So, any other recommendations for good JRPGs? I usually play western RPGs but due to a serious drought for the P3 I'm in dire need of a fix.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, Xenoblade Chronicles, Tales of Vesperia, Valkyria Chronicles, Dragon Quest VIII, Resonance of Fate, Nier

There are a massive amount of Atlus games too like Disgaea (which is actually more of a tactical RPG)

That's not an Atlus game.

These are all also incredibly good games. I haven't played a few of them yet though.

So there is a square enix survey.

I shall now proceed to spam them with asking for more TWEWY and Dragon quest.

Welp it's kind of more of an action rpg than a JRPG but it had more of a clear anime/JPRG influence in character design and stuff so welp I say, it's in here.

Yeah so Pandora's Tower was fun, it's got some kind of grinding mechanics at times but overall it's kind of diverse and interesting. I only got like one of the 6 endings but basically I had fun. It's nice to play something not so purely based on existing properties.

Majestic giffy thingy

Dragon Age is an action-RPG -- Valkyria Chronicles is a Japanese RPG with tactical combat. Are you gonna classify any JRPG with non-turn-based combat as non-JRPGs now? If that's case then a lot of JRPGs could be excluded from the title, with the most measly strawman arguments one could pull out. Sakaguchi, pointed to Chrono Trigger (an older example) featuring non-traditional combat that utilizes a balance between real time and turn-based, Sword of Mana as action based and recently The Last Story. Case in point. It's not how it works. The fine line between what makes a JRPG isn't that thin. The largest difference between western and Japanese, in fact, can basically be narrowed down to cultural. Although most people find it to be a fundamental difference. One is linear, usually with very intricate plots, the other relies more on free-roam with emphasis on the underlying game mechanics, system or rule-wise.

Let's not have a what makes an RPG an RPG argument. They always end badly up there with console wars, dub vs sub and any conversation about final fantasy.

I'd rather not have the discussion either but I'm not gonna let somebody casually dismiss Valkyria Chronicles as an action-RPG when it's simply not true. The argument in my case is that trying to frame and define what makes a JRPG is more or less meaningless, as I wanted to point in relations to say the link with Sakaguchi. That's all really.

Well I always saw it as a tactical jrpg. Like disgaea or final fantasy tactics but with a more hands on approach.

Its not technically thread relevant, but I just saw that funimation's doing an English dub of the Neptunia anime.

That'd be weird to watch. I can't use the english dub in game either, solely because I watched the anime first, which was naturally only in Japanese.

For some reason, I can never stand switching having seen a series in one version, good or no.  :P

I prefer the dub personally but that was what I started with. Both are really damn good though. I can't wait to see the anime dubbed.

Since their dub voices were the ones I heard first I'm also prefering the dub but that's entierly based on hearing those voices first and nothing else. Would've prefered the japanese if I had heard them first

I have no idea what you're on about now. Anyway, this discussion wouldn't even have happened if you simply had not indulged it. We'll end it with that if you wish.

Has anyone heard of Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines? I just bought it on a whim and I'm having an absolute blast with it. It's the first game I've played in ages that I'm losing sleep over just because of how addictive it is.

I plan on getting that at some point I just want to get through a bit of my backlog first. It looks really damn good though.

Played Xenoblade didn't care for it. However, I have never heard of the rest. I will be sure to look em up. Thank you for the suggestions.

Huh? Sorry i'm pretty new to visual novels right now. What's it about?

Kawakami City is famous for its strong dedication to its samurai ancestors. A strong fighting spirit is always valued and it's even an important factor in succeeding in school there.

Yamato, a second year student from Kawakami Highchool is always with his close friends (4 boys and 3 girls). They have known each other since they were young and have done loads of things together. They have many other friends, but this seven people is a close-knit group, they even have a secret base where they meet...

With the new semester, they welcome two girls into their group and shortly after things start to change..

Now I know that this doesn't sound very original but the thing about Majikoi is that it does a lot of things right.

-Yamato isn't your scared protagonist who is shy every time a girl approaches him

-Unlike most VN's the males in the cast are also very well done

I should also mention that Majikoi is a SOL/Romance VN. It's not the kind of VN were the MC is going to kill some people or where the MC goes to fight in space.

It does have a lot of "crazy stuff" and battles between characters but it's not meant to be taken seriously. I honestly think it is the best SOL VN there is right now.
