Also I randomly remembered this game the other day. I always thought it was pretty cool although I can understand people not liking it as much as the first one, it had some disappointing aspects. I wondered why I hadn't seen more about it but apparently it sold like 7,000 copies in NA/EU or something. It's PS2 era but very late in the cycle and the graphics are pretty solid IMO, etc.

I really should get around to playing F/SN...its just sitting there on my computer...

Anyone play Danganronpa 2?  Because it was killer (like the first one).

Started a new SMT IV playthrough to play along with a YouTuber I just found. I'm so glad his Minotaur encounter lived up to expectations because my initial encounter a year ago was pretty much the same.

SMT IV is so confusing to me (I haven't played it). Is it like a mainline persona game? A spin-off? I thought the main Persona games were like 1, 2, 3, and 4, and the spin-offs were Devil Survivor 1 and 2. Where is this separate line of Persona games that suddenly ended up at IV? I'm not saying it's bad or something but I just wasn't sure... what it... was.

The only thing more confusing is Kingdom Hearts as far as I can tell. I've given up trying to figure out which ones I've played and haven't played. It would take a full day to figure out whether I should get 2.5 remix.

I haven't played it, going back a few pages there's quite a bit of Danganropa 2 praise there though.

Persona, Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner, etc. are the spin off series. The Megami Tensei/Shin Megami Tensei stuff came first. So SMT IV is the fourth game in the main series. Their makeup tend to have more occult leanings compare to something like Persona dealing with psychology

Oh right PERSONA. I came to the 'shin megami tensei' series with shin megami tensei: persona 3, which I always thought was a pretty long winded title, but it does help to differentiate it from just Shin Megami Tensei IV.

Yeah I can understand the confusion there. That's actually only a western world naming convention. Shin Megami Tensei's name isn't attached to Persona in Japan so it's easier to get the differentiation between the two.

Because Atlus USA for a long time just slapped the SMT tag on everything it became confusing, but in Japan only SMT games got that title, Persona, Devil survivor, DDS ect do not have the title in Japan and thus are their own series in the MegaTen series.

In a nutshell. MetaTen series started off as an adaption to a book, then SMT1+2 where made then it just went from there. SMT Devil Summoner and SMT IF are what started the devil summoner and Persona series.DDS has some connections to Nocturne and Devil Survivor 1+2 are all stand alone. It's a little confusing but an easy way is to just look at the Japanese name(which you can easily find on the MegaTen wiki) If in Japan the game does not have the SMT tag, it is part of a spin off series, if it does have the tag it's part of the mainline games. The MegaTen series also exist in a multi universe called Amala so games happen in different timelines(an example of an continuing timeline would be the first devil summoner>IF>Soul Hackers>then the Persona series) That's because the first Devil Summoner took place in a timeline where you stopped the events that create SMT.

I love how SMT IV can be so troll. You can be on death's door after a battle and reinforcements will show up to finish you off.

That's interesting because that's how SMT IV seemed different from Persona, much more combat and game centric. I really should probably try it at some point.

Although I kind of also want to try Devil Survivor, as I feel that one has the chance to be the best out of all the SMT.

Devil survivor 1+2 are amazing games, they easily trump SMT IV and majority of MegaTen games. If you want to play Devil Survivor I suggest the enhanced port, Overclocked on the 3DS then wait for Break Record(DeSU 2s enhanced port) to come out next year.

That reminded me at one part in Nocturne where all the enemies I faced kept spamming stone the whole fight >.>

This thing seems kind of interesting

Freedom_Wars_cover.jpg

Some kind of dystopia setting or something, I'd never really heard of it but a bunch of people were getting very into it and it's only been out a short time.

Welp Nier is pretty swell so far. I I expected to like Grimoire Weiss based on the trailers and stuff, it's fun to have him (it?) around while questing and stuff.

It is a great if flawed game. Prepare to play through it multiple times to get the good ending. (or you can use youtube for the other endings if you're lazy like me)

Law route is for noobs.

Unless it's DeSU Overclocked. Then Law is based.

I actually wanted Neutral. I even made sure to check semi-regularly before making the choice that locks you in and I thought I was on the right track. Nope. It was either Law or Chaos. I actually had a Chaos route ready to finish but I ended up grinding (scouting, trading, and fundraising) my law path a few levels higher and decided to go with it instead. Again, f*ck that bald bastard. Even more so because he looks like a deformed baby in this game instead of an angelic demon. He's making me grind some more and I wanted to be done so I can start on my path to Neutral greatness.

SMT IV Luci is horrible. He's not master race  based Luci from SMTII, Nocturne or Overclocked.

I call him, Not-Luci.

Well, Lucifer's toast. A few close calls but I won out in the end after losing to his second form (which looks pretty badass) the first time. There's nothing like that sense of accomplishment after a tough boss battle. He was pissing me off near the end since he kept using his Kingly One skill to send my demons back into the stock. He knew he was about to die and didn't want Metatron kicking his ass. Feels good when the credits music kick in.
