As the OP is the one who introduced me to actually playing these, I've played
- Katawa Shoujo
- Ar Tonelico
- Hyperdimension Neptunia
Quite frankly, because of these games, I have bogged my log for games until February.
I've bought a PS3 and Vita to play these games.

In all seriousness KS should be played by all y'all, it's a nice experience.
Other than that,
I've had Sakura Spirit downloaded on Steam and yet to play that
Neptunia. Which Liam has made me spend alot of money on.
Dark Souls
Persona
and Kingdom Hearts
Not much of a JRPG or VN guy.

I tried out Katawa Shoujo awhile back, it was my first VN, I mostly was kind of confused although it seemed cute, I think mostly I just have no real experience with visual novels.
However, as to JRPGs this is the #1 thing to me, especially if you stretch the definition to include kind of more action-ish games that nonetheless have distinct JRPG characteristics. On that note, does anyone want to share on which to try next these are the ones I'm looking at playing.
Tales of Symphonia (As part of the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles)
Nier
Pandora's Tower
I'm kind of leaning towards Symphonia. Also which Hyperdimension Neptunia is the most fun? I feel like there are so many out I get confused at times.

I suggest Nier (mostly because it's the only one i've played) it has a gorgeous soundtrack
and an incredibly interesting plot. The gameplay is a bit eh but you will get used to it.
The best Neptunia game is victory imo.

Nier apparently is a part of the Drakengard series also if you decide you want some more of that, and a girl with a flower where her eye should be omgwtf

Drakengard is pretty cool. Weird as all **** though a bit like dark sousl's brand of weird with flying babies and stuff.

Incidentally. this thread reminded me that Xillia 2 is coming out in 11 days and still haven't gotten around to beating the first one. Should do that.

Xillia 2 looks great so far though I wish they would give us a better idea of what it's about though. There's some pocket watch thing and a magical transforming man but beyond that I know nothing.

Something about alternate timelines too -- It's probably quite similar to the first game.

I'm getting a very FF13-2 vibe from it. But that may just be due to how similar the first one was to FF13.

Thanks for the Katawa Shoujo mention, I just dl'd that and will start digging into it tonight (just finished an energy drink, so I'll probably be up for a few more hours)! It looks like it could have a great story. ![]()
I just picked up Toukiden for the Vita a couple days ago, with a recommendation from a friend who loves Monster Hunter. Its...seriously fun. Like a faster paced Monster Hunter with a ranged weapon I can actually use. xD
Still need to finish off Ar tonelico Qoga, so I can be ready for Ar noSurge next month.

I've played Swan Song a couple years ago and it was amazing, a really really great VN.
It's a shame most VNs doesn't get a proper english translation.
I've also played Katawa Shoujo, it was fun and cute.

Bioware is the only one whose put romance routes as Japanese always does. I wish now Jp notice that we want that kind of game to be released in Occident, as Deep blue sky & Pure white wings ! èoé

That would be kind of interesting if my girlfriend was the president. I have not played that game though.
Anyway, I actually somehow played Drakengard 3 before Nier, so I'm expecting the same kind of tone. The music was pretty interesting in D3 although Nier has some amazing stuff.
I found this with the composer talking about his style.

The tone is a bit different no where Nier as sexual but it is still very dark and somber. I prefer Nier honestly.

My gut instinct was that Nier looked more direct emotionally with more interesting side characters/world, but more screwy gameplay wise. Zero is/was/seems more interesting than Nier (the character) though.
I'm also just kind of making that up though because I haven't actually played Nier, either way, guess I'll probably see one way or another.
