Resonance of Fate's gameplay was neat in a lot of ways. I can say I liked it and what it was going for.

But goddamn if you even stop for like anything over a week you will forget how to play. Not really forget but suck I mean.

I was pretty good at it but I know if I went back to it right now I would suck hard at it. So if you play it and want to beat it make sure to play without any long breaks.

Right, Level-5 have developed a few games I want to try/ or need to play like Rogue Galaxy, Dragon Quest (still need to play) & the Ghibli tltle Ni no Kuni.

Speaking of Xenosaga. An HD Collection is a thing that might happen. The premise being heavily based around philosophy and writings of Nietzsche certainly intrigues me.

Rogue Galaxy is great though I don't remember much of it  I should probably give it a replay at some point. Dragon quest is like final fantasy's less pretentious brother. I like the ones i've played. Except 9 **** 9. Ni no kuni is another I wanted to like but sadly couldn't get into.

And finally there is Last Story made by Final Fantasy creator Sakaguchi so it's still up in the air since I'm not keen on Final Fantasy but Last Story might be good.

As of right now, I'll probably focus on beating Digital Devil Saga 2, then get Xeno, then Resonance etc.

Should write them all down, really.

Parasite Eve technically counts too but the first game still isn't on the European store I:

I bought 'my first visit to japan' or go go nippon or something like that.

I haven't played it. I just bought it because of the reviews were 10/10 on steam.

Oh well then I guess I get a chance to primp Xenosaga. Xenosaga is made by the same guy that did Xenogears and Xenoblade, so that's like 5 Xenos total.

Each one is slightly different. Xenosaga I is probably the best overall in terms of balance between gameplay, crazy storylines, music, etc. It was a lot of fun so props for that one.

Xenosaga II is very, very weird gameplay wise, has a worse OST, and yet despite all that I still managed to finish it and enjoy it for what it was, it's just not as easy to get into as Xenosaga I and III. One random battle took literally 110 minutes or something (ok maybe not), although that was mainly because I had skipped a lot of fights getting to that point.

Xenosaga III has the fastest and most balanced game, it is very complete feeling, and it also has a solid storyline that manages to conclude everything that was going on in a reasonable fashion considering it was originally planned to be 6 games.

Honestly all 3 are worth playing, IMO. Xenosaga I > III > II I think. TBH, Sometimes I think the Sagas > Blade... the earlier Xenos were very aggressive at exploring strange concepts and characters.

They all revolve around a lot of the same characters but Kos Mos is one of the main ones...

I guess the biggest barrier is that they are PS2 era but that doesn't really bother me that much personally as I still sometimes even desire to play PS1 era games. Also, I heard mixed things about the Last Story, I doubt it isn't at least somewhat fun though, and I personally have not played it.

Xenosaga is all on PS2 tho, need HD remake compilation tbh. (no, Japan-only I and II for DS does not count)

Anyone here heard of Agarest Zero? Discovered it recently and looks quite cool. Digging the artstyle and gameplay looks fun, and fan reviewers have stated that it has good characters and a good story.

It's on Steam for 20 bucks. Might get it.

Is Resonance of Fate fun enough in terms of the characters and stuff though also? I'm kind of looking at that one, but I don't know... seems kinda screwy.

Hey has anyone bothered with Lightning Returns? The game seemed more interesting than the predecessors. Pretty screwy universe though at the same time.

Renaissance of fate had cool combat I couldn't really get into the story though. Same with LR. Good combat horrendous story.

hahah renaissance of fate...

It seems like it has a few funny parts and stuff like that but it also just seems like some lazy gangster schtik or something.

This is kind of an annoying trend, the better games have worse characters and the worse games are the other way around. Well for consoles anyway.

Maybe I should play a Dragon Quest or something....

Edit: Wow or not the last DQ came out in 2009.

Maybe, it's really popular and it seems like it would be well-rounded.

The characters and style look pretty dorky though at the same time. If I just go for the "best" out of all of them this could potentially work. It looks like people really like 8.

Gosh what I really want is another Xenosaga, been nostalgia-ing that series for awhile now. Such a bummer that series never made it to 6 games... wish more people would have bought it way back when. Combat was pretty vigorous for turn based also.

I know Dragon Quest has some pretty stellar OSTs though, so that's a definite plus... the videos make it seem like a solid good old adventure game.

Some people discussed it some time ago the verdict was pretty meh.

Oh as a sidenote finally got through Ys I, it's really fun, although it's definitely not a traditional JRPG. Ys II is kind of more of the same but they changed a few things and it's still fun.

Also nice since it's available for PC.

Oh ****. People are talking about Xenosaga  <3

I became almost as obsessive with that series as I am with PMMM now.

It helps that the OST was made by the same person who did PMMM's OST. Both are freaking incredible and I still consider Yuki's work with that series to be some of the best gaming music ever made.

The switch from 6 to 3 games was a damned shame. I would have liked to have seen the series fleshed out more but I still love it to death even with all it's flaws.

Anyone ever wonder where the handle Isichar came from..?  It was based off of one of the E.S. mechs in that game (although they spell it a bit differently, like issachar)

Well mostly I'm just using any time it comes it up as an excuse to talk about it as much as possible, but yes, Xenosaga is pretty bomb

You know now that you mention it I remember Isichar as being one of the mechs kind of, I can't remember most of the names. I also remember Kos Mos just was a mech.

I was thinking it has some similarities to PMMM the other day, they're both have pretty optimistic/friendly people that are thrust into kind of horribly chaotic and debilitating situations. The whole Xeno series has all kinds of weird ideas that you find in anime, collective unconscious, Jungian/Nietzsche backdrop, etc.

Plus <spoilers> I really think there needs to be more recognition of Wilhelm, man was as crazy an antagonist as you can find. I mean really, he listened to Wagner non-stop and altered the flow of time, owned every corporation in existence, at least directly or by shadow control, was 6000 years old, and periodicially exploded the entire universe, and also led a religion in his own name through sheer manipulation.

Oh yeah... look at those eyes.

Well I'd say it's basically at least as crazy and different as Ar Tonelico, they're different in overall stye/structure, but I enjoyed them a lot.

Although if you care about OSTs (like in Tonelcio) I and III are much better than II, which has some random jazzy filler score thing going on that I didn't like at all.

Edit: Ok actually II has some of Yuki Kajiura.. in the cutscenes at least.

E.S. Issachar wasn't even one of the main characters ones so even within the stories lore it's a bit obscure so I wouldn't be surprised if you had any trouble remembering it, seeing as how I forgot even the names of some of the main characters E.S.'s

Mm it did explore a whole lot of concepts which were quite new to me at the time. It's sort of funny but this series is honestly what got me Nietzsche back in highschool :D

Completely agreed on Wilhlem. Both him and Chaos were some of my favorite characters in the series. To be honest though I found the majority of the characters incredibly engaging which is one of the series main draws. Every main character feels fleshed out and has a unique and interested character arc.

Ugh there was a character death at the very end which hit me hard. Tear jerking material right there >_>

Although yeah it's not Xenosaga without Kos Mos

*snip*

This series wouldn't have been what it was without her :P  She really was at the heart of it all I think

Part of it from me is nostalgia from before I ever really experienced much content with a lot of depth so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. I did really love the game when it came out though.
