Me too, a new mage character as advisor instead of Leliana.
If Leliana goes so does Cullen for all new characters...
But I don't know the last mage that was an advisor had a talking parrot voiced by Gilfrod Godfrey... that was horrible.

I wish i had neutral advisors instead pro-mages , pro-circles , pro-chantry , pro-templars... unless i can get rid off them and replace them in game sadly this isn't in case for now.
It is Military, each faction will give it's own strategy
All these people say why why why is annoying.
Because this mage advisor could actually give advice about the things going on in Thedas right now that has to do with magic, the tear, fighting mages, blood magic etc... Even Anders was resourceful when it came to these things, imagine what a real advisor could tell us.
Hence why they serve better as a consultant rather than leading a branch of the Inquisition.
@Lulupad: But that's not the function of the Advisors in the game.
My point is that ANY of the mages can offer advice about the Breach.
The Advisors offer advice on governance.
You're leading a faction... not just running around as an independent adventurer.

The tear was made by ancient magic, no current mage we know could figure out how. Everything else can be done without a mage advisor
Either you're wrong or the wiki is spewing nonsense again because that's how its written there. Strategy not military.
Or neither is wrong since espionage and diplomacy can also give strategy
We have Solas as our Fade expert, Dorian could probably find out what kind of magic
Yes, but they are companions. We don't know if their recruitment will be mandatory (like the advisors') or not, or if they can't be kicked out by the player.

But as those "why why why" people stated; we have Solas as our fade expert.
I really don't see how a mage companion is a lesser expert on stuff than a mage advisor. Dorian knows things too and Vivienne can probably tell us alot about the mage/templar war.
The advisors are going to help us develop and carry out strategies for dealing with factions, assaulting strongholds, and equipping the army. A dedicated mage/arcane advisor doesn't really fit into that. It's basically the same as "military," except the character is a mage.

Tbh, a mage companion would be more effective with that stuff than an advisor

Don't forget we seem to have Morrigan. She was important enough to put up on the website with the companions and advisers. Maybe she serves as the permanent mage consultant.
Maybe/hopefully we will see alot of Morrigan and she will be our unofficial.arcane (and demon) advisor...
...oh and as for it being ancient magic: maybe Morrigan can answer such questions since she can know some things from Flameth?...or maybe from reading the black grimoare(?) that the Warden found.

Could be, but I don't think she is gonna stay at Skyhold.
Morrigan seems like someone who'll show up randomly at the right time

Inquisitor: "Oh no, we don't know how to deal with this kind of magic!"
*Morrigan appears out of nowhere.*
Morrigan: "Have no fear, cause Morrigan's here! With all new kinds of magic advice!"

That could explain a lot, actually. Her credentials are good (knows old magic, knows the Fade well, and is the best expert about the Eluvians we've met so far).
As if I would take advice from a robe. What could they counsel me on - proper wrist-slitting techniques?
The greatest irony in the game:
Templars wear robes too and possibly the combination of robe and plate armor is possibly the most ugly armor ever made history of games. (its used in other games too no just DA)
Not anymore they don't ![]()
Not anymore they don't
Good for them because its was really ugly like in a new level kind of fugly. ![]()

I think he meant it as a figure of speech.
