You're misunderstanding.
Bioware didn't ask anyone to do anything. Casey came up with the idea of a science-fiction series himself, and developed the first draft of the main storyline himself. He pitched it to his superiors, and they approved it to begin production.
Wow. I have a better feeling about the next ME game now that he's gone. If Walters is kicked to the curb as well, I think they might actually be able to rehabilitate the franchise after ME3's horrible ending.

Before my expectations for ME4 was in the negative numbers, like no matter what they did it was gonna be garbage in the end.
BUT now my opinion has been reset at 0.
Though, in my opinion there was a whole lot more wrong with ME3 than just the RGB endings.
No matter what you may think about ME3's ending ( I personally hated it) it is really sad to see him go. KOTOR is one of my fave games ever, and the ME trilogy is my favorite series full stop. Even with the occasional misstep in his final game, all the good work he did far outweighs that and I only hope the next ME can live up to Casey's legacy.
Mass Effect just wouldn't be the same without Hudson.
