Well you're probably right but many cousins still marry each other in eastern countries although not over and over. That said do you think it happens repeatedly in Tevinter? Why they do it? To make sure they have mage children?
For one it's an RPG, the classes have to be balanced.
And maybe mages just aren't that insanely powerful as you picture them.
The game tries to to do that yes, to balance the classes, outside of that however mages are powerful and are always beaten by outnumbering, nothing else. For example in almost all mage vs templars battles that we have saw, read or heard about mages almost always win the initial battle and the Templars call for reinforcements and outnumber them the 2nd time in which case sometimes the mages win, sometimes the Templars and sometimes the mages flee before all that happens.

Gameplay is a different thing, besides we play a circle mage, as opposed to a magister.
But again talking about power, it depends on what kind of power we are talking about. There are many magic schools out there, and one mage for example can be a very powerful healer but wouldn't be able to fight for crap, while the other might be a very powerful combatant while not being able to do much else, other than destroy things with magic.
If in Tevinter everything is based around raw power and duels ( aka sith ), then magisters should be killing machines.

Don't waste your time, it's impossible to argue with Kain, his opinions are extreme and weird and he's so utterly sure of them that no arguing in the world can change a thing about them.
I've changed my mind on these forums countless times.

Title says it all, I think it would have been a good thing to have a mage advisor as well.
maybe thats going to be Morrigan's role in Inquisition.

More like, mages sit down and cry, or try to run away, or turn into an abomination, while the templars put a sword through their chest. Because they weren't taught to fight for crap, and are not ready to kill or die.

If Leliana goes so does Cullen for all new characters...
But I don't know the last mage that was an advisor had a talking parrot voiced by Gilfrod Godfrey... that was horrible.
Agreed, I wish we'd have all new characters as companions and advisors. If they absolutely had to have one person carry over I guess Cassandra would be fine since we saw barely any of her in DA2 and don't know her well like we do Varric, Leliana, and Cullen.

I'm honestly surprised you weren't aware of this but in DAO, Dagna specifically mentions the Ancient Magisters (back during the height of the Imperium) Kept complete records of every family that had ever produced a mage child.
It makes sense to breed into those, add in that Fenris repeated states that Magic is cultivated by the Magisters for generations in their clans and its pretty obvious that is what they are after.

Sure, probably to the even more extreme and ridiculous.

What mage could possibly compare to Corypheus that is not a PC?
This question seems rather silly, because the answer is rather simple: Flemeth.

What exactly is extreme and ridiculous about the current argument?

Now, Now play nice children!
o.o Let us argue over sensible subjects, like how it is obvious Magic is a curse to every man, woman and child in Thedas that is afflicted with it.

We don't even know if Flemeth is human though.

Well, the mages are frail and all they can do is summon demons and shoot a bit of magic.
Unlike mages, templars can be trained and will always outnumber them. Sure mages hold great potential power, but once a templar is in melee range the mage is done for, no matter how powerful.

-_-'' Hag.
I am of the belief that Flemeth is or rather was at a point in time, Human.
But considering whom this is in discussion of, Bioware is likely to never give concrete answers on it.

...maybe...after all we beat her. Or that might have been part (and part of her power). Or just a test ofcourse...
...anyway I dont think you have to be best of the best mage to be magister in Tevinter. He or she can simply be cunning enought to make his/her disadvantages advantages or be very charismatic etc...

We don't even know if Flemeth is human though.
Technically, we don't know if Corypheus is human either... But both can use magic.
And I'd put my money on the one that can turn into a dragon and duplicate herself, rather than the one that can affect the minds of the tainted.

Yes, it's unrelated, but you're stubborn as hell in any argument and those were some of the extreme cases.
