Zero is a more interesting protagonist but Nier has a more interesting world and story overall. The gameplay sucks in both honestly. I wish square enix would give the guys a ****** budget.

Yeah... games are kind of like "How do you like your gray? Do you want some more gray? We got some scraggly gray here." Ooh how about this nice grainy wall of ochre?
All the same, I'd take at least D3 over dozens and dozens of highly polished AAA titles with 10x the budget. The story and character concepts outstrip whatever added value from the production values of a Call of Duty, or possibly even a Final Fantasy these days. (never played 13)
Except for that ***** rhythm game at the end, like. No, just no.

I'm currently playing "The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky" but I'm open to further suggestions, preferably on PC.

Ok, and hopefully it's ok but I want to put the list of less discussed but still pretty fun JRPG games from a variety of gens, with many I've probably forgotten.
Lufia 2
Super Mario RPG
Illusion of Gaia
Breath of Fire 2
Breath of Fire 3 (did not enjoy as much as 2, but still)
Threads of Fate
Saga Frontier
Saga Frontier II
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete (Pretty popular actually)
Lunar Eternal Blue (Another solid one)
Star Ocean 2: The Second Story
Suikoden 1 (People know about 2, but 1 was still quite fun IMO)
Chrono Cross ("It wasn't Chrono Trigger" doesn't mean it didn't have it's moments)
Wild Arms
Valkyrie Profile 1 (not sure how unknown at this point)
Valkyrie Profile 2 (Once again, the lambasted sequel that still was fairly entertaining)
Radiata Stories
Xenosaga I
Xenosaga III
Shadow Hearts: Covenant (The 1st one seemed cool too, not sure about the 3rd)
Suikoden 3 (Also, probably not as fun as 2 but still fun, starts off slow)
Odin Sphere
....
Phew, got that out of the system.

It's been awhile since I played any. Generally, I am not a fan of the dating sims type.

I only respect people who beat Demi-Fiend in DDS. GET ON IT PEOPLE.
Jokes aside, Atlus is without a doubt my favorite JRPG dev. There games are fun, challenging, well written and the soundtracks ![]()

I still need to play the SMT games. I've played persona but not the mainline ones yet. (they are on my wish list though)

Katawa Shoujo is easily the best VN that i'e to date experienced, it's surreal just how much i ended up liking it. It also did make me want to get around to play more VN which i intend to do at some point in a very near future. Will keep an eye out on this thread for other and maybe they might build on the awesome start that was KS

Eh, what's funny is most games with the SMT title are in fact not part of the mainline series. In Japan only SMT1,2,3,4, If , the first Devil Summoner and Strange Journey have that title. Everything else does not. Only NA/Europe does for marketing. Devil survivor, Soul hackers and Raidou games, DDS and Persona are all side series which like SMT are part of the Megami Tensei series(Atlus first series and what started everything)

Ah well that's interesting. I never knew that. Wait why is only the first devil summoner mainline and not the second?

No one knows, it's the same with If. If was in fact the predecessor to the Persona series, main character aside(who was in in the first Persona and Persona 2). ALot of what If did would be taken by the Persona series later ala high school environment, non-post apoplectic ect. Same with the devil summoner series(that like If also connects to the Persona series)
Both games that have the SMT tag eventually either spawned sequels that did not have it or connect more to another series(Persona)

That's weird but I guess such insanity is inevitably going to happen when a series has so many instalments. See assassins creed, final fantasy, metal gear Etcetera.

Another fun fact is Overclocked, Devil survivor enhanced port for 3DS was first released in North America, not Japan. Atlus is sometimes crazy.

As for JRPGs, I've got P3P, FFX, and a NG+ of P4G on my to do list. Currently playing Fire Emblem: Awakening, and I just found out that Digital Devil Saga is on PSN, so I might pick that up as well.
I've got a lot on my to do list...

I'm on chapter 14 or 15, and I'm playing as female Robin. I don't think I've ever spent so much time planning out relationships in a game before lol.

Yes indeed. And I agree, they are kinda great. Pretty much one man wrecking balls. I could probably clear most maps at the moment with Chrom, Avatar, and the 2 kids.
I like some visual novels, but it makes me feel like a pervert for playing one. You don't even want to discuss it with your anime enthusiast friends sometimes since a lot of it are filled with porn.
Yeah, H-scenes can be off putting if you are not playing the game for them, but for the most part they are can be skipped without losing much. When I played School Days, the h-scenes got a little ridiculous to sit through, so I skipped them after a while.
BTW, School Days is very meh imo, for anyone interested.

Depending on whether you want 2 super kids or 1 ultimate Morgan. Nah/male Robin gives the best Morgan while Chrom*Inigo/female Robin gives both an awesome Inigo and an even better Morgan than Chrom*Morgan. That's for optimization, but the game would be fine regardless, even on Lunatic, if you grind carefully.Married Chrom? Chrom as husband gives birth to the best two units in the game as female Morgan.
One thing though is to never pair Gregor with Olivia or Cordelia. Gregor is the best father for any kid, but his armthrift skill is too useful to use on those two since their kids would have them anyway.

If built right and with the right spouse, all the kid units are pretty much game breaking.

So I like my two super units.

I built an entire team of sorceror with lethality just to troll streetpass. lolIf built right and with the right spouse, all the kid units are pretty much game breaking.
I hope they don't have the kid system in the next game since it makes the older units all useless.

I like some of the deaths in the game though. The ending of the anime is a combined of the 2 bad endings from the game in which Seika stabs Makoto and Kotonaha cut Seika. They have a few more bad ends in it that can be pretty disturbing but I'm not gonna spoil it for you.I'm not really, but are all the scenarios as ridiculous as the anime?
