Oh 4 was definitely interesting and I do appreciate the fact that it hops back into the past so it gives us a bit more time with some of the... older cast. X3 A lot of folks dislike it a whole lot more than I did though and I'm still not entirely sure why to be honest. :S Maybe cause it was different and change is scary.
It's true! For years I've told people that if they want to bribe me into watching or playing things, just mention if it has anything remotely gothic horror, demons, vampires etc and I'll probably be all over it. I'm not exactly complicated. >____> The beastiaries are great too since each critter has its own little story and I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.
Neclord actually makes me giggle a bit cause back when I played Suikoden 1 for the first time, I *really* struggled with his fight (same with the zombie dragon boss) but all future replays it wasn't really all that bad cause I understood the mechanics a whole lot better. Having him come back in 2 and still be tied to Victor's story made me insanely happy cause self referential stuff is so much fun and the series as a whole has always been great for that (like with Georg first showing up in 2 and then getting his story proper in 5). Ahhh, I actually really want to replay 5 since it's been far too long.
Koudelka is wonderful! I mean it shows its age a bit and it is more of a strategy game compared to the later parts being proper RPGs but it definitely laid the groundwork down for the horror aspect of the series. Koudelka herself makes an appearance in SH1 and it's another case like with Suikoden where characters throughout the series will show up in later entries. Alice and Yuri's relationship is probablyyyy one of my all-time favorites and (not exactly spoilers since you've played Covenant) the fact that they went off the bad ending of 1 was something that for me worked all too well (the bad ending is emotionally devastating for me
) since 2's good ending makes working through 1 for the good ending make more sense in a way. I'm trying to be vague a bit just in case you do decide to go through it. :3 It kind of reminded me of Fatal Frame in that the whole series there thrives on running off the worst possible endings sometimes. X3
I hope that book made sense. A mix of fangirling and coffee not quite being in my system yet leads to far too much asfsaufghua.
Yay, now I just want to try both, they sound like a lot of fun.
And Fatal Frame also! Gosh so many games I missed that seemed like they had so much goin on, ah, just need to spend a whole weekend just playing them at some point.
Yeah Neclord was a challenge for me also, I mean, I thought I could win just by playing it like every other fight nope he made sure that didn't happen, the game could really stick it to you at times. In Suikoden 2 they gave you Sierra and Kahn and Victor's crazy speech haha oh that was a good one.
Speaking of endings I always appreciated the gradations in the Suikoden series, the good, sort of middle, and bad ending possibilities in Suikoden 2. I was also impressed they created an ending for that desertion option partway through the series, made everything a bit more engaging.
so yeah
ah nice to hear about this vastly undersung series, I bet Koudelka and SH1 are pretty cheap at this point so maybe I'll dive right in!
. Edit: Whoa actually not so much, but still not in like Suikoden 2 territory or something.
And your fan-gush makes perfect sense I can translate it well since I speak the same tongue haha.
