shouldn't be light saber; should be much more expansive/long-distance.

remember, each character can only pick one specialization.

rift mages tears holes in space, a correspondingly capable specialization should be essentially wielding a 20 ft long death ray.

unless, of course, the class' mainstay is the protective powers.

Arcane warrior wasnt really overpowered as most people think.

You had downsides (which were kinda heavy). The plus-sides, coupled with gear, stats and abilities specially designed for the ultrastrong auto-attacker AW made it very powerful, but it required a very distinct specialization.

In other words, saying that an AW was overpowered would be like saying crit/assassinate rogue in DA2 is overpowered. Or that a min/maxed glass-cannon mage is overpowered.

These are all good builds with strengths and weaknesses, the reason they work are customization and specialization when it comes to planning and building a character. If arcane warrior wasnt strong despite using attributes, gear, specific spells etc - all to make it work - then something would be wrong.

It would be great if you could upgrade the strength of the blade spell, so it could keep up with the real blades as well throughout the game. This of course being under the premise that this will be how it is.

If I were to guess it'd be that the KE still equips a staff but the conjured blades draw their damage type and value from the staff.

So a fire staff conjures fire swords, etc.

People say exactly that - the weaknesses are pretty minor in comparison to the incredible strengths, which other classes could not really even come near to touching. Any build that has overwhelming positives in return for (relatively) minor negatives and, similarly, outperforms the vast majority of other builds is, effectively, overpowered (relative to other builds, which is what people use that word to mean).

you don't need to cater to anything to effectively utilize arcane warrior specialization; just passively using the equipment, you become a tank that runs over student protesters.

in origins, cailan's arms set really helps with fatigue.  In awakening, considering the best runes are often glitched to be unusable or in short supply, the stacking fatigue rune becomes a highly viable choice for augmenting plates on mages.

the core concept of arcane warrior is that it offers the one thing that mages lack and allows them to outperform the default class within the game.

in terms of gameplay balance, arcane warrior and blood mage should've been awakening specializations.

I genuinely lol'd at this. AW had no real drawbacks. That was half the damn problem. In addition to being mechanically broken (i.e. the other half), the game offered you some mediocre slap of 15% extra fatigue and -5 spellpower at worst. Oooh, I lose 1 damage out of 50, whoop-de-frickin'-do. My DA2 assassin/duelist crit bow rogue had the same problem, being a glass cannon flawless diamond rail gun. DA2 at least made it possible to be killed, though, if you didn't know things the game didn't directly tell you. DA:O pretty much told you how to automatically win the game.

It was kind of boring to play an auto-attack AW, and kind of annoying to sheath your weapon to cast. That's... kind of a downside?

It's a bit like the Kensai/Mage combo from BG2 - it's very powerful in terms of what it does when you play it right, but it not everyone might want to play that way. That's the most damning thing you can say about an overpowered build.

I stand corrected.
