courtesy of the legacy dlc we know at least one was a tevinter magister.
also....
Anyone remember what old corypheus says? That the golden city was already dark when they arrived?
So they were offered power, corrupted by this darkness, and through them the taint was spread to thedas it would seem.
I wonder whoever it was behind that scheme is the big bad in inquisition or will it be a boss in a future game?
Looking forward to how this all plays out.

Im more interested in the talking darkspawn. Are they the original magisters of old? Descendants?

I think it's likely that darkspawn like Corypheus and the Architect are Magisters. Of course the Architect might have just forgotten, if he's been actually living in the world all these hundreds of years, so if he is or not may not even be something he realises. Obviously there are other sentient darkspawn created by Archie who were not Magisters, but they seemed to have relatively stunted intellectual growth.
I think we're all curious as to what was actually up with the Black City. Maybe it was always tainted, like some giant ball of taint someone sealed in the Fade. I mean it wouldn't be unusual for legends about a mysterious fade-city to spring up, about how it was golden and the seat of the maker and filled with untold wealth and glory (like El Dorado and other legendary cities in our own world). If something exists but nobody can reach it, it's natural that people would contact fantasies around it.
We may or may not find out what the Black City is, though. I assume we will (though it will be totally separate to any questions of whether the Maker is or is not real).

Wait?! they kill a character off in novel again? Oh come on!
It's a torture for us if he didn't reveal anything further than "one of our favorite characters is getting killed", and to be fair that character could be his favorite but not our favorite. I'm not the fan of the idea about killing companions off in the novel or any other media though.
Ok, there was a follow-up from that guy in the wiki forum and.....

"At least, that's what she thinks in the beginning..."
As a fan of the Grey Wardens, that line disturbs me.

I've searched what I could in the preview, and I even put Nathaniel's name in the search bar. Nothing came up.

I searched the word "the" and nothing came up lol, so I wouldn't trust the search function.

Huh. I thought the author specifically said that there were no characters from the game because she felt like she'd be stepping on the toes of someone else's work.

I KNEW IT! I doubt they'd just randomly kill off an Awakening character and never give them the chance for a first cameo.

He already had a cameo in DA2, so...I KNEW IT! I doubt they'd just randomly kill off an Awakening character and never give them the chance for a first cameo.

I also thought that. I would like to find that interview again, to be honest.

Not... exactly. I was given the chance to use a couple of them, but I feel a little weird writing a character that someone else created. I get too worried about using the wrong words in dialogue or making the character behave in ways that aren't right for that character's personality. Protecting the world's integrity is really important to me, and I have a very hard time doing justice to someone else's creation on that level.
So there are a couple of places where known characters and events are referred to or name-dropped, but you won't see any of them actually appear in speaking parts. That was my decision. I just didn't want to risk writing anything that wouldn't feel true to those characters.

I hope they don't die
,and if game characters die in other media, I seriously hope we get cutscenes of them in the games, not just a mention. That would make two I know of. Anywho, sounds like another book I should probably get at some point. ![]()
