakfast because the stableman was an argonian, and I figured the horse might have an argonian name.  I worked hard to keep him alive, and started calling him Mr. Whickers out of respect for the weird things he'd survived (via reloading, mostly :)  ).  Then I got the horse armor, and named him Sir Whickers.

No one really understood Sir Whickers except me.  Alas.

I'll likely use mounts in this game once I've done the initial exploration of an area, but it depends if I give them a pet name that sticks or not, and how much of a chore it is to dismount to fight.

I'm gonna use the mounts when appropriate. And I'm just gonna pretend like the companions are riding behind on their own mounts.

I've used them only where appropriate.

I'll either completely avoid mounts my first DA:I run or only use them if I'm revisiting an area several times and/or the banter is repetitive.  I feel like I'll be trying to change my party up frequently so the banter will be constantly changing.

No. In Skyrim I didn't use mounts for very long, I actually enjoy the massive size of open-world games, now using super fast mounts totally kills the atmosphere. And fast travel. Its like the Highway vs. country roads, the latter will be much slower but you'll be able to enjoy the landscapes, all the little details you'd otherwise miss and the way becomes the goal.

HOWEVER, I will have to use mounts in case of timed events or quests.

I doubt I'll use mounts often in DA:I, they said before that you can miss conversations in certain areas. Need to make sure I hear everything I can.

I use mounts in MMORPGs (for example, in TERA), but in a vast game like Inquisition I don't think that I'll bother unless there's a map with a barren landscape that would take me 30 minutes to walk across. In such a case then yeah I guess that using a horse to gallop my way to point B faster would be useful.

But, otherwise, I will just walk or jug my exploration. If I was to use a mount most of the time I would always have that back thought in my mind "what if I missed the entrance of a hidden cave by the side of this road?". I'm sort of a completionist in a game like Inquisition (I was in Origins, in DA2, in ME1, ME2 and ME3, it won't change for Inquisition), so using a mount and missing on nooks and crannies because I galloped my way to the next town is a big no no in my book.

Only game I think I have EVER used a "mount" for was SWTOR.    Only then because of planets like Hoth and Tatooine.   Getting on and off also was near instaneous and because it was an MMO, there was almost no chance of accidentally missing something.

Even ESO which I played for the last 4 months, I never bothered buying a horse because it played much like a single player game.    If there is ever the slightest chance I might ride by something and miss it, then no..  I won't use a mount.

I plan on it. I'm not too excited for the feature but they seem to be hinting at a mountable wyvern. I wanna see my Male Qunari Rogue Inquistor riding a giant lizard.

I used them all the time in Skyrim, Shadowmere was a baws!  I also used them alot in Red Dead, however for DAI not so much if they are going to interfere with party banter, would rather go on foot then.

Exploration - in the sense of walking around pointlessly - is something I loathe. So I constantly use any and all features that make traversing distances as painless a process as possible, whether that means a mount or fast travel. Actually exploring the environment - that is to say searching for points of interest - is usually a non-existent part of games.
