Yes, I remember Nomura's Batman. Yikes.

That video pretty much sums up everything I dislike about square enix.

His Catwoman was a bit better.

Emphasis on a bit...
As it stands the only good ones they've put out in the variant art line is Supergirl and Wonder Woman.

And even then I can't tell you why Supergirl has a sword.
They need to stick with making Play arts Kai figures based on the games and movies. Looks alot better in the long run.
I can't say I like these tacky Japanese pseudo-futuristic-steam-punk-armours at all, even the Catwoman design -- Although that one at least looks like a cat.. somewhat. Darwyn Cooke's reimagining of the character was always my favorite, those steampunk-esque goggles, short dark hair, and the cat-suit has always been my favorite design. But anyway, JRPGs. To summarize. Square, in terms of character designs. You suck.
Dragon quest has good designs though. It's only KH and FF that's full retard.

To be fair -- That's Akira Toriyama's work though who isn't affiliated with Square.
EDIT: It is of course important to remember that not every game by Square has been designed by Nomura. The video also wanted to illustrate the point of what is wrong with Square "these days" -- Modern Square of course.

That's true. DQ and chrono trigger don't really count.

You reminded me that I need to play VIII, after I finish Devil Saga. There was also this other JRPG, I think it was Rogue Galaxy? Need to get that one too... so much to get and play, so little time.
Rogue galaxy is good. Though the plot and characters are, well the fact that I can't remember **** all about it is rarely a good sign. The gameplay was awesome though.

That's a shame, but if the gameplay holds up then that might be good enough. I'm looking for more JRPGs to play too -- I'll definitely get some for the 3DS (Nintendo has shown a bit more love than Sony or Micro in 2014 with a few games I need), but I was also thinking on the PS2 era, or even PS3; I might have missed out on some neat overlooked titles.

The gameplay as some interesting stuff in it. The crafting system was particularly interesting. Get Ar tonelico. I always suggest Ar tonelico.

Couldn't agree more.
Compare the Variant Superman to the one they put out for Man of Steel.

But to return to topic.
I still need to get back to playing Tales of Vesperia.

Definitely writing it down.

Love that game. Favorite Tales Games, it was one of those JRPGs that made me reconsider to get into the genre, and Yuri being the first Troy Baker character I liked a lot.
Tales of Vesperia had banter between the party members, which is something I always thought unique to BioWare and Obsidian -- It had chemistry between the character, and while the overall story itself might not necessarily be breathtaking, it is at least interesting -- Yuri isn't a-typical JRPG protagonist either which is as a result is gratifying.
Definitely writing it down.
While i'm here might as well nuke your free time. Odin sphere, Atelier series (apart from Arland) Disgaea (apart from 2), and Dark cloud 1 and 2 dark chronicle for 2 if you live in europe. And that's just PS2.
It's been good so far.
But with pretty much the whole Kingdom hearts series, Bayo 2, and such I still need to finish...
I'll get back to it soon enough.
I also heard some people in here talk about the Xenosaga -- Not sure if I should wait for a possible HD re-release. The creator has said he'd consider it, or if I should try to hunt them down indvidually, but their current price tags ranges between the cost of a small island nation each.
Having the New 3DS from Australia is neat though because that way I can play Xenoblade Chronicles without having to resort to the Nunchuck (or whatever it is called) on the Wii. But, who knows, I might get it for both.. D:

Disgaea is a game I know about -- How could I possibly forget about a JRPG where a character would make a joke about "horse dicks".
My BSN buddy, formerly known as SeekerSparrow has recommended me Dark Cloud and chronicle before so those are also up for consideration.
Shulks inclusion in Smash made me somewhat curious about Xenoblade.
I might pick it up if I ever have the chance.

I'm playing it now. I got it through uh moderately not legal means. If they ever release it on PSN or do a HD set i'll buy it though. Pretty good so far.

Bayonetta 2 -- Among the few Wii-U games that I also need.
I finished Kingdom Hearts Final Mix in the collection a while back. Xemnas is a ****... not necessarily because he's ridiculously hard, like say Sephiroth, but because he's a cheap ****, who likes using instant kill moves that are about as easy to dodge as incoming Nascars.. So I decided to be just as cheap and simply spam Sonic Blade, while Goofy would continously heal my MP. That's litterally how I beat him -- I am, however, proud of beating Sephiroth.
I couldn't finish Chains of Memories, because there's something very eerie about going from the fun gameplay of KH1 to 'cards' in Chains of Memories. I also wasn't big on the world designs of the game -- I get how they made sense in regards to the setting (Castle Oblivion, memories etc.) but it wasn't that engaging from a gameplay perspective. The worlds were derived into small square sized-rooms, where occasionally there'd be doors to hinder you from progressing until you manage to grind the right card from random Heartless.. Not that much fun. Also the characters I loved, like Axel, isn't quite as charismatic or deliciously likeable as he was in the Gameboy Advance version of that same game, or KH2, where there were more swear words, references to death and more epic lines from him.
I do want to play Birth By Sleep though -- Never managed to play it since I didn't even consider getting a PSP at the time.
Like I said. A lot of games to play.

Nice, be sure to let everyone know. I'm liking how the game is seemingly inspired by philosophy of Nietzsche, Kierkegaard -- That speaks promise for certain. In retrospect, I got the Persona from abroad as well -- I might be able to track them down for a reasonable price, along with Xenoblade & the Xenosaga games.
Anyway, with a lot of support then this HD Collection could be a thing according to the developer here.
Definitely writing it down.
Prepare, I've played the first 2 and started working on the 3rd the other day.
The save file for Ar Tonelico 2 went over 100 hours.
Fastest, most fun Turn-based combat I've seen. Then again, Hyperdimension Neptunia and Ar Tonelico are the only turn-based JRPGs I've played.
Liam, how's Fairy Fencer F treating you? I swear they just put that last F there to make it acronym-ed to FFF

Good. It's fun and the story is interesting so far it has potential to be great or to massively **** up though. A soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu certainly helps.
I think all the FF designs are pretty cool.... especially Lightning. Cindy (Cidney?) looks pretty cute to me. I feel like (well my) issue with modern square is the game portion has kind of fallen out completely. They're like really expensive anime or something almost. Really I just can't follow any opinion on FF realistically at this point because I feel like I've had a different opinion on basically every one that comes out than the common consensus and it's been that way as long as I can remember.
One thing about FF though is when people don't bother with any of the other JRPGs out there aside from FF. Suikoden. Star Ocean 2 were very nearly as much fun as the likes of FFIX but hardly anyone really played it, pretty much the same story for Xenogears, a bunch of other stuff, etc.. probably stuff I can't remember... Lunar Silver Star Story..
Anyway as far as games that are older, Suikoden 2 is basically one of those ones I always come back to, which they put out on PSN.
